    Not only is Don my favourite SAFC player of all time, but my first Black hero as a child, as I'm sure he was to many others. If I ever met him I'd probably cry, that's how much I looked up to him as a kid. In an era when racism was rife in the NE, his presence did more to combat the racism in the area than he could possibly know. Every white mackem kid had a picture of big bad Don on their bedroom wall. He totally changed my outlook on life and my attitude towards people with a different skin tone than my own. Love him to bits, always will. The number 8 will always remind me of the legend that is Don Goodman.

    The Bradford City was & always be a bit of a forgotten tragedy. It never got the media attention it deserved. RIP the 56.

      Don't talk shite. It's had plenty of media attention over the years. Those watching football in those years don't forget it. And as a result of the tragedy there was an in depth review of old wooden stands at football grounds.

    One of the best podcasts I have watched. Don Goodman is a legend. Always enjoy listening to him on co-commentator duty, as he speaks with experience and so much sense. It was great to hear more about his career and he is so articulate with his description of stories. Some great research and questions to bring the best out of him as well. Great work chaps

    Growing up in Wolverhampton (though it was well after Don played for us), we all knew who he was and how much he did for Wolves. Always a pleasure to see him about wolves town, well after he stopped playing for us also; visiting my primary school, spotting him often driving around in his merc with license plate 'd0n 1..something like that', bumping into him at wolves train station with bag full of papers on his way to commentate etc. etc. Everyone always reflects what a gent he is. He does a cracking job on SKY and great to hear more about his career, great podcast

A great character of the game because you could see (and from a mile off) how much he wanted to win. Great interview. Love Don Goodman, he took time when I was a kid to come into our coach after his game for West Brom at Blackburn, when our lads team had played a Blackburn youth team earlier on the day and then gone to watch the baggies beat Blackburn in the old league division 2 , and said a few inspiring words. Not many Pro’s would take time out after running for 90 minutes. Thanks Don 🙏

      Sadly, that is the way of the world. ALL companies are virtually 'shoehorning' women into absolutely EVERY facet of life, just look at the coverage that women's football has received of late. Just look at the $h!te being flung in the direction of Sourness too, bloody disgrace IMHO.

    • @RichP879
      @RichP879 2 роки тому +3

      @@63Baggies No. It's women being more fairly represented and its taken far too long for this to happen. Same with non-white people.
      Also the higher profile for women's football is long overdue and I'm glad its happening. Aside from, again, fair representation, the WPL has high quality players, the international tournaments are high quality and our fantiastic Lionesses have won our first international trophy for 56 years and I and most of the nation are super-proud of them :)
      So, no its not shoehorning, its representation - that's the thing.

      Karen Carney has 144 caps for England, so she has absolutely played consistently and for a long time, at the highest level. Hence, she is emminently qualified by the criteria you spell out. She is also an excellent pundit - analytical and presents her points with clarity. So how you can use "whereas" in this context requires justification from you.

    He’s right - they battered us (Bolton) in the first leg of that playoff semi-final & Shilton was the saviour.
    He’s wrong on two counts though:
    Firstly, McGinlay didn’t head-butt Kelly - he slapped him after Kelly had first elbowed him. Whole incident stemmed from a corner (in front of the Wolves fans) where the goalkeeper smothered the ball on the ground and McGinlay (who was contesting the ball) pulled his kick at the last second - a Wolves player then went through the back of McGinlay and he ended up kneeing the keeper on his way down. Kelly took exception to this - as though McGinlay had intentionally dropped the knee - and started the fracas. IF McGinlay had gone, Kelly had to go as well (in spite of Kelly’s histrionics - acting as though he had been head-butted) & that is what McGinlay advised the ref; and
    Secondly, Wolves barely managed a meaningful effort on goal in that second leg. Had both players gone, we’d have seen it out. Don’t know if we’d have won the playoff final with McGinlay suspended though.
    Selective memories - it’s all up on UA-cam though (McGinlay-Kelly incident that is). Go watch it and tell me I’m wrong. ✌🏻

      @chrisward6741 Рік тому

      That game broke my heart as a 10 year old you were better in second leg admittedly but first leg was some of best iv saw wolves play ever up until even now, Mcateer pot shot from about 30 yards changed the whole complexion when if we'd have scored six Bolton couldn't have complained. Remember couple years later you did us 5-1 at Burnden Park, it's a rivalry that became very fierce during the 90s. Our record at Reebok/Macron was even worse we didn't win a league game there until 2018 when we won the league so hopefully that curse has been lifted.

      That was earlier the same season, when we beat you 5-1 at Burnden. Two years later we beat you 3-0 and there was a 20 man fracas on the pitch. We battered pretty much everyone that season (1996-97) though.
      As a ten year old my self - watching that first leg - I thought we’d be up against it in the second leg. Also, if memory serves, we got precious little from our games at Molineux from around that time, so the result itself wasn’t that bad - it was the performances of both teams. Turned out to be a very different game, though.

      @robt4390 you went up and after bit of yo yoing established yourselves as a solid Premier league club who even enjoyed European days. It took us 8 years to go up after that game and we came back down with a whimper. If we'd have beat you in that play off we'd have beat Reading and genuinely become a force in premier league with our spending power at the time we would have won trophies I use Blackburn as perfect example of why. I hated John Mcginlay with a passion until I listened to his cosh podcast the other day and tbf he seems like a great bloke we'd all have done same in his situation and as you alluded to if he had been sent off David Kelly should have been to.

    Atkinson signed and worked with those players because they had exceptional ability and made his job as a manager far easier. It shouldn’t give him a pass for that remark.
