Step 1) Active, mindful and loving Step 2) Where do I want to twist from? Thoracic etc? Use the thoracic spine, and if your lumbar joins great. 3) Can I bring more of a twist in to other areas? Am I always doing passive twists using my hands? Great tips!
To me what you describe as "active twist" is a miracle.. ..a twist that is not initiated from our legs and buttocks? How can this be? To me it's a fascinating question, and when I feel inside and allow myself to become aware of my inner workings... is it an activation of one of the buttocks? A push down onto one of the sit-bones, or a pull up of one side of the pelvis maybe? A combination of side-bending, flexion, and extension that is skilfully adjusted and funnelled into a rotational movement? And isn't it marvellous that nowadays, in this modern age, we are finally allowed to feel ourselves? To sense? To experience? Thank you for facilitating this little "meditation" you got me into! ❤️🙏
I love your reflections and explorations. I appreciate you sharing them here. So much beauty right inside of us, and that beauty is expanded when we tune and pay attention with curiosity and love... thank you for that!
Actually I don't get the point Of hip here If i am twist from thoracic spine the naturally lumbar will come in play and if lumbar came then our hip natural come for twist So it means we should allow our hip to twist? Pls clearing my doubt
Have always been told twisting should happen from the abdomen and move up, the chest and lastly the neck but what I infer from your video is to focus more on the chest (upper back) rotation than the abdomen...is that ryt ? I would really appreciate if you could clarify..
It depends on what your reasons are for doing a twist in yoga. But the biggest thing that informs twisting from the upper back is the anatomy of the spine. The lower back usually wants to be more of a stabilizer and the thoracic spine has a greater ability to rotate than the lumbar (low back), which is why I tend to teach twists with a focus on the upper back, to regain the natural mobility of the upper back, rather than the lower back doing it all. Most people benefit from twisting the upper back more as that improves mobility.
Very helpful and clear. Thank you.
great tipp, thank you!

Great explanation, without really any dogma. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! I try to make things fairly dogma free :)
