Aunt Marge started the whole thing. If she hadn’t insulted Harry, she wouldn’t have been blown up.
It's not when she insulted Harry that he blew her up, it's when she insulted James and Lily that caused it.
She sure did!!! Insulting Harry! Talking about his parents. That was way out of line. She's an adult! MY Goodness!!! Talking about a 13 year old kid parents like that!!!! Aunt Marge deserved it!!!
I think insulting Harry's dad was actually how she started it: 2:00
Although Harry did lose his composure, still. Aunt Marge crossed two solid lines!
Harry got his mother fiery temper I would be like harry not be able to control my emotions harry wear his heart on his sleeve wat u see is wat u get
Vernon is pretty friendly in this scene, he doesn’t insult Harry in any way, it seems out of character for him. This might be done to make Marge look even worse.
And perhaps to make her sound more like Matilda's Agatha Trunchbull, albeit a light-toned version (more verbally abusive as you see in this film). Pam Ferris became notorious when she landed the role of Crunchem Hall's brutal headmistress. And I knew Trunchbull deserves a better lesson from Harry Potter himself even if she learned from Matilda.
I think Vernon knew Marge was gonna be a megacunt to Harry and was trying to lay off to keep Harry from blowing up and using his magic. Didn't work though lol
🤔I think it's the way Richard Griffiths' acting is more comedic (which don't get me wrong, I love how he portrays Vernon making him more hilarious) but yeah Vernon in the books was horrible.
Vernon is actually a good amount nicer in the movies than in the books, in the books Harry only gets dudleys second bedroom because of the fear they have for hogwarts and magic while in the movies they say Its out of "kindness of their hearts". While we don't know if that's true we are never given another explanation, and Vernon is also less violent and nasty in the movies.
@Jordan Henry Nope in the movies they say it's out of the kindness of their hearts, while in the book it's to store Harry's magic stuff.
I love how sarcastic Harry is: “Oh yeah I’ve been beaten loads of times” and he can’t even keep a straight face
That’s my favorite line from this scene!! 😂😂😂😂😂
It's even better in the book, because she notices how nonchalantly he says it, and replies they can't be beating him hard enough if he's so indifferent about it 😂
Daniel Radcliff is such a gifted actor
@@Dingle-God1987Do you think that was Marge calling for Harry to open the door for her outside cuz it sure sounded like her. People say it was Petunia but it sounded nothing like her.
I mean, he’s not wrong. Up until the later movies. Harry is the only one who has gotten wounded or injured.
I think Petunia was secretly happy about this whole scenario😂

2:29 Petunia's face when Marge talks about her sister. I never noticed it before. Such subtle but effective acting
I think it's a bit ironic that Aunt Petunia ended up being "nice enough" to let Harry speak for her sister.
@Ian Gardner It's one thing to trash about your sister but it's a completely different things when an 'outsider' does it. Much more offensive.
@Ian Gardner she called her a bitch
@Ian Gardner she admitted she was jealous of Lily.
@Ian Gardner That's irrelevant. By bringing blood into it, Marge is insulting not only Harry and Lily but also Lily's other blood relations, including Petunia.

Alfonso Cuaron was my favourite of the HP directors. This scene was perfectly adapted despite having to consilidate some of the dialogue for time constraints. I especially love the bit where he lets go! From the "don't you dare" and "SORRY" to Petunia flapping after Vernon and him screaming after Marge while she floats off and Dudley just carrying on eating in front of the TV. It really encapsulates everything you need to know about the Dursley characters in about 20 seconds.

2:30 Petunia's expression when Marge mentions Lily. Even after all this time, she loves her little sister. Which is not to say that her treatment of Harry is justified in any way, it's just these little details and choices on part of the actors that are so wonderful.
Petunia saw Harry played along with Marge when he was bullied, but when she started to insult his parents, she became visibly uncomfortable because she had the feeling that things will escalate.
Vernon also saw that Harry played along with Marge when she was insulting him, but when Marge started to mention Harry's parents, he tried to defuse the situation by sending Harry to bed.
But Marge insisted that Harry stays so she can finish her tirade, but ended up badly for her. Although, the Ministry of Magic modified her memory later and she no longer has any recollection of the incident.
My guess is that Vernon took Harry seriously when Harry said "I will behave if she does" which meant that there was a line that shouldn't have been crossed.
Leave Harry’s mother out of your mouth petunia!😡😡😡
This scene is classic! Vernon’s facial expression when Marge is starting to blow up. The neighbors dog barking as Marge is ascending into the sky. Petunia using her handkerchief to wave goodbye. Dudley randomly eating cake off his napkin. 😂😂
Thanks captain obvious 😄
@@JbB-bx5giyou’re welcome Sailor Joe 😂😂😂
All of that made for what I believe is the cutest scene in the entire film series. I keep coming back to this just for laughs. The scene after, however, makes me feel for Harry. He didn’t deserve to beaten with a cane, and he certainly didn’t deserve to lose his parents, let alone the way he did, only for someone to talk smack about them. No well-meaning person does. Whether real or fictional, it’s nice and satisfying to see an orphan stick up for his or her parents.
What bothers me is how Harry’s Aunt Petunia gonna sit there and allow her sister-in-law to bash and talk shit on her sister.. I don’t care if she didn’t like her, if she was jealous, or had a astrange relationship with Lily Potter.. that was still your blood/lil sister and no one should disrespect your family even after death. This scene showed how lil respect/ love she had for her own sister. Petunia was a coward.
You could see her feel uncomfortable though
She didn't like this situation.
You could already see on Petunia's face that she actually, deep down cared for Harry. It may have been subtle, but she definitely showed concern when Aunt Marge basically called her sister in law's sister (and Harry's mother) a b----, and also called Harry's father a drunk
@@legendarylikebot8465 It's actually hinted in the book that NOT even Petunia likes Marge either and only Vernon practically does.

@@jhibbitt2896In the fifth book he teaches Harry how to protect his mind. Because the use of that skill Voldemort never found out that Snape was a spy for the Order of the Phoenix.
I like how Petunia doesn't do anything. She could have helped, since the dog was attacking Vernon, but she did nothing to save the woman who insulted her sister.
I think it was stated in the books that Petunia actually never really liked Marge and only put up with her because of Vernon.
@@kenthuang436That’s not true she did like Marge. She just didn’t like how Marge insulted her sister. She was shocked in the book when Marge started blowing up and yelled "Marge!" in concern for her

4:27 Dudley unimpressed for our Aunt Marge and watching the tango in the TV is priceless.
Haha! Yeah Dudley didn’t give a shit 😂
Harry doesn’t even need a wand
Imagine him doing this to Voldemort
It's kinda weird, the books never mentions that wizards can do magic without a wand or well i'm listening an audiobook of the goblet of fire and i see the movie just skip a lot of things, damn they skip half book!
Anrho he did make the glass dissapear at the zoo tho, without a wand.
A wand is just a tool to channel magic not the source.
@@JohnSmith-bk9vp hmmm true, true... This explains how domestic elfs can use magic without a wand too
Anrho I think if most wizards tried and practice they all could do magic without wands it’s just harder and not as precise as a wand.
The fact that Vernon was actually trying to defuse the tension and keep Harry calm says two things. He knows Harry won’t hesitate to lash out if Marge pushes him too hard, and he knows how insensitive Marge can be to him. Even when he said “I think it’s time you went to bed.” He was trying to relieve Harry of her venomous words in a subtle way.
It's actually a very obvious way of having Vernon try to defuse the situation. I actually like it. Probably one of his better moments trying to be a parent to Harry. Definitely reminded me of my dad trying to de-escalate a situation.
Yeah even Vernon Dursley knows when there’s a line not too cross
Even though vernon wasn't the biggest fan of Harry but even he knew better to insult to Harry's parents
Even though Vernon is awful, he very much loves Petunia and knows how hurt she was/has been by her sister not being around and everything that transpired between them. Even in the first chapter of the first book, he tries to mention Lily to Petunia delicately. Everything he does is to protect his family, especially Petunia
Honestly, the Dursley’s in the movies weren’t nearly as bad as they were in the books. In the scene, you can clearly see how hurt Petunia was hearing Marge insult her sister.
I love that Vernon says sorry before letting go and leading marge into space
When Harry told Marge to shut up, Petunia was probably thinking "...yes Harry, you tell her. Nobody insults your mother and my sister but me."
Loved Vernon yelling for Marge and that after all that, Dudley is all like " whatever.time for TV"
And Petunia's just like "...Well, goodbye Marge, I guess..."
It's implied that Dudley and Petunia hated Marge. Petunia was beside herself that Marge's dog Ripper might ruin her floor and Dudley only put up with her because she gave him money.

@@thomaslombard8058 Yeah. too bad we didn't had that scene. I would love to see the confrontation between Vernon and Arthur and the sweet incident. But I suppose they cut that scene because they also cut Molly's disapproval of Fred and George's choice of career. (she was against the joke shop idea. She wanted Fred and George to work at the ministry.)
@@OctoliciaWould've loved to have seen it on screen. From the goblet and fire and onwards unfortunately so much had to be cut. I don't hold it against the movies of course. To include everything would need to entail a 10 part miniseries per book
It was Marge causing it tho, if she didn't talk shit about Harry's parents, it wouldn't happen
Aunt Marge is to blame. Had she simply kept her mouth shut about Harry's parents, her being turned into a balloon could've been easily avoided. However, she didn't and that was her fate.
Dudley (Harry Melling) has gone on to be an exceptional actor. He is incredible in “the Devil all the Time” alongside Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson. Couldn’t believe it was him.
4:20 Petunia actually waves her goodbye lol
I'm sure that Harry Didn't mean to.
"Well. Unfortunate. Oh well- ta-ta, Marjorie!"
@@bettyottman1718 Well, at least Harry found a way to shut her up.
She had it coming.
I was always so focused on Harry's reaction that I never thought to consider how Petunia felt hearing Marge call her dead sister a bitch right in front of her.
There is actually a deleted scene in the movies where Petunia grieves the loss of her sister
I always felt like she had been trying to cover it up the whole time because of Vernon and now that she had a family she didn't want to be connected with that wizard stuff. But I think deep down in her heart she knew that she actually loved Lily
This is probably the one and only time where Petunia actually approves of Harry’s magic. She may have DEEP resentment towards Lilly and Harry but she still cares about them, though she’ll never admit it. There’s a reason why she kept the blanket that Harry was wrapped in all those years ago.
You can tell that Petunia was very uncomfortable during this whole scene. Marge said some things that even Petunia considers to be unnecessarily harsh. Outright calling Lilly a bitch right in front of her was perhaps the last straw and may have even said something had it not been for Harry’s (justifiable) outburst.
There is a very quick scene after the necklace breaks that shows Petunia’s face before switching to Dudley at 3:20. It looks like she is forcing herself not to laugh. You have to pause it really quickly when you see Petunia otherwise you will miss it because it is only shown for a millisecond. But it is there.
She wasnt intentionally though. A female dog is literally called a “bitch”. But i think they used that term on purpose to add injury.
@@dbuc4671 That's the point. The whole time, she was referring to Harry and his parents.

"You bring her back" 😁😃
2:37 I always adored this shot of him breathing heavily, the wind picking up, the lights flickering. It's scary. Even though he doesn't ultimately _mind_ what ends up happening to Marge, he doesn't truly have control over his magic here, which is frankly terrifying.
One of my favorite scenes in the whole film saga by the sheer amount of excellence displayed here:
-such DECADENT cinematography and visual look that marked the transition of the films from childlike wonder to mischief and whimsy. Not as dark as the others in a good and balanced way.
-Cuarón's ownership on the time motif of PoA - the cuckoo clock was the start of this visual cue in this particular scene; well-blocked placements of camera and actors - even ending it with a tableau just to cap off this ridiculous scene to a dramatic - a subtle touch of arthouse - finish
-John Williams' GENIUS to wrap up the entire sequence with a fucking waltz, enhanced by such tightly knit editing of Steven Weisberg to merge the music in such an organic sequence of clips. You can almost feel the rhythm of the editing if you mute the scene. So fucking good.
-And the energy of the ensemble.
Everyone did their part so well. This is a well-oiled cinematic moment.
“He would’ve went straight to an orphanage if he were dumped on my doorstep.”
I know this is meant to be an insult, but honestly I think that would be doing Harry a favour to spare him from having to live with the Dursleys' abuse.
Harry does think that in the book, but doesn't say it out loud because he wanted Vernon to sign the Hogsmeade formulary

I think Vernon's expression after 0:36 is kind showing how he realizes how they're all so unreasonably terrible to Harry. Vernon's sister doesn't even know much about Harry and she's insulting him off the bat, saying she wouldn't even take Harry in as a baby at her doorstep. After hearing it from someone else it seems like he's realizing all the things he's done to Harry, which would explain his similar expression in The Deathly Hollows when the Dursleys are leaving and Harry says "but im just a waste of space, isn't that right Vernon?"
another thing he was considering signing harry's permission slip to go to hogsmeade if he behaved and harry responded i will if she will, meaning as long as marge didn't say anything to provoke harry the night would have ended conflict free
Poor Harry, he even has the Trunchbull as an unrelated Aunt.

Don't say 'yes' in that un.grate.ful.way. it was good of my brother to keep you. He'd be straight to an orphanage if he was dumped on my doorstep!
Liana Soares 1:38
@@666tiger7 he meant 1:36 i think
Harrison Chan 0:29
Dudley casually watching TV the entire time, Petunia leaning back on the bench and tilting her head at 3:45, later on waving to Marge as she flies away - the chaos in this whole scene is hilarious!!
0:43 Awkward photo bombing, Vernon! 😂
That's Trunchbull from Matilda !!!
Pam Ferris
Daily Carolina really???
Why is she good at playing vile women?
Furthermore harry went full maltida to blow up aunt marge, cause he didn't even use his wand, anybody else notice the similarity?
She really let herself go. At least she didn't shot put Harry across the lawn
1:34 his face killed me xD
1:34 When harry starts to earn Vernon's "respect"
OH MY GOD LOOK AT HIS EYES! 😆
He's one second away from enlightenment! Or stroke, I'm not sure.
Vernon: 😳
Bakugou what are you doing here? 😳
Miss Trunchbull never learns. First she underestimates Matilda and now she insults Harry's parents. Big mistake!
By Harry telling her to shut up.
I love the beginning scenes with the Dursleys in the first 3 films, all three were always so memorable and funny. Snake at the Zoo, Dobby/the Flying Car and Inflatable Marge 😂❤
It’s so funny how Dudley’s pretty unfazed, just casually watching TV, until Marge’s buttons start popping into his eye 😂
An alternative:
Marge: I can insult your mum because you aren’t old enough to use magic outside of school!
Harry: What if I don’t need to? *SNAPE!*
*Severus apparates into the Dursleys' dinning room* : "You rang, Potter?"
@@LilyZerep "Yes, sir. That fat woman insulted my mother and called her a bitch!"
**Snape doesn't care*
Marge: **insults lily*
Snape: AVADA KEDABRA!
@@dragonrider1736 I think Snape would’ve given her a sectumsempra or whatever his spell was called
Actually, Snape over there would have made a breaking news on the muggles newspaper,
'WIZARD ENTERING THE DURSLEYS HOUSE IN NUMBER 4, PRIVATE DRIVE AND BRINGS UP AN "ON THE SPOT MURDER" CASE!' Lol.😂
Something that goes unnoticed, and this scene is Petunia’s mannerisms shows that she is horrified and disgusted by the way Marge speaks about her sister
She was uncomfortable only because Harry was in the room and knew that Harry will not tolerate it.
If he wasn't there I think Petunia wouldn't have minded. Besides, Petunia called her sister a "freak".
Vernon tried to defuse the situation but Marge wanted to finish her tirade.
1:34 I love that derpy look that Vernon has
1:35 lol look at Harry's uncle.
Mesias Hernandez the eyes.😆
Derp derp.
Mesias Hernandez I think I heard a bit of laughing
A meme
Is called Vernon
I think it's time you went to bed.
Quiet, Vernon.
You.
Clean it up.
He tried to save her
Vernon May push Harry around but at the end of the day, he’s well aware of what he is and what he can do if you really piss him off lol
I feel like even Vernon is realizing that Marge’s bullying of Harry is too much here - he asks Harry to leave so she won’t insult his parents in front of him
thecreatorofthedark but she didn’t listen. 😡😡😡
I love how Dudley doesn’t notice until the necklace bursts lol
Everything in this scene is utter perfection. Acting, effects, music, comedy, suspense, writing, etc. Its just one of those scenes that works from every angle.
this was a very satisfying scene...
finally standing up to the Dursleys
2:56 I love how Vernon looks like hes holding back his laughter
4:27 You can spot that Petunia is waving to Marge as if telling her: Goodbye ahahahaha
I laugh my ass off so hard every time Marge's buttons pop off and wacks Dudley in the face 😂 His reaction is so dramatic 💀
4:19 Imagine if Petunia was like: "Thanks for getting rid of the stupid git, Harry"
Lol
That would change their relationship in a drastic way, no doubt
At 2:28 you can tell Petunia didn’t like the way she speak about her sister. She may hate her for being a witch but she doesn’t like her husband sister. Plus she knew Harry gonna lose it
😂😂
@@Cadolots but she hated her sister
Harry’s so hot this year. I melted at his answer “ yes”...
Harry was at his best in order of the phoenix
Man I just LOVE how used to the magic Dudley is, he doesn't even care and keeps watching his tv show 😂
2:00 juding by the amount of gold in the family vault, Harry's father didn't even need to work.
I would have liked to have seen more of harry getting back at the dursleys
Trust me, you wouldn't. It would just be more pain and abuse if you ask me.
I wish we could have seen the Dursleys actually meeting Arthur, Fred, George and Ron Weasley like they did in the Goblet of Fire book. I would have loved to see it in the movie. I can only imagine how hilarious it would have been 😂😂😂
They made the Dursleys hilarious and likeableish in the movies compared to the books. They were horrible in the books 😐
That's the most hilarious scene. It was so funny how Petunia was waving goodbye to Marge. I noticed Petunia's look of concern for Harry when Marge spoke about Lily. Marge deserved what happened. She looks down and she realizes 'oh she's talking about my sister'. It looks like Petunia reaches out to touch Harry but she stops herself.
If you pause at 3:20 when Marge is still blowing up and breaking the chair. It honestly looks like Petunia is concentrating on holding in a laugh. Her mouth isn’t twitching like Lily’s did in OOTP book when James is bullying Severus. But she is more of forcing a laugh in. I could be wrong but that is what it looks like to me.
2:48 Vernon is like: Oh no, here goes the magic stuff
Mm-hmm.
If I were Harry, when aunt marge started to inflate, i would've said "So are gonna stop disrespecting me and my parents, or are we gonna play 'How many chins can Aunt Marge get'?"
I’m dying 😂😂😂
Yes
Charlotte Matthews I would have said when Marge was asking Vernon to do something, I would have said "Sorry Aunt Marge, I don't see a difference in your size.
C Tom HAHH!!😂😅😅👏
I would say "Having fun up there for what you did" Harry Potter 2020
