The single best thing I’ve ever watched on TV. A truly incredible show, which resonates long after it ends. Career best performance from the two leads, a tangible feeling of dread, off the scale atmosphere and sensational soundtrack. It almost makes me sad that I’ll never get to watch it with fresh eyes again.
It was like they reached the mountain top with the first season, and they could only come down. This first season just punched you in the chest. Hard. Did in a few episodes what it takes some shows 6-8 seasons to do. And did it with good dialogue and showed you the horror and struggle of men without the crutch of violence and gore.
I totally agree with your statement at the end. After watching this everything after has been a let down. It had so many layers, and the characters were so real... I think I may have watched all of the episodes nine or ten times now. Each time I find something new to love. Kudos on the video, you did an awesome job.
@Association of Free People How? At which point was there a hint that the cult of Carcosa transceded the twisted mind of the killer and his followers, that there was something that a human mind couldn't grasp? Especially where did that happen in s2 & 3, as I was talking about the whole show.
@llriv The show did even better. It was more on the side of the chambers than the exaggeration of lovecraft, and it was still original, that is, on its own side. Forget lovecraft, it didn't fit here in the series.
I kinda did notice a narrative about the cosmos. There was the understanding that Rust no longer had visions, in the end when he sees the “tunnel”, it’s up to you to decide if he was wrong or not.
just finished the show. puh...what to say? i was kinda speechless and i needed to live through this serie once again. thank you good sir, you have made my goodbye to true detectivs more...worthwhile
This show is a combination of perfection!!! Perfect actors playing perfect parts, perfect story, perfect writing. And the performance of it all..... Perfection.
I feel so bad for anyone who hasn’t watched the first season of True Detective. I feel bad for seasons 2 and 3; how could you possibly top this first season? The end of Season 2 really picked up and those last few episodes gave the shades of brilliance that covered the entirety of Season 1. Anyway, great video. It inspired me to rewatch season 1...
Where they start in the first episode and where they finish in the last episode it really is a wild journey in between and just so fantastically written and acted. Can't think of one other show that even comes close.
@That Hippie Gamer Lovecraft's stories are what I'm referring to. Never is it mentioned that Hastur and Cthulhu are brothers. That was added later by August Derleth.
The King in Yellow and Hastur are given amazing treatment in the Delta Green RPG. It isn't a God or anything tangible at all, it's a force of entropy, Carcosa is a place that reacts to whoever is observing it.
@@joannaszulc1496 Yes, but also no. H.P. did put the name "Hastur", and the name "King in Yellow" as well as "Carcosa" into his works, but it was created by the author Ambrose Bierce in his short stories named "Häita the Shepherd" and "An Inhabitant of Carcosa". Although the name Hastur was used as a benevolent character, a god of sorts, not malevolent as Lovecraft made him.
Finished watching S1 yesterday and boy. 60 minutes a piece was well worth it. They did SO much with that 50-60 minutes and I loved every minute of it. Truly amazing.
Fantastic acting, phenomenal writing, astonishing directing. McConaughey's greatest performance of all time. This show is in my top 5 of series I've watched. Let's be honest, True Detective died with this season. Thanks for this video. Great job.
I really enjoyed watching that, brilliantly put together, there’ll never be anything like season 1 ever again for me. It really freaked me out but it was so compulsive to watch and the actors gave probably the finest acting performances I’ve ever seen. I always go back to it.
As a self contained story, it's the greatest piece of cinematic mystery in tv history. It's true greatness. Best anything on TV since The Shields season finale, and that's saying a lot because that was amazing.
If you witness enough of nature's cruelty you have to conclude it would be better if it did not exist. Nature is suffering on a geologic scale, as mountains of limestone can attest.
Medea hypothesis, nature is suicidal. The sun will burn out eventually anyway. I used to be way into deep ecology, etc, but we really don't have any defined (in the long term) relationship with nature, which is just creatures locked in patterns of suffering. Everything is forced to eat eachother alive or starve to death.
Stephen I think that's the point though from what he is saying. He are separate from nature because we are aware of it. The flea won't sit there wondering about the meaning of life. The leopard doesn't care about what it will be doing in ten years. The rock isn't contemplating it's scope in the universe. Nature just is. One day it won't be. Humans however need a point to their lives. It's not all about fucking and dying to us. We need some big fridge magnet reason to be in the world or we become depressed or unfulfilled. Everyone needs a purpose. Nature has its own that is unchanging. What he is saying is humans were a mistake in evolution. Our self awareness is our own worst enemy and yet is also the only reason we progressed beyond any other species or object. Humans are the biggest mistake nature ever made and that's what sets us apart from it. It's all temporary anyway. But I just wanted to mention that depravity is the very thing (born from our conciousness) that does indeed separate us from nature. Anywho. Have a good night :)

That's what I'll probably be saying as well! I just found out about this show and it looks phenomenal!! I have to get it on Blu-ray!!

We are not separate from nature, each is equally as depraved
