Not only is Don my favourite SAFC player of all time, but my first Black hero as a child, as I'm sure he was to many others. If I ever met him I'd probably cry, that's how much I looked up to him as a kid. In an era when racism was rife in the NE, his presence did more to combat the racism in the area than he could possibly know. Every white mackem kid had a picture of big bad Don on their bedroom wall. He totally changed my outlook on life and my attitude towards people with a different skin tone than my own. Love him to bits, always will. The number 8 will always remind me of the legend that is Don Goodman.
One of the best podcasts I have watched. Don Goodman is a legend. Always enjoy listening to him on co-commentator duty, as he speaks with experience and so much sense. It was great to hear more about his career and he is so articulate with his description of stories. Some great research and questions to bring the best out of him as well. Great work chaps
Don't talk shite. It's had plenty of media attention over the years. Those watching football in those years don't forget it. And as a result of the tragedy there was an in depth review of old wooden stands at football grounds.
Out of all the guests if i bump into any of the in a quiet bar i hope its don. Seems such nice bloke. Speaks open and honestly. Top show again lads thanks
Growing up in Wolverhampton (though it was well after Don played for us), we all knew who he was and how much he did for Wolves. Always a pleasure to see him about wolves town, well after he stopped playing for us also; visiting my primary school, spotting him often driving around in his merc with license plate 'd0n 1..something like that', bumping into him at wolves train station with bag full of papers on his way to commentate etc. etc. Everyone always reflects what a gent he is. He does a cracking job on SKY and great to hear more about his career, great podcast
Yes it's so good to see someone not playing the victim. My dad taught me Offence is given not taken it's a choice to be offended or not. I've never been offended in my life but I've also I've never had a full crowd abusing me I don't know if I could handle that so I have massive respect for how he took and and he has recognised it's changed now. Like he said stuff that people get offended about today is water off a ducks back to him
Loved Super Don at the Wolves.. One of my best memories is us all walking (slightly lubricated on 8 hours alcohol) through Cardiff together with him on the way to the 2004 playoff final at the Millennium stadium .
I'm not going to lie. I never saw Don Goodman play live. But, Don Goodman is without doubt from the last era of when footballers were.footballers. A great character of the game because you could see (and from a mile off) how much he wanted to win. Great interview. Would LOVE to see.you all get hold of Steve Bull,.another "Old Gold" LENGEND - A.F.C. fan
Don goodman a brilliant free transfer on football manager 2001 . Always signed him and he won me the premier league once . Had him as a striker partnership with Micheal Owen at Liverpool. The scored a bagful of goals lol
Fantastic Don....Spoke brilliantly and was a great player for the Bantam's ....Well done for the interview lads,as always great pace and well constructed.....Thanks
Love Don Goodman, he took time when I was a kid to come into our coach after his game for West Brom at Blackburn, when our lads team had played a Blackburn youth team earlier on the day and then gone to watch the baggies beat Blackburn in the old league division 2 , and said a few inspiring words. Not many Pro’s would take time out after running for 90 minutes. Thanks Don 🙏 Edit- also an articulate and knowledgeable commentator.
I remember him being very quick & powerful, I remember seeing him advertising his personal fitness services after he retired, glad he moved back into football, he's a good talker.
Remember a great goal Don scored for Bradford City against Derby in the 84/85 season at valley parade, turned Kenny Burns and left him for dead. Also remember a hat trick v Tow Law Town in the fa cup
Don was my first footballing hero. His pace was electric. Was gutted when he left for Sunderland, but we replaced him with Bob Taylor, and the rest is history.
Don & Tony Ford were my heroes for the baggies in the late 80's was gutted when he left for Sunderland , my first experience of supporting a club that usually sells it's best players couldn't umderstand why my hero had left , was even more gutted when he joined the Dingles, cracking player though
We've ALWAYS done that; this is why we'll never build any sort of legacy. I remember being broken hearted when Laurie Cunningham left, then Bryan Robson, then the inevitable descent into mediocrity. Ron Saunders was one of the worst things to happen to us; he even sold Bully too, what at plank.
Remember Don when he played at Bradford City. A legend. His stories about Bobby Campbell (also a City legend) were quality. He played in a very, very good side and i always followed his career. Quality guy.
Graham Taylor was a Watford legend , along with Sir Elton John they took them from the old 4th Division to the First Division plus an FA Cup final RIP Mr Taylor
Great listening to Don, but disappointed with the headline, i heard racial slurs from my manager , Don says things were said in them days, and never thought it as they were racist
If you're ginger , you're ginger bastard If you're fat , you're a fat bastard If you're bald you're a bald bastard Water off a ducks back .......well said Don
I know the name but he was a bit before my time so didn’t know what to expect, but what a great guy. Really funny, it’s obvious he’s comfortable speaking publicly and keeping it interesting
He hates leeds and hes from here ,due to racism at elland from 60s to late 80s ,we only had 2 or 3 black players ever to play for us ,so alot of black boys would support arsenal in 90s, due what their fathers told them about the abuse they would of got if they attended.
what a top man ,love these interviews ,some players you hate and you watch these and realise they are actually top people who were just doing a job ,you can easily forget with all the hype footballers ar just human beings and doing there best for their families.
Now he has got to talk about the little wee fight he had with Kacy Keller, I was at that game nearly 30 years ago and I still haven't forgotten it. I remember Keller really playing on it and getting him sent off, then he turned the crowd and winked at us. Basically Keller pretended he was struck in the eye but on the camera you could see there was no real contact. Sure goodman got sent off for it if my memory stands right.
Another brilliant podcast from my favourite trio proper good crack lads I'd recommend patreon to anyone who hasn't already got it only a few quid a month well worth it undr the cosh fucking brilliant 😎👍❤️
Love him saying that big bosses at sky etc want people who have played at the highest level doing big games whereas you have people like Karen Carney doing chelsea v spurs 2 weeks ago
She was a studio pundit, he's referring to co-commentary duties. In which case they favour Neville, Carragher and Alan Smith for those duties. So he's right.
Sadly, that is the way of the world. ALL companies are virtually 'shoehorning' women into absolutely EVERY facet of life, just look at the coverage that women's football has received of late. Just look at the $h!te being flung in the direction of Sourness too, bloody disgrace IMHO.
@@63Baggies No. It's women being more fairly represented and its taken far too long for this to happen. Same with non-white people. Also the higher profile for women's football is long overdue and I'm glad its happening. Aside from, again, fair representation, the WPL has high quality players, the international tournaments are high quality and our fantiastic Lionesses have won our first international trophy for 56 years and I and most of the nation are super-proud of them :) So, no its not shoehorning, its representation - that's the thing.
Karen Carney has 144 caps for England, so she has absolutely played consistently and for a long time, at the highest level. Hence, she is emminently qualified by the criteria you spell out. She is also an excellent pundit - analytical and presents her points with clarity. So how you can use "whereas" in this context requires justification from you.
Atkinson signed and worked with those players because they had exceptional ability and made his job as a manager far easier. It shouldn’t give him a pass for that remark.
I remember that game at molineux that don references. I honestly don't remember a game as dominated by one team as wolves did that day. They absolutely murdered bolton, how it was only 2 1 I still don't know

The Bradford City was & always be a bit of a forgotten tragedy. It never got the media attention it deserved. RIP the 56.
Don't talk shite. It's had plenty of media attention over the years. Those watching football in those years don't forget it. And as a result of the tragedy there was an in depth review of old wooden stands at football grounds.
Not forgotten in Bradford and that's all that matters , don't want a media circus following around seeking justice
We do our own thing every last home game, we don’t want media attention or any of that!
Don comes across as a top bloke. Really enjoyed this one.
Out of all the guests if i bump into any of the in a quiet bar i hope its don. Seems such nice bloke. Speaks open and honestly. Top show again lads thanks
