      Yeah, you can make it in the oven, just set it at your lowest setting for baking, mine's at 150 but you want to set it anywhere between 150 to 170 and it takes about 4-6 hours, my kiddos go bonkers for the stuff, just make sure to use a napkin or what I like to do is use a big, clean rag to basically strain all the moisture off the meat before putting it on the oven, less moisture = shorter curing time, have fun, it definitely tastes much better than that store bought stuff lol Also forgot to add, make sure you cut off as much of the fat as possible as that will be the 1st thing to go rancid and you really don't want that at all and use Pink Curing Salt, as that helps preserve the jerky for anywhere between 2-3 weeks

  • @AngelWingless1100
    @AngelWingless1100 5 років тому +135

    For those that don't have dehydrators: Our batch of 3.5 pounds of london broil took 6 hours at 170 in my oven. We like our jerky on the thicker side and slightly chewy so I tried to maintain a 1/4" thickness when slicing. Starting at about 3.5 hours I started pulling the thinner pieces that were dried enough but still chewy to our liking. The last and thickest pieces took the full 6 hours. I did flip and turn the batches a few times here and there as well. The oven does a great job with this recipe! The grated ginger in place of the pepper flakes turned out great too. I used about 2" of ginger. I freeze mine ready peeled and cut into 1" pieces so I can just pull them and grate them while frozen. It's easier for me that way. My scottsman other half loves this jerky too. This Korean wife will definitely be making this many times more for our little family! Thanks again Maangchi!!

    • @AngelWingless1100
      @AngelWingless1100 5 років тому +2

      :-) You're welcome! I use a very fine microplane zest grater for grating ginger. I just peel and cut into pieces about 1 inch and toss into a ziploc and then it's freezer bound. I started doing this because where we live ginger that's good and fresh isn't always easy to find. So I buy in bulk when I do find good fresh ginger.

    When i was little when we made deer jerky my dad would you a similar recipe without the pepper flakes and garlic but LOTS of cracked pepper. And would use our charcoal grill for the smoker over night. I can remember before going to school asking dad "did you check if done!?" He always gave me and my sisters a small baggie for a snack. Nothing compares to real smoke but I have substituted liquid smoke and done it in a dehydrator as you did and it's just as good!! Thank you for all your videos!!! Your an amazing true "country" cook! *_Ron Popeil_* ! I loved his infomercials in the early 90’s. My family bought two Ronco dehydrators for jerky too! 😂 We had two that they would run both at night. The whole house smelled so good! I would stand near them and just inhale deeply. 🤤 I wanted it for breakfast but, could only have it as a snack after school. 😑 😂

    Hello Maangchi! I salivate uncontrollably whenever i watch these videos. I love Korean food so much especially the fact that sesame seeds are added to almost every dish. Some of the recipes are similar to Nigerian recipes. In Nigeria, this is called Kilishi. The only difference is that we don't add sesame seeds.

    As we draw to the end of a very turbulent year, I would like to thank you for all I have learnt from watching you Maanchi. My husband and daughters hunt, I cook, I am going to try this recipe on a piece of wild boar and a piece of venison. I will add some extra herbs as spices and try it out - have a very safe and prosperous new year ❤️❤️

      Sharon Parker Wild game must be frozen for at least 30 days before attempting to make jerky to kill the parasites that cause trichnosis. Please google sources for guidelines. Good luck!

      Betty Young hi and thank you, I’m in Australia and this is not found in our pork and other meats. I do freeze my wild meats first as it’s a lot to process at once. I make sausages and freeze too.
      I hope Australia continues to be free of this

      I just got my new dehydrator delivered couple weeks ago! Ordered same kind as Maangchi. I was using my oven. This is so much easier!!! Now I'm making Yukpo more often! Now it turns out even better! My son's love that I make Yukpo so much! I love enjoying Yukpo and my family enjoying healthy snack instead of sugary treats. Maangchi is awesome!

    Thank you Maangchi!!!! This is my all time favorite maangchi recipe. Everyone I shared my jerky with ❤️ it. But beware, my Nesco dehydrator only takes about 5 hours for the job. And I don’t like my jerky too too dry so I flipped mine after 2.5 hours and then every 30 min after. And the salt content on the soy sauce does affect the taste. I use Maggie seasoning soy sauce.
