@@julesclarkson1931 that’s a very kind message, thank you Jules. God bless you 🙏
@Maxkelly600 gentleman, thanks. For the long run, is it all at an easy pace??
@@na-dk9vm all easy pace 👍🏻
@Maxkelly600 thanks max. So for the 3.2km, a long run of 1hr 15 mins is enough?? At an easy(ish) pace?? That would be around 12-13km for me, at an easy pace. Thanks for the advice
That would be plenty! Of course I you can do 1:30 that would also be great! Let me know how you get on. Hope the race goes well 🫱🏻🫲🏼
Man runs a sub 32 and still talking to the camera as if he just got out of bed 👊
@@na-dk9vm 🤣🤣 I was very tired but it was a good day, thanks mate!
Max, im trying to get the absolute best out of my 3k distance. Im 36 years of age Pb 13 mins. Im overweight (but working on that daily with training /diet) Your 3km time is unreal man. What did a week of training look like for you when you trained specifically for the 3k?? I want to get as fast as possible over that distance. Sub 9 is animal stuff 👍 Could you detail what monday -sunday looked like when you got sub 9 please??
Max, i forgot to ask in my original post, lets say i have a 2 mile pb attempt time trial, say im going all out with with it, how long should i run slow and warm up for that, so that im best prepared?? Thanks
@@na-dk9vm I would still run slow for 15 mins. Get those muscles warm and activated ready to give it everything! Always do your strides too
Do i do this warmup no matter if i have a 3k time trial or a 10k time trail, or do i warmup longer the shorter (faster) the race / time trial is?? Thanks
@@na-dk9vm I would do this for every run- easy or race! Do a little bit of running afterwards followed by strides!
Brilliant video max. Can i ask- im primarly a 3.2km runner (2 miles) my pb is 13 mins. I wantto get into the 12 mins range, for now. The dream would be to break 12 mins eventually. What key sessions should i do, and big question i have is, what disance ""long run"" should i do max, to prep for the 3k, is 15k enough ?? More?? Thanks inadvance for your advice, all the best 👍
@@na-dk9vm great comment! I would always recommend doing time for a long run- for you, 1 hour :15 mins would be good! I would reckoned doing the sessions form the 5k section, but change the paces to 5k pace and cut the session down by 30%!

Awesome progress mate!!! You are flying!!! Keep up the good work
A good set of tips for a rounded training schedule 👌 I'm finally getting to a point where I can hold a true zone 2 effort for a decent distance. I'm currently training for sub 25 in the 5k and managed 10 miles all zone 2 just a couple of days ago for my long run and felt great for it 💪 It's taken a while, but since getting to this point and actually making sure I keep my long runs in that zone I've definitely seen a boost in fitness. I'm guilty of having let the easy runs become more like steady runs in the past, but I think that's now behind me. Thanks for the tips 👊
Mate 10 miles in zone 2 is absolutely awesome!! If you can do that consistently then you will nail that sub 25 min 5k! Thank you mate, I hope you have a fab Xmas!! Train well and keep enjoying it!
Saw you in the glasses & initially thought you were going to walk 500 miles then walk 500 more.. Seriously but, great work!!!

Did you think the bicarb worked ?
@@kev247365 I need to do more experimenting with it, it’s been around in sport for years so there is no doubting it can work. Whether I am at the level to have a massive impact however I’m not too sure!
@Maxkelly600it would be more effective if you took it closer to the race
@ there are several studies to suggest different times, I followed this advise of this specific product which suggested 120 mins before 🫱🏻🫲🏼
@Maxkelly600 alright👍👍. I've seen a lot of professional/almost professional runners recommend it 1.5 hours before the race🤷. Keep it up man!

Just come across your channel. Great watch. We ran in Waves 2 and 3 on Sunday and put out our own race Vlog. You are probably in a tiny minority in negative splitting at that race! I've also used Bicarrb for three races - noticed the effect most at the BMAF 5K Championships two weeks ago. Unfortunately I was carrying a virus into Sunday so didn't see any positive effect as I was under the weather. Have subbed.
Thank you for your lovely message! It’s such an interesting race, with the downhill straight away followed by 2 dead turns! I am fascinated by the Bicarb, I’ll be testing it throughout the next few months! Well done with your race too, not easy at all there. I have subbed to your channel, great Vlog from Sunday 😎
Good on you 👊 what a run! I found the bicarb to massively help… I seem to be able to get my HR up higher without it hurting as much! Definitely something to go into the raceday routine moving forward!
@@TheFODRunner thank you Andy 🙏 What distance did you use Bicarb for? I think I’ll be using it for big races from now on! I need to just get over the taste 🤣 Fascinated by it!
@ awesome mate! I’ve tried a 5k, a 9.5k hilly race and a half marathon… all worked amazingly!
@ awesome! I’ll be using it in Barcelona for sure. See you out there 🫱🏻🫲🏼
Bicarbonate is nonsense 😮 Where does it go? Into the stomach with a ph around 4, immediately knocking any alkaline benefits. Also, think about what’s it’s buffering, H ions, being well hydrated will have a similar effect
@ bicarb has been used in sports for years… especially bodybuilding.. people take it neat without the hydrogel… lots of scientific studies on it as well proving its effectiveness, lots of elite athletes / Olympians using it (as well as other stuff 😉), what makes you think it isn’t effective for runners?
Holy crap. I wish my 10k was that fast, I vlogged my 10k PB on my channel yesterday. 1 hour 5 minutes. 😢😂😂 it is watching videos like this that makes me push harder and aspire to achieve more at running. Thank you for the inspiration ❤

Bold move trying the new buffer on race day but it paid off 😁 Well done on the result and executing a top race and negative split. Something I've never got right but its all learning 😅 Phenomenal effort 💪👏
@@whereweoffDAD it was very bold 🤣 My A race is Barcelona Half so I needed to test it out before then, I wanted to do it in a practice race not a training session so this was the perfect chance! How is your training going?
@Maxkelly600 🤣... hope all goes well for Barcelona... my training has been dialled back for a few weeks before I start a half block in January. Needed a mental reset more than anything as burnt out after a top year of PBs for me..but looking forward to 2025 and working towards more goals. Interesting shoe rotation. Surprised you use the Pegasus for intervals. For me: Daily Trainer - Brooks Ghost 15. Long Runs/Tempo - Saucony Ride 15. Races Asics Magic Speed 3/Saucony Kinvara. I am a 56 year old 20 minute 5K runner.
@@JRZSHR it is a bit different but works well with me! The Pegasus 40 is for track only, it has no plate but good for form! I like your rotation, how do you fine the ASICS Magic speed? Great time you run for the 5k!
@Maxkelly600 Love the Magic Speed 3, my first carbon plated shoe. I can really feel the plate pushing me forward.
Would you use the Prime X 2 Strung for a marathon? I just bought them on sale, but wondering if I should return them and buy a proper race day shoe like the Metaspeed or Vaporfly. I already have the Superblast 2 for my daily and long runs
@@un0riginal148 they are probably the best training shoe for big sessions! I would race a marathon in them if they were race legal, sadly they aren’t. They look after your legs so well, I would keep it if you can!!
@Maxkelly600 thanks for the input! I just received them a few hours ago and love how they feel (albeit I just walked around my house in them). They feel lighter than a lot of the reviews make them out to be too. I'm not running competitively, so I'll be using them for my marathons next season :)
@ great decision, you honestly won’t regret them! The only thing you’ll wish is that you could wear them every run 🤣
MAXXY wearing those Adidas for long runs makes my soul cry! 😂 NB Rebels (previous version) are great for race flat-types. I got 200+ km out of mine before I felt like I needed to start rotating into a different shoe. You’ll be flying in AF3s!
@@JadeGoesRunning Those Prime X 2 are the maddest shoes going 🤣 Never had a pair of Rebels, am I cool enough to wear them?
only the coolest know about them 🤫
Great content. Question: how do you keep track of the mileage in each shoe? I have the Adidas run app and the Garmin Connect app. But it seems like you can only put 1 type of shoe for each app. Do you write down the mileage on each shoe? 😬
@@bardongalang32 great question! The best way in all honesty is to keep a running diary. Hand written can’t be beaten! Garmin have a feature as do Coros but as you’ve mentioned they are limited!! Pen and paper is the best way!
@Maxkelly600 just as I thought. Pen and paper. I'll keep that in mind next time I have a new pair of running shoes. Thanks and keep up the good work 💪🏃🤘

Nice straight forward routine. Some of these i do myself (chicken scoops and lateral leg raises) but others are new to me. I assume this is combined with a couple of drills to promote good form. Any chance you could give some insight into the drills you find most useful? Thanks for the tips my man 👌

Cracking set of tips Max. I think there's an important one that you kind of touched on but I think it's worth being a tip of its own which is to always remember that, for the vast majority of us, this is a hobby. It should always be something we do because we want to do it and because it's something we enjoy. If theres something you aren't enjoying, switch it up and try something else. Maybe do a casual trail run instead of signing up for that race, something like that. Also, you are right about the dangers of comparison, but personally I have framed it differently in my mind. I see speedy folks like yourself and I see it as proof of what might be possible and that motivates me to stick at it and keep putting the work in. Keep up the good work ✊
Thank you so much for your kind words! I couldn't agree more on it being a hobby. It's also the best hobby in the world in my opinion. I also agree that its good to have healthy role models within the sport. Keep up the good work, maybe catch you at a race soon!
Great video! Thank you for uploading it :) May I ask your opinion on the Adidas shoes? I see you have several of them. Which model is best for 5K in your opinion? I am currently running in the takumi sen 8. It is the only running shoes I have, but I absolutely love them. They somehow feel like an extention of my feet. Would love to test out some other models as well.
@@georgskjellestad-wf5qk thank you for your comment, really appreciate it! I think for the 5k, the takumi 8s are the fastest! The pro 3s are great but possibly better for a slightly longer distance (10k/HM). The new Evo SL is the next one I’d like to try!
