Canucks fan here, I think this will be a close series. This is Vancouver’s first real playoff run in a while so they have no expectations to make it super far this year, especially with no Demko. The oilers however, are cup or bust mode. So if the oilers can overcome that pressure, I think they will likely win the series. It will be an exciting series either way! Good luck Oilers fans!
Weird to learn that this is just the third time these teams have met in the postseason and the first time in 32 years. That's longer than the duration that Sauron..I mean Bettman, has been deftly manipulating Canadian hockey fans to ensure an American franchise wins every single effing year for the last three decades. I honestly don't care for the man.
This series will come down to one thing. Goal tending. For both teams
So many people seem to think that every team is equivalent when quoting stats about games. Nashville played smothering defensive hockey and the Canucks matched, to beat their way through it eventually. The Canucks played a great structured defense as well. But I don't think they really like it as much as playing more open and offensively (and as much as the coaching staff like to see it.) The fact that they can play a more creative game against the Oilers and the Oilers do not have the defensive capability that Nashville has means that Vancouver is probably a little happier playing the Oilers at this point in time. I know we should all be afraid of McGod and everybody, but honestly individual players, as great as they can be, can't unilaterally overcome a system completely. And the Canucks have proven they can play a system that the Oliers frankly won't be able to match.
The Canucks all season have played low-event, smothering defensive hockey. They were 26th in shots on goal per game (28.4) but 6th in shots against per game (28.6). They play a passive 1-2-2 and give teams fits in the neutral zone and attack on transition/off the rush. The Oilers are also very good at limiting shots against at 28.1 per game (5th best). They just play a bit more aggressive and I expect things to open up just a bit.
@AHockey1993 Yes, they absolutely have learned to play defense for Rick Tocchet, but they are a team that is comfortable playing offense in a more open style if necessary. Their shots per game is very deceiving because they won a lot of games in the first thirty minutes and basically played bunker for the last half of the games and preserved their energy for very much of the season. I am not claiming they have as much offense as the Oilers, but I would say their defensive structure and goaltending collectively exceed what the Oilers are capable of. I think it will be a close series, but I think people are diminishing what the Canucks are capable of in quoting the stats for round one.
@@AHockey1993I think you're confusing LAs 1-2-2 clog up the middle of the ice with the Canucks aggressive 2-1-2. They finished first in the NHL in forecheck chances this season and have created the third-most attempts from the slot off that forecheck.
This series will probably come down to three key things: line match ups, PP/PK and goaltending. Whoever has 2 out of the 3 will most likely win the series.
@pwest001 LA played a 1-3-1, I was just going by what I saw against Nashville. It sure looked like a passive 1-2-2 from the Canucks but I could be mistaken! I'm sure Hockey Psychology has a breakdown on it lol
Both teams can score regardless of the system of play. Goaltending will play a larger role because of the increased offense.
This is going to be a great series no matter who wins, it's sad only one Canadian team will remain in the western conference. btw, you said Silovs name right the first time :) I think Nashville was a great opponents for the canucks, forcing to play a much slower game that ends up being low score games. Series is going to be a battle of the playstyles and definitely goalies.
It was actually correct the second time. Shee-law-vs
I'm looking forward to a great series. Go Canucks Go
Canucks in 6. They were the better team in the regular season and there is no reason to think any differently about this matchup now.
The Winnipeg jets agree with you as well 😭🙏
You seem to forget playoffs are NOT regular season games everything changes
@@nototyranny2719 Not really. Are you forgetting that both teams will play more physically, with more intensity, and tighten up defensively? So it's kind of moot. We'll see I suppose. It's just a prediction, there are no guarantees.
@@IusedtohaveausernameIliked for sure either way it's gonna be good hockey and I'm looking forward to it either way 1 Canadian team moves on
Don't forget, the canucks dispatched the best team over the last half of the season. A big bruising tough team with excellent defence and a killer goaltender. I also have to dis-agree with Vancouver being a shut down team. They don.t play the dreaded 131, in fact, finished in the top third in gf. The oilers, who just dispatched the equivalent of a soup-can, clearly looked way better, but i think this is going to be a fast exiting series, and neither the regular season series, nor the each team's previous series really give any real indications. Only because I'm extremely biased, I'm picking vancouver in 5, but it could easily go the other way. Good luck everyone and enjoy the show!
If you look at results/analytics, the Kings' 131 is more suffocating, but the Canucks' defensive structure gets similar results(the difference is they don't resort to preventing an opposing team from playing hockey to do it, but also consider that the Oilers are a team that's structured to take apart that same 131 defence). What I think is going to happen is it's gonna boil down to how well the Oilers' defence can limit Canuck's production. It's been stronger in the playoffs, but the team defence is about 30-40% more porous compared to how Nashville plays.
Vancouver's gonna rely on a more structured defence to limit chances, but if they take undisciplined penalties, it can sink them pretty dramatically. As hardnosed as Canucks play their defensive game this season, there's also not much of a nasty streak to them(Hughes getting crushed with hits), and how they respond to the frustrations might swing things a lot in this series(I don't think there's gonna be a build up towards dirty play, Hughes seems pretty intent on focusing on winning vs getting even),
With Demko out, I'm not entirely sure how well we can limit the goals(love Silovs, but as great as he played last series, the Oilers are a very different beast), so some of the quieter Canucks will have to find their offensive game to step things up. At best, Silovs maybe steals one game that should've gone the other way, but as much as I love the kid, I think we shouldn't be expecting him to perform to the level we expect from Demko. If he somehow makes a late series comeback and is in decent shape, I think Canucks have it in them to either win it in 7(unless they steal an early lead, I don't think stealing this series in 6 is possible even if somehow we get 85-90% Demko back by game 4-5).
Canucks maybe win 1 game in triple OT but we will see.
I'm loving the take from pretty much everyone " If you ignore that Vancouver beat the oilers every game this year.. oilers are probably better" LOL.
How did that work out for Winnipeg? They where 3-0 vs Avs
As a long time Vancouver Canucks fan I love that you're putting up the skate ⛸️😁
It's legit my favorite NHL logo. I need a black skate jersey! Haha
This ones tough to predict. Im predicting oilers in 6 but game 1 is huge in this series imo
Lifelong Canucks and BC resident here. I'm inclined to agree with your take on the series. Vancouver would have a decent chance with Demko, but expecting a similar performance from our #3 is very optimistic for sure. The Canucks could get some bounces and a little sympathy from the Hockey Gods, but if I'm betting, the Oilers have to be the favorite. Fingers crossed we get an exciting series!
This is going to be a hell of a series, not to mention a massive test. It'll definitely be up to the Oilers to prove to the Canucks that we're a better team than they think we are and that the playoffs are a whole different ballgame than the regular season. For us, defence and goaltending are going to be pivotal. Lack of both is what led to Vancouver whipping us easily at the beginning of the season. I hope we teach those cocky fans a lesson they'll never forget!
Great review
Oh this is gonna be good
Canucks fan here ... ignoring the first 3 head to heads when the Oilers were bad, the 4th surprised me. I was expecting the streaking Oil to steamroll the mediocre Canucks but that didn't happen. It reinforced my general notion that a top defense *usually* beats a top offence. Gonna go against the grain and say Canucks in 6, but it wouldn't surprise me if it ended up being the other way around
McDavid also didn't play in that final head to head, will be interested to see how both match up with a healthy full lineup! Good luck this series! =)
@@AHockey1993 Even if we lose, I'll cheer any Canadian team left standing!
@@AHockey1993demko didn't play that game also
It will be a good series for sure. The pace is going to pick up a ton from series 1 for both teams. I am gonna predict Oilers in 6, but only because they are a momentum based team, with playoff experience, and the stars (should they not get completely shut down by Vancouvers great defence) are known for finding a weakness and exploiting it.
Interestingly what will decide this series too is the Oilers defence. We know Vancouver will be solid, but the Oilers have only fairly recently been. I expect all but 1 game will be a 1 goal difference this series.
i was at that game and the Oilers did not "show up" for that game in my opinion. They had little intensity and no urgency.
Canucks fan. Good take! Love the idea of keeping things respectful between fanbases. I hope Canucks win but I think it's the Oiler's series to lose. The Oilers are a great team and I have no problem cheering for them when the Canucks aren't in it. Hope it's a good series!
As a Canucks fan this is a great analysis. I can't argue with any of it, however I'll take 'nucks in 7!
Looks like a great matchup. I think the teams are quite evenly matched, except for 2 standout areas: 1 - Oilers special team play is excellent right now and could very well be the difference. 2 - Goaltending. I favor the Canucks quite a bit here as all 3 of their goaltenders have proven they can hold the fort well. With their injury status not really known by the public, it looks like they need all of them right now. I'm picking the Canucks to win, but I don't see either team as a strong favorite. It really will come down to who's playing better (or luckier) game by game.
Canucks so deep it's pointless to hold your breath while they pull you under. we have played with out Demko , DeSmith and Pettersson.
Everyone's point is that Oilers havent beat the Canucks all season.
I say, the Jets also beat the Avs all season and looks what happened.
Keep telling yourself that.
The Jets? lol. who cares
I'm a Nucks fan I'll be the first to tell you the regular season means fuck all. We're a 2 to 1 underdog going into this series.
The Jets with the likely Vezina winning goalie.... Ya, they're just chumps. Lol.
@@RickL_was_here Goaltending and defense win in April. The Jets got neither. Colorado struggled also defending. Colorado will be golfing next.
Really depends on Demkos health for me. I do think the Oilers will pull through though
Let's go Canucks. Time to pull off the upset!
Is it an upset when the Canucks won 50 games and finished first in the Division? 🤔
@@AHockey1993 based on the first round and the Oilers playoff experience it's almost a guarantee that most "experts" will pick Oilers especially with our Vezina finalist goaltender out. Which is great for the Canucks. They do better in the underdog role anyway. Oilers are supposed to win this series but what if they don't?
@AHockey1993 Yes. Regular season means fuck all. Odds are based on what's happening right now. We're +220 Vegas odds. So technically, we are the underdogs. But we play the games for a reason. It'll be a good one. I have 1k on my team. Decent payout of $2,200.00 if we win. Bonus.
@@danielpatterson5189 that's very fair and valid! Although Silovs has looked and played amazing so far for Vancouver. Should be a fun series!
The stars are all aligned for the Canucks. Playing the Oilers is much better the Kings!
Canucks fan here to say sorry for beating you guys chin up there is always next year
All of us are trying to act like we know what will happen. I expect a lot of goals for both teams, but go nucks!
Why can’t they get the schedule up and right. I saw Thursday at 7:00. Now I see Wednesday at 7:00
As a Canucks fan I really liked your take on the series. So many Oilers fans think they got this in the bag, 4-5 game series based on the Canucks and Nashville series, but that was a completely different style of hockey, and the Canucks had 3 different starting goalies through the series. I think with a series win the Canucks are gonna have more confidence, and it will be tougher than you think for the Oilers. I am gonna stick with my Canucks in seven games as I expect there defensive structure to frustrate the Oilers and I feel like Petterson is gonna step up this series. Either way it should be a great.
As a Canucks fan .. oilers should beat us no pressure on us … they have the better players and they have the expectations to win withe those big players .. so I should see oilers win . No excuses
AS a Nucks fan..We don't claim you.
You’ve lost your nucks fan privileges.
Don’t need claiming I’m just being realistic man . Oilers with mcdavid should be winning every other year .. no excuses. I love being the underdogs.
Let’s go OIL!!!!! So excited for this!!!!
Canucks have no pressure going into this. Edmonton said this is their cup year. So Canucks will either lose and learn a lot from this series or win because the Oilers were too busy focusing on a Colorado Conference Final. Either way will be a fun series!
Biiiiig shocker. You have the oiler taking the series 😂. Im 2 minutes into this video making my comment.
I think I was fair with my analysis and reasoning tbh! Hope you enjoyed the rest of the video =)
The oilers jersey was a big giveaway
I don’t understand any of this overconfidence from Oilers fans. Everyone says the playoffs are a different animal but that doesn’t actually help the Oilers and actually benefits Vancouver, the better defensive team. I get Adin Hill in 2023 vibes from Silovs performance vs Nashville. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get swept just like in the regular season and yes I know I will be mocked but I’m setting my expectations at rock bottom.
Aiden Hill vibes? The same Aiden Hill the Oilers lit up and led against in every game? The Oilers problem against Vegas wasn't Hill, and it wasn't Vegas' defense, which is better than Vancouver's. The Oilers problem last year was closing out games and playing with the lead.
@@LARGO125 Edmonton struggles in round 3 were simple. They wore McDavid out with a large back end. I'm not sure Edmonton will score as easy. If they do its on to the next round. If they don't, the next round won't be on the ice.
Vancouver overconfident imo.
As great as Silovs has been, it's tough to see him not buckling under EDM's immense firepower in this series. I think with Demko the Canucks would win in 6/7, but with Silovs it seems more like a 5-6 Gamer for EDM. I home I can be proven wrong ;)
Demko was skating today and yesterday, so I think he’s likely to return for this series, even if it may not be for game 1. Regardless, I’m super excited for this matchup and think it will be the most entertaining in round 2!
I’ll take +220 thank you very much!
As a Oiler fan I can tell you is not going to be a sweep, the Canucks beat us all year. If the Oilers play like crap at.times they might get swept.

What do you think about beefiness? Canucks dont look like a grittier team than EDM. Can we out-check them and wear them down?
I think we absolutely can, we have a really good combination of size and skill that can really punish the Canucks in the corners and along the boards, just gotta make sure we stay disciplined.
@@AHockey1993 0-4?
@AHockey1993 Vancouver has more size. This is such a bias view.
The average height on EDM this season is 6'1 and average weight is 202 lbs. Vancouver's average height is 6'2 and average weight is 199 lbs. They both have a pretty good mix of size and skill

The oil have taken their defensive play to another level never seen before in franchise history
Wild matchup for Western Canadians...Great video and Analysis Austin!
I am a long time Canucks fan (Stan Smyl's rookie camp in Duncan in 1978 was the start of my fandom)
Oiler in 6 is what my brain says
I won't go through all the match up points but mention a potential strength and weakness for both teams a bit off the radar.
Oilers Strength: The surgical dismissal of the Kings...Oilers experience pays off
Oilers Weakness: Darnel Nurse for me always seems to have a big gaffe looming...bad pinch...ill advised coverage...these could lead directly to Canucks offence since he plays major minutes.
Canucks Strength: Goaltending depth would be easy so lets go with this...Canucks size and mobility of their 3-6 defensemen. Soucy and Zadorov have transformed the group. It is impossible to shut down McDavid but long reach and skating could go a long way
Canucks Weakness: Power Play has to get back to producing and keep pace with the Oilers epic PP. 5 on 5 scoring may be one Canucks strength
Have fun Oilers fans, I hope this series delivers for both fan bases
Excellent content Huuuugggeee Canuck Fan
Canucks fan here. Oilers in 6. Either way, I hope the winner wins the cup.
Don't be afraid to believe in our team
Canucks fan here - if Canucks get grade A goaltending and their stars play better, I think they have a chance and it will go 7 and a coin flip for who takes it. If Canucks stars dont rise up, oilers in 5-6
Go CANUCKS Go
Canucks fan here, I want the Canucks to win but likely it will be the Oilers in 7, but its the playoffs and you never know. If Vancouver takes too many penalties it will be an Oilers victory in short order.
Edit: Will be a fun series, good luck Oilers Fans!
Looking forward to this series.
But the Oilers have improved immensely. This series will be a war for sure,im calling the Oilers in 5…🫡
LETS GO OILERS!!! That aside, yes I agree it will entertaining.
You TRAITOR
Oilers fan here, I'm actually scared of the Canucks and they're literally my most hated team of all time... I think the Oilers will win on paper but the Canucks have that coin flip style
*waves at Austin* Forget about us? I saw you picked Nashville in that first round. Surprised? Hee hee. It'll be a great series and it'll be even tougher with Demko out. But if our guy Silovs keeps playing like he did tonight I think we have a good shot. Worse case scenario we won't make it easy on you. You're not going 50 percent on the pp and we aren't taking multiple bad penalties every game. If Pettersson wakes up I think the Oilers might be in trouble. Good luck may the best team win.
5on5 Canucks have 53.33% xGF% and Oilers have 47.91 xGF% so far in the playoffs.
I was providing all-situations xGF% in my video, but yes you are correct in that the 5v5 xGF does favor Vancouver!
The refs and league will absolute glaze mcd for his whining and Drai for his diving and cheap shots. It will be PP all game every game for edm unfortunately.
@@michaelpearson7441 most definitely. I think the league would rather McDavid in the WCF than Hughes.
Oilers in 4 and then beat Avs in 7
Nucks can win this series...hopefully, "Hot Potato" Petey actually shows up and plays. I'd give the Oilers a 70% chance to win the series with their superior forwards.
is demko playing? that makes a major impact
I doubt he will play this series, but it's not 100% confirmed yet
Silovs is enough
Looking forward to seeing Big Z smash Draisaitl and McDavid
The Canucks logo is the best in the NHL in my opinion.
Canucks in 6.
I am a canucks fan but Chicago logo is the best.
As a Canucks fan, I agree the Oilers match up very well against the Canucks. Watching what they did to the Kings makes me very uneasy.
Honestly, the best chance we have to win is to pound Mcdavid into less than 70% McJesus. Otherwise, those tight games will always be subject to great game breaking plays from Connor beating defenders and feeding to Hyman for the umpteenth time.
My prediction is that if Edmonton gets past Vancouver THey win the cup, But... I am picking Vancouver in 7
canucks fan here! would love my team to win but in all honesty id say oilers in 6, hopefully we can take them to 7 though!
I'm sorry but the #Canucks don't like to play a slow game! That was purely on Nashville eliminating our speed and it was so boring to watch even as a canucks fan! The canucks like to play good defense but with speed! Our transition game is our bread and butter
If the oilers win this series, im convinced theyll win the cup. This is the hardest possible matchup for the oilers. If demko doesnt come back and the oilers keep playing on that level id say oilers in 6. Game 1 is gonna be the most important one though. Id say the winner of game 1 could easily win the series
Vancouver has 0 pressure in this one which is what makes them dangerous . CANUCKS IN 7
and lest we forget some of those "goals against" the Oilers were fluky bounces that are rarely seen
I think "the playoffs are different" is just something the fans say when they are scared of a match-up in the playoffs. Teams don't magicly get better or worse in the post-season.
Winnipeg absolutely destroyed Colorado in the regular season, look how the playoffs turned out. Bruins dominated the Leafs in the regular season, and the series is going 7 games. Playoff results are usually MUCH different than the regular season matchups.
@AHockey1993 that series could have gone either way. Everyone knew that. There have been no surprises so far.
@cowboywayne35 I'm just providing evidence that the playoffs can be and are much different than the regular season between two teams going head to head =)
@AHockey1993 it's different for sure. But when you look at the teams you expect to win, win probably 90 percent of the time. There are toss up series like Dal/Vag or Bos/Tor and there are series like NYC/Was. Fans like to say "anything could happen, it's the playoffs" but that's far and few between.
Honestly, I have a bad feeling about this match-up. I think they match great. Against us, and I wouldn't count on demko being out all series.
Oilers are playing really well though and are a tough match-up for anyone.
Probably going to be a 7 gamer.
For me its 1. Canucks 2. Oilers as my faves
In the opposite but totally agree.
Vancouver in 5 or 6 ... when a team is in your head, there's nothing you can do ... I watched the Blackhawks smash Vancouver year after year in the playoffs when Van should have beat them on paper.

Canucks need a healthy Demko to return in this series, or simply pound Mcdavid out of his current form -and maybe both - if they want to be a real threat to win this series.
Canucks have undeclared injuries that hurt them - most notably Pettersson who has had recurring wrist problems this year that made him an almost non factor after an incredible first few months. This has hurt their special teams and fucked up their top line scoring chemistry that was so prominent in the first half of the season. That has made them less dangerous to be sure.
If neither of those things happen, then my money is on an Oilers win - perhaps in 6.
Guys “EXPERIENCED is the BEST TEACHER”. Yeah, Canucks is a good team and but, Oilers is a better team and more experienced team. Oilers is a Tough Team to beat…And most critics, hockey analysts they predicted that the Oilers who will the Cup this year 2024 . Mark my words guys…OILERS in 5 👍👏💪🇨🇦
Vancouver has been inconsistent. Thats their downfall. They need to play like the Leafs the past 2 games every night or they are going to lose. They are lucky and can score quick and a great come from behind team. They need to play a full 60+ mins of solid hockey or they are going to be out. If Petterson doesn't get going they will be out. JT can't do it on his own. Its a better serious for Hughes he has room to skate. All 4 lines must be pumping like before the All Star Break. Either way Edmonton another of my fav teams would be great against the Avs. We need to get Dallas out, Boston out. Hopefully Draisaitl isn't thinking of leaving and going to Boston that is just plain Dumb and Stupid. Go Leafs GO! Vancouver vs Rangers or Oilers Vs Rangers will be a good series.
OILERS in 5. GO OILERS GO BABY!

I’m loving how cocky so many Canuck fans are. Doesn’t take long on socials these days to see them inundating Oilers vids comment sections. The sound just like Flames fans two years ago, this is gonna be fun…
You know it's bad when Jets fans are telling Canucks fans to stop saying things about the regular season 😅😅

Oilers in 5 or 6 they won regular season but they have no playoff experience with this team now and the Oilers are going to deliver and going to show them
