Trimming Fountain Grass With Duct Tape & Bungee Cords

  • When it comes to fountain grass or pampas grass, the annual pruning can be a real mess. In this video I experiment with a few different methods of bundling this hearty ornamental grass.
    While a follow-up video in the works will show more of the dark side of trimming these types of grasses (read: everything goes wrong and it is mostly my fault!), this video should serve as a quick and entertaining overview of the process and how to trim pampas, fountain, or ornamental grasses.
    Also, not mentioned in the video, but my brother can be seen assisting in blowing the property, and also let me burn the debris at his house, so no trip to the dump (or embarrassing conversations about duct tape on the fountain grass) was needed!

    Hey Brad its Russell. We talked a few months back and you gave me some good advice. I just wanted to say thanks for all your vids. You are
    one of the UA-camrs that I have really learned a lot from and you were one of the ones that motivated me to start my own channel 2 days ago!
    As I told you before your awesome at branding your business and I am going to try the same thing. When the grass starts growing here in Atlanta. I hope to put out a vid or so a week, but going to do some equipment vids the next few weeks. Take care.

    I use a grass cutting wheel on my string trimmer, works great! Allows you to stand up and really gives you great control of the cutting. Cuts right thru it. I trim around the bottom of the plant first to get all stragglers and then trim the head down. Hope that helps you, Sir. Clean up, I don't use anything to tie up the plant. Just pick it up best I can. Cheers.

      @@CopperCreekCuts you can purchase the Echo blade attachment kit at Home Depot and they do come with grass blades. There are many variations of blade designs, you just need to find one that suits landscaping needs. I use many different kinds from grass blades to small sapling blades. Good luck, Sir. Dangerous idea and not for the timid. IF you found that you were doing more of this trimming, what about taking an old mower and replacing the wheels to get a higher then normal cut. Might be able to mulch and bag the cuttings in one pass. Needs to be high enough to be effective cut and not disturb or pickup the mulch of the bed. One problem is that the long grass may wrap around the blade spindle stalling the mower. Again Dangerous but might quicken the job with little investment.

    • @CopperCreekCuts

    • @robertpendzick9250
      @robertpendzick9250 5 років тому

      Here is another, most likely more useful. Think of old cartoons with a dog catcher. They have a long pole with a loop on the end to go around the dogs neck. (Maybe an alligator catcher?) But take the pole, get a chain to go around the plant, and fasten it with a key hole catch back to the pole. Cut and repeat. No tying knots, no taping, and the chain does not cut if hit and the pole would keep the helper at a safe distance. (Key hole catch might be seen on the end of trailers, oblong hole to slide chain through and a small end to catch the link)
