This is the best and most comprehensive tutorials on jig fishing I've seen on UA-cam including all the variables involved. Must watch especially for those newer to the technique. Well done man.
Thank you Tyler! I have tried jigs occasionally over the past 40 years but never could figure them out. Truthfully I got frustrated and never gave them a chance. A few casts here and there and then tie something else on. After watching a couple of your previous jig videos a few months back I decided that I was going to catch bass on a jig, no matter what. I put 2 rods on the boat with a jig on both. Took a few spares and trailers with me and nothing else. Spent the day casting until I finally caught one. That was back in late August. I have been burning them up on jigs ever since, experimenting with different retrieves, yesterday was an awesome jig day. Mid October I topped 8 pounds (my PB) for the first time ever! I am now obsessed with them after being so frustrated for many years. Simply put, I had to MAKE myself do it! Now this video, the icing on the cake! Thanks again Tyler!!!
Man u hit my past story on thr head here. Sane thing kinda. Got my different lures and diffrent RB POWER CRAWS. IVE caught more big bass than anything. I never caught any thing but that way rocks for me so much I'm ready to do exactly what u do. Happy fishing!!
I'm stoked on the length of these videos. All content creators acknowledge fishing being complicated but even the 30 minute videos leave a lot to be desired. Almost an hour is fantastic
You might be the best source of free information out there. I'm a tournament fisherman in Wisconsin and your technique tips translate perfectly up here. Thanks for the info!
You nailed my fishing "type" right on the head when you mentioned a fisherman not having experience/confidence in a particular lure type. I have several hundred, if not a thousand, dollars of lures but when I get to my pond it's ALWAYS Booyah tandem spinners (yes only Booyah) or a swimbait like a Storm Wildeye Crappie. The only reason I do this is cause it's what I know and don't have the confidence to learn a new lure. You are 100% correct, I gotta get out of my comfort zone and expand my knowledge to raise my catch average. Thank you good sir, keep the educational videos comin!
Tyler, thank you for the thorough content on fishing a jig. I’ve tried them several times over the years with no luck. The information in your video gives me the confidence to try them again this season. I think your videos are more informative than any other I’ve seen on UA-cam. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
This was undoubtedly the best video on bass fishing ever made. IMO. Perhaps it because I love jig fishing. I will add this, dead sticking catches a lot of big bass for me but it’s usually in really cold water with pork. I think in cold water that pork trailer matches the slow movement of other natural movements in the water. Great video!!! Thank you.
I love seeing the parallels between my other favorite jig teacher Randy Blaukat and your teaching - it helps me to understand it better and learn. Randy's tutorials helped me catch good bass on a jig for the first time and I hope to develop it more with your information. Also big thanks for not forgetting about us boat-less pond/bank anglers!
I bought 96 various Stanley jigs at a Niles, Illinois Sportmart 20 years ago on clearance for 13 cents apiece. I still have some today. I caught an 18" largemouth the other other day in my local river, flipping a brown 5/16 oz model with a Yum LBT Crawbug into pockets along a grassy cattail covered bank.
Great video. I have not had much luck or confidence in jig fishing so I will need to follow your advice and give it another (dedicated) try! The extensive tips in this video were quite helpful 🙏
I watched this video and went out Sunday and caught a 6.7 lb largemouth on a white jig white crawl trailer. I have tried jig fishing 100 times with nothing Thanks for the video and have patience people it will work
I needed this video , most comprehensive jig info I've seen, last year started catching fish on jigs but hit a wall this year , unless you count a big swing head which I had a lot of success with
Great quality Info Mr Sir !! Out here in the California Motherload LAkes last December I went out with a Guide ( Ryan Cook Fishing ) who is the GO TO GUY for putting you on the Fish !! I learned to throw a 1/2oz football jig in 35'-60' during fall/winter and watching this is like a great refresher course 😎👊 since then, I fish the Jig all year around !! it's my confidence Bait .... went out Monday and chased the birds spooning the suspended ones ,,jerk bait deep crankbait ⭕caught soon as I threw the Jig 17.75'' 16.5'' 1 break off in a tree and missed 3 others due to Operator Hook setting error LoL ... started swimming off with it and couldn't reel up the slack fast enough 😦 THanks for The In depth break-down of how you Get 'er Done with a Jig 🤠
Amazing tutorial I let youtube run on my second monitor while gaming but lost focus because the video was so interesting ended up quitting it to watch the entire thing cant wait to try jigs now
Caught my new PR opening day in Wisconsin on Saturday with a Booyah football jig with a red rage tail trailer, and it was my first ever bass on a jig. Use this video for learning the jig techniques. Tyler your advice is great for people getting into a new techniques of bass fishing! 19.5" smallie 5lbs pregnant female. Was a blast!
This is a great video for someone just getting into jigs! Thank you. I’ve been stuck on crankbaits and spinners my entire life. Recently experimented with simple jigs and worms (Texas and Ned style rigs) and have finally got bit this year after a few weeks of tryin. Just whateve I could find in my late father’s tackebox. Time to buy some more tackle!
Thank you for all your jig videos. I had no confidence in a jig and thought they were a waist of time. However, after watching as many of your videos on jigs and Tyler Anderson's as well The Fluke Master I started going out on my kayak with no baits but jigs. The third time out I was disgusted that I had not caught any bass. I decided to change baits and left my jig dragging on the bottom while setting up another rod. I ended up catching an almost 3 lb bass by mistake and the light bulb went off, Now jig fishing is my favorite way to catch bass . Thank you so much!!!
I've always fished scenic I was a kid never super super into it but enough to have some fun. I recently after 15 years am getting really back into it. I've always used bait or jigs with medium success. This video really helped me notice somethings I was just taught wrong. Thank you so much
@OveRated you will. Especially in the beginning. Buy cheap ones to start and just understand that is the learning curve till you start to understand the difference between a branch and a bite. If I lose one now it's usually hung up on someone's broken off line in the brush. Losing lures is part of fishing. But if you are not getting hung up your not fishing where the fish are
I'm a beginner to bass fishing in northern Indiana. Up here the "lake ppl" have the lakes sprayed so much there is hardly any cover for bass such as grass. Lily pads are quickly thinning out. Your video has helped me to understand how all this comes together. To add the jig to my "go to" arsenal.
Tyler, That was a Graduate course in Jig fishing. Just incredible; I appreciate the time and effort that you put into it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I'm stoked.
Bro, wow....... what great video!!!!!! All great advice. Thanks for taking time and effort to put it all together. It sure was a gooooooooddddd one!!!!!!!!
I love this guy seriously.. Tyler is so efficient, knowledgeable, tutoring , just the full package in how to.. I've never had any luck or confidence in my jig game until now.. I FREAKIN CAN'T WAIT TO GO FISHING WITH A JIG NOW!!!! Thanks Bro seriously God Bless man.. Keep doing this .. Keep us hungry and wanting to Learn.. Merry Christmas Tyler! God Bless
Hey Tyler, I got on to Freedom Jigs just this spring. They had what I thought was the best-looking Bluegill jig, and I bought a couple. I started cracking em on that jig, so I went back and cleaned the peg off. I think I have about 10 of that one jig. After finding em, I bought a bunch of their heavier jigs for deep water and love em. I caught an 8 lber on the Bluegill jig and a bunch of nice smallmouth on those heavier deep water jigs.
ive spent so much money on jigs trailers etc an i can honestly count the bites ive had there are a couple of times i stood patient an fished it for hours but when your buddy catching em on a senko or speed worm and you arent getting any bites its hard to dedicate too it
I spent years being completely intimidated by jigs. Too many heads, too many trailers, didn’t know what to do with them…I just avoided them. Then one summer something clicked and I decided I was going to fish nothing but a jig until I caught something…bought a couple black and blue jigs (naturally…) and whatever trailer looked good. I don’t even remember. What I *do* remember, and quite vividly, is pulling up to a dock, lobbing it over, watching my slack line start to move off to the side, thinking “?” then swinging away on a nice little bass…on the very first cast. By the end of the first day I realized there was no magical voodoo mojo shtick. You could work it however you wanted (including swimming) and I went from not even wanting to try it to having a new confidence bait IMMEDIATELY. Fast forward to today…I’m tying my own jigs and I have entire boxes dedicated to them. Anybody who thinks jigs are too much…just buy a 1/2 or (my personal favorite) 3/8 oz jig that appeals to you…same with the trailer…then give it a try. My experience was a fluke…expecting to catch something immediately on any bait is unrealistic and I know that I got lucky. TLDR: Jigs aren’t intimidating at all. In some ways, they’re the easiest and most versatile baits ever devised.
Great instructional video!!! Lot to learn!! Will have to watch it a couple more times. What is the video title about skipping a jig? It didn't come up on my screen at the end of this video. Thanks!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!!
well like you said i have no confidence in a jig ive caught a few bass on a jig years ago i just got back into bass fishing last year, but like you said i just need to lock it in my hands and fish it learn it gain confidence in it thanks for the video man it was great
Swim jig is my go to. Caught some of my biggest and best on a green pumpkin swim jig running it shallow down grass lines just like in this video. Sometimes it’s nice just to get confirmation on what you already kind of know. Also learned some new things from this video as well. Great stuff as always.
@@huskerraider9137 white Shad pattern is my other go to color. I keep it pretty simple. If it’s windy or the water is really stained I’ll throw a bladed swim jig (chatterbait). I also like the angled wire spinner baits with willow or Colorado blades for bass but I grew up trout fishing and always used the Mepps in-line spinners for that. I’m in east Texas btw.
@@huskerraider9137 yeah no problem man. There’s a lot of different brands I’ve used like Strike King, Dirty Jigs, 6th Sense, etc. and they all make good products but honestly you can’t go wrong with the cheaper brand Booyah. They seem to catch just as many fish as the jigs that are twice the price. I also use their spinner baits. For bladed jigs I use the Z-man weedless chatterbaits. They’re a couple bucks more than the regular chatterbaits but I think it’s worth it especially if you fish water with a lot of vegetation.
@@huskerraider9137 oh and another lure type I forgot to mention is the lipless crankbait. Silver Shad pattern or bluegill depending on the bait fish where you’re fishing.
I love jigs and swim jigs. I love a t-rig too! The thing I’ve figured out with a t-rig is ( I don’t have issues with a hook up with a t-rig by doing this.) letting the bass have the bait longer than usual, but not to long maybe 5 seconds instead of 2 or 3 seconds. Exactly if your using a bigger soft plastic. I’ve hook so many small bass on a zoom ol monster worm by doing this. Let them swim a few more seconds with it and feeling the weight of the fish and then CRACK! Fish on!! Lol Hi I’m Jonathan and I have a channel Fishing With Faith Outdoors to help those in the middle/south Ga areas please give it a look! God bless.
fishing a thunder cricket around docks and fallen trees . fishing a river on high tide with tide out going .allsowill fish with jigs , shollow running crank baits , worms on texas rigs .can afford one reel and one rod up to 350 dollors .which bait casting rod and reel would you pick out to use .have been useing a high speed spinning reel . even use it for skipping under docks and trees .
Thank you for the info! I have a real mental block with jigs. I just lack confidence and cannot make myself throw it for more than 10 minutes. I REALLY need to take a trip with ONLY jigs in the boat. Either jig fish or don't fish. Once I caught a few fish on it, I think everything would change.
I've found this year up north throughout the fall transition, that no matter where I'm fishing, the bass always stick with structure. And any piece of vegetation that still has any green to it. But the bigger bass were on structure. Hope this helps some people.
From Pennsylvania and I fish mostly rivers. The Susquehanna and smallmouth bass are my 2 favorite things to do next to things I do with my girlfriend lol. But I have used tons of different types of lures to catch them . Hands down the jig catches more and bigger smallmouth than anything else I have tried. I use a 1/8 oz mushroom head and a 3" Fat Albert grub . This combo has out fished every single guy I have went out wadding with. I often have to give up a jig and bag if grubs to who ever I go with. The first time they go. The second time if they haven't bought them it's tuff luck . They can enjoy watching me put on a clinic all day 😂.
Wow, that was like a master class in Jig Fishing. You covered a ton in that video. Thanks for sharing all of that. I learned quite a bit. If you had to pick one jig would a roundhead skirted jig be more versatile to swim, skip and work like the football or grass jigs? Thanks.
This is the best and most comprehensive tutorials on jig fishing I've seen on UA-cam including all the variables involved. Must watch especially for those newer to the technique. Well done man.

What an awesome video! I learned so much from this one!!
Love Jigs, I have one tied on every time i go out whether im bank fishing or in the jon boat
this is the best jig fishing videos Ive seen
I've found this year up north throughout the fall transition, that no matter where I'm fishing, the bass always stick with structure. And any piece of vegetation that still has any green to it. But the bigger bass were on structure. Hope this helps some people.
Absolutely incredible video! Keep it up man your doing something special! True dedication.
Love the video. No links to the different equipment in the show notes though 😮
Great video! I learned a lot! Thanks for your channel!
Wow, that was like a master class in Jig Fishing. You covered a ton in that video. Thanks for sharing all of that. I learned quite a bit. If you had to pick one jig would a roundhead skirted jig be more versatile to swim, skip and work like the football or grass jigs? Thanks.
Great video with lots of important tips
Thanks for this video Tyler! Any additional tips for us bank anglers who spend most of our time walking ponds?
Brother I absolutely love you're content!!!
That hackney heavy cover jig looks like a winner. I'm going to fish that bait in the gnarliest trees I can find
I have used the 1/4 ball head with a Yamamoto hula grub for years. When fish aren't biting, I throw them. Heck, it's the best way to fish IMO.
