    Yo, EMT guy.
I lived with grand mal seizures for 7 years. You guys have been the first thing I see when a seizure is over on many occasions.
I just want to thank all you first responders out there. You guys and gals are awesome.

Samme, 12 years of generalized epilepsy tonic clonic seizures. I had one hiking alone with my service dog (stupid decision but my dog found someone) and the fire department took me half way down the mountain on an ATV once I was conscious enough. Much respect for the fire fighters/emts/paramedics disturbingly underpaid. I've had too many interactions with them and the majority of the time I don't remember it, it's a badass gig wish I could do it.

@@mindybunny yeah she's technically not even a service dog either, she's a shelter dog that I tried to train as a service dog. She's seen a lot of my seizures but she honestly doesn't know how to do much she's mostly Shiba inu, they've got their own agenda. She is devote though, the reason I had a seizure was cause id taken a turn onto someone's personal trail and got lost so I started to panic. I'm guessing from her hunting DNA she's good at navigation and she wasn't lost so she managed to get back on trail and ran down to some people we'd passed on the way up who were working on the trail. They then followed her back up to me. It was amazing, definitely could have died from a fall when I tried to get back up if it wasn't for her. I'm always trying to get somewhere before I'm fully conscious and I was on this rock so I can only imagine the mess that would have resulted. At the very least I would have been even more confused with no way to contact help.

I recently fell on my longboard and ruptured my spleen. It was the worst pain I’ve ever felt, and I couldn’t breathe, but I refused to call 911 because I’m on Medicaid and I thought the ride to the hospital was gonna be like $5000 or something. So a lady who had seen me fall drove me to the hospital in her pick up. Because I didn’t come in the ambulance the hospital didn’t take my complaint seriously, they actually said that since I was talking that meant I could breathe fine. Meanwhile I was bleeding out internally and was told by a doctor who did the surgery later that I would’ve died if I had stayed at that hospital. My dad drove me to a better hospital, they did a CAT scan and found the internal bleeding, and then they rushed me to an even better hospital. South Bend Memorial Hospital saved my life, and the surgeon who did the operation was pretty furious that the first when I went to was just gonna let me die

@@rryase well I was intent on going in there myself as soon as I was able to stand up for an extended period of time again. But my dad said that the surgeon said he was going to personally deal with that hospital, and he was furious. And he’s a very respected surgeon in the area, so I’m guessing his actions will have a much greater consequence than mine. I’m also thinking about suing them because a girl I work with had a little brother who went to the same hospital for the exact same injury like either a month before a month after me. Same thing they ignored it, sent him home, and he almost died. The hospital is terrible and has a reputation for refusing to treat people. They act like they’re just some family doctors office that can’t really do anything for you, despite the fact that they are a full fledged emergency room, open 24/7 with ambulances and everything. Something’s just horribly wrong there

@@trapjohnson I could see and justify the ambulance ride costing money if the average wage in America was insanely good and household debt was at an all-time low while the stock market was soaring.
The problem with people like you is you only see economic units instead of human beings. The "everything has a price" mentality only works when the economy is booming and people are paid fair wages. Otherwise you are just defending a broken and corrupt system that is sucking the life out of people through their wallets. Such systems can be accurately described as debt slavery systems.
Again, I could agree with you that the ambulance ride and other medical care expenses should cost people money if earning money was as easy and profitable as it by all means should be considering our level of technology and social development. Instead it isn't, meaning that money is being siphoned somewhere else (but to where? And by whom? you might ask yourself, were you a thinking man). So if the government and other institutional powers are engaging in corruption or allowing our national wealth to be stolen from us, the least they must do is see to our health and well-being. It's law here in the US for everyone to have health insurance, too. That doesn't mean it covers anything without paying $10,000+ out of pocket first. (I have the best insurance in my area and we have to pay $4,000 before insurance even starts paying anything, and then once we hit $6,000, insurance covers a lot of things, but not hospital stays, ambulances, surgeries, or procedures. We pay 20-40% depending on if we're at an in-network hospital/company. And even 20% of $60,000 is $12,000, so it's still super expensive for even a single day in the hospital.

Seizures are no joke and until you see a loved one or a close friend have a grand-mal right in front of you, don’t do this. It’s disturbing and not much pisses me off but knowing that people fake them as much as they do makes me sick bro. I won’t forget that day. Thankfully it wasnt my first because she at least was somewhat prepared. I like to joke that the seizures are more stressful for the people around me than they are for me, cuz I'm not the one who has to witness it 😅 Ive never witnessed one myself, but my parents once caught video footage of me after i stopped seizing and as i was sort of "coming to" and it was super freaky to see because I was trying to talk, but what i was saying made no sense and i have no memory of it or what I was trying to say

And yea that was one of the first ones I seen my friend have but it was never that bad, and every time after that one, once he came to, you could tell he didn’t know what happened, where he was and why people were around him. Sadly my friend HATED the medics and having to call the ambulance (it’s too expensive for sure) but he would get pissed and then check himself out of the hospital AMA as soon as he was fully out of it. I panicked when I called an ambulance for him that time but he wasn’t mad at me, he was literally more worried because he heard how upset I was because it happened right in front of me and I was shaken up for the rest of the day and he spent that day trying to lift my spirits. It’s definitely sad to witness one especially if you are close with that person like a best friend or family member. I think that’s why I cried and even though I tried my hardest to stop the tears I could not help it, it was watching a friend almost die in front of me.

That's completely understandable. I work in the ER and they drive me up the wall because they take valuable resources from those who need them.
I promise you that real seizures stand out a mile. I suspect people fake them (& seeing fakers is a daily occurrence for EMTs, firefighters, police and ERs) because it's a serious enough condition that we will react to it like an emergency, but they don't have to actually stop breathing/hack off a limb/ etc. They stand out a *mile* though. Most have never seen a seizure, so it looks nothing like a real one. They also don't realise that we have to find out the cause... The sheer number that miraculously "wake up" and are completely lucid and full of energy when I stand next to them and describe the tests I'm ordering is always a good indicator. I'm sure I don't need to explain why to you, but please know that we really can tell the difference and will always do our utmost to make sure that the muppets never impact your care.

Definitely don't *ever* stop meds cold turkey - especially anti-seizure medications. It can be really dangerous. If that decision was made by the hospital, someone needs their backside handing to them...
Sorry to read about your shoulder. It's difficult to give any proper advice without seeing the injury, but were you ever given physio once the break had healed? Just thinking that it might be worth trying a heatpad on it and, if it makes a difference, then it'd definitely be worth getting hold of some physio exercises 👍 Dependent on how long ago it was, you might be getting a bit of arthritis in there, so supplements that support joint care might give you some relief and improve your range of movement. There isn't a huge amount of evidence out there, but a study a while ago suggested that glucosamine (a very common joint care supplement) can help those with epilepsy, so it might help you on both fronts.
Have you let anyone know about those auras? The fact that you said "sometimes those are just as bad" makes me think they're not stable (eg they come and go, and vary in strength). That could indicate that your medication needs tweaking, so it's definitely worth letting your physician know. Sometimes little changes can make a world of difference.
