In these muddy conditions, narrower tyres can do the difference. The weight of the 4x4 is more concentrated on a smaller area which allows the tires to attack the ground instead of sliding on it
agreed, in real muddy clay conditions here in the UK most of the winch challenge guys go for a narrow tall tyre over a wide one, Simex Extreme trekkers are normally the favourite
Had to lose a bit of your usual smooth crawling style. What a place, like some primordial jungle. Expected to see one of the blokes carried off by a T.Rex! The Orkney can’t get much better can it?👍
there is some amazing rigs in Australia, but you really can't beat a Defender 90. short wheel base, good approach and departure angles and back to basics
If breaking a Nissan hub on a frictionless mud track, where there should not be much drive resistance on the drive-train, is not a clue to ditch those weak autohubs , then I don't know what is!
@@defender90orkney9 No, quite the opposite. The auto hubs are notorious for blowing apart with a heavy right boot. And blowing one on slippery mud proves my point. Tyres should slip in mud before anything mechanical is strained to the point of failure. However, one school of thought is that the weak hub acts like a fuse and will blow before something more serious like an axle of differential. Far easier to change a hub than a diff out in the scrub.
@@defender90orkney9 It's an auto hub. It would be locked in as soon as he pulled the 2/4 lever inside, that's how they function. Regardless if he manually got out and locked the hub with the wheel brace, the hub would still be locked automatically. They function automatically, but with the ability to be locked manually so as not to unlock such as when rolling back with foot on clutch. Lots of people do not understand how they work.
@@defender90orkney9 I too went the straight pipe route - great for the occasional weekender, but got sick of the noise when touring for long periods of time behind the wheel. Now have small resonator to take the "drone"out of the exhaust. Much better on the ears.
Orkneys exhaust is just 🤤🤤
I wish we had tracks like this in the UK, so jealous!
Beautiful trail

It just looks worse than it probably is

Gotta love Toolangi dinosaur mud, you'll be washing that out for months.
Those poor people! Round where I live, we've got tarmac roads 😏
Great video mate! Amazing place and such a nice Land Rover !
That ewx winch really showing its worth, so quick! 👍
Do they 37s make the mud more challenging due to the reduced wheel speed?
Donde es eso?, parece un lugar prehistórico
Nice drive
The one in the intro looks like it's been made for Minions :)
Bem massa, gosto muito de lama solta. A Land é do caralho. Parabéns.
Orkney you have done it again,Keep them coming, thank you

So... I have the long version of your rig, a 110 Defender. Time to share some track?
I have been hibernating for so long I’ve forgotten what a muddy track looks like. Next time out?
Over in Ballarat, only an hour from most of the good stuff in the west and a little more for the east,.
Orkney sounds different!
