- This morning I took part in the first Cheltenham Parkrun of 2025. This is the full run from my head cam. Nothing edited, just racing! Extremely icy conditions this morning. Thank you to all the volunteers today, an amazing effort to even get the run on!

Love the highlights when you are thanking the Marshall's along the way, maneuvering the paths, at some point I thought you gonna jump and ran through the bench 😂 because of the crowds.

Love the concept of park run, seems like a driving factor in creating such great running communities worldwide. Wish it would catch on more here in the states!
We love it over here in the UK! Hopefully in time it will do, such a cool concept that gets people out running!

🎉🏆 Absolutely solid effort there mate. Still blows my mind that I'd have been lapped even if I ran a PB 😂 This weather has a lot to answer for though. Had to postpone my sub25 attempt because half the parkruns round near us got called off. Ended up volunteering to clear ice at our home parkrun and running that instead, posting a 2nd best time on the course (beaten only by the PB I set on New Years Day). Maybe i need to wear vaporflys on grass in future 🤔 Well done fella!

@Maxkelly600 I volunteer regularly anyway as we are more or less part of the core team at our home run these days so it was a no brainer. I actually almost have a 1:1 volunteer to run ratio 😀 (almost but not quite)
Its looking like the next opportunity will be the 18th if weather allows it 🤞
Would love to see you take on more runs like this if you can squeeze them into your training schedule. Makes me really want to keep getting better when I see what its like up near the front of the pack 👌

Great run for such an awful course with no room to run with that many people, GEEEESH! The scenery is nice, but so narrow for such a big crowd of people.

That’s a bit harsh - the alternative winter course is much improved and safer than the previous one which was 4 laps around the lake with no grass. We always get huge numbers in January and being a parkrun not a race people register for we have no idea how many are going to turn up on the day and no way of controlling numbers. If everyone stays aware of their surroundings and is nice to each other, it all goes smoothly. We had over 900 happy runners, joggers and walkers on Christmas Day 😊
@@charliehaward1852 Cheltenham Parkrun is incredible. I love it and i appreciate all the work you do to get it on each week. As you say, you guys never know if its 900 or 400 people. The new course is fantastic!

This is my local park run and was there yesterday 👍 I done 25.53,A bit to slippy for me
My best time on the summer course is 22.22.I’m hoping to do a sub 20min 5k this year.

Top tip if you have a smart watch ypu should be able to get your parkrun barcode on there - save you having to carry your little laminated one hahah! 😊🙏 I've done King George V Playing Fields parkrun but think I need to come try Pitville Park!

If i run on treadmill, put it at a 3% incline, how close (roughly) is the time from the treadmill to what id get on the road??
I did sub 20min 5km today on the treadmill, with a 3% incline (very noticable on the legs) so because i had the incline, does the treadmill time covert the same or close to the same on the road?? Thank you

@@alirunsfast thank you! So I use the insta 360 go 3 s that syncs up to my coros watch! The watch does it all for me!
Nice video, but why does everyone keep right? I thought it was standard practice in uk running events to keep left! We certainly ask runners to keep left at our parkrun! Second thoughts… is it because the course is clockwise?
@@edwardaustin6410 Great question, I have absolutely no idea 🤣 I think you’re right in that because it’s a clockwise course it would make it easier to overtake on the outside? I’ll ask our Parkrun team next week!
Our local Parkrun is same keep right on clockwise think it's done that way as people wanna do shortest path. So more likely to listen.

Yes, it’s keep right otherwise where the runners turn left to finish they’d be cutting across in front of the people going on to complete another lap.
At Barnsley we ask the slower ones to keep on the right and let the fastest ones through on the left - it has tight corners , it is 3 lap course and the finish is on the left
0:46 there should have been clearer instructions on where the marshal should be standing, they're in a complete blindspot to oncoming runners, so you can see why the lead runner gets confused and ultimately ends up likely hurting himself. The marshal should have been at the end of the straight before the bend, facing the runners, with their hand pointing to the direction of the course. It is not uncommon for lead runners to be club runners who haven't done that particular parkrun before - and because they have no one in front of them, the marshals really need to help that first runner. Great job for volunteering but this demonstrates why marshal positioning is important...

Hi, I’m on the core team at Cheltenham parkrun and usually that marshal is positioned on the right of that bend and visible earlier, however as Max says in his commentary it was icy on Saturday and the patch on that turn was very slippery so she was positioned in the best place to warn runners about this.

I thank my mums great friend sadly here mum died who loved doing park runs and my family went for a park run to donate money for cancer my mum said stay at the back and I was made to walk but they could see i wanted to go ahead so they said you can go ahead and I got up to her friend and finished it with her and my grandmas sister died for cancer so we did one again donating money for cancer but I was 5 in my first parkrun and my mums friend gave me a piggy back to finish race lol now I am 13 and last year she offered to take me so I went and she said I don’t need to wait i can go ahead so I get to end and waited for her RIP 2 people killed by cancer but I ran to donate money to save lives
Edit : I am part of an athletics club I ain’t a long distance runner but In the winter season we do 20 mins run around lap and they helped me finally get a pace yea but my grandma said you didn’t run it all when I was 5 it was the effort I at least finished it

What camera do you wear? I was almost hit by a car recently and want to buy a body cam as assurance but most are very big. Yours looks small but had such great video and audio.

Think that course was 4 laps when we did it a couple of years ago. No grass section just the tarmac at the bottom of the park. Imagine that congestion! We did the Bourton 10K the day after. Are you in that this year?
It sure was! They made a change in the autumn, it's really helped with congestion! I'm not in it this year but I have been told it's a fab race. Good luck if you are racing!

Serious speed, especially in that cold. Do you warm up longer when it's this cold? I feel my lungs tightening up when I run hard in the cold ??
@@na-dk9vm I did a bit before today! If it’s cold I defo go longer in the warm up for sure. The lungs can take a while to work on that weather 🤣

Parkrun is a run not a race by the way and the first Parkrun of 2025 was 01/01/2025 it was an extra one.

It's a timed run and this particular participant wants to run fast and finish first so....its a definitely a race for him. Doesn't mean it's a race for everyone.
