    For holding the fan to allow removal... Chevy Service Manual suggests taking the belt off and using a strap wrench to hold the pulley. You can get em in the plumbing section of any big box store and they use a rubber strap which holds nice and tight without marring the surface.

    C clamp trick is AMAZING and the easiest way I’ve ever done this! I didn’t have a rubber one so I took the rubber boot of a crutch and but it over the pad of the clamp and it worked great! This has always been the most frustrating part of this job but this method has it done in two minutes literally

    This was a great video. Very informative and easy to follow. Was able to replace my water pump, ac belt and idler pulley, tensioner pulley and a few more items. Even told how tight to tighten up the bolts. Watching this gave me some xtra confidence to do it my self. Probably saved me 2-3 hundred in labor.
    Thanks

    Thanks 1A auto team. This video was extremely informative and helpful. I just finished installing my water pump yesterday, after a small hiccup today (thermostat housing gasket) I was able to complete the swap. But also found out there are 2 kinds of serpentine belts made for this model. They differ in amps. A 105 alternator amp and a 130 amp alternator. The difference is literally just an 1in and a half.

    For awhile now I'd get a "low coolant level" message on my dash once every 3 months or so. I could never find a source of a leak anywhere and simply topped of the fluid. Winter and snow have just hit where I live and all of a sudden I'm getting the low coolant message every couple of days. Still couldn't find any leaks. Now, I have started getting periodic belt squeal. I looked underneath my truck with the engine running and can see water running down my timing cover. The engine block is wet directly behind my waterpump. I believe this has been the culprit all along. I will be changing out my waterpump tomorrow. Thanks for the video.

    Great Video. The pulley on my water pump started chirping every so often last week but I thought it was the belt getting wet from all the rain we had. Well the chirping became constant yesterday and this morning I noticed a lot of antifreeze on the ground. Opened the hood and saw the chirping was coming from the pulley on the water pump every time it wobbled. I’m guessing the fluid came out near the stem. Anyway I hope that was my only issue because I changed my water pump with your help. Thank you!

    Great video. But I'm having some issues with getting that thermostat to fit into my water pump. I bought one that looks just like yours. Too tight a fit for it to enter pump. This 2002 suburban I have I acquired back in March seems to have a new pump on it, but during cold weather now the the motor never comes up to operating tempurature and now getting check light. I installed two thermostats from Oriellys auto and those thermostats have three raised ridges on top of them. Both did not do the job and I suspect those ridges are allowing coolent to bypass into the radiator and not allow the motor to get hot. Are there two different water pumps available for the 5.3L engine?

    I might be wrong but did you use a New serpentine belt as it looked like the old one? This is also a very good time to replace all the vehicles antifreeze as many of us know the stuff breaks down over time and it's not good for all the aluminum parts these motor's use if not changed, flushed etc. Otherwise great Video!!

    Great video, as all 1AAuto how-to-videos are, so I went to 1AAuto website and ordered the part, unfortunately the thermostat and housing did not come with it so had to order separately. Video said it came as a kit. Also the packaging of the water pump was very poorly done. In a big box with no bracing to prevent pump sliding all over the place in-transit. Inside of box had lots of tears in it. Also the mounting surfaces of the water pump had lots of scratches on it. Hope the gaskets provided take care of it.

    Is it 11 ft. lbs on all the LS variant truck engines? I just replaced the water pump on my 2011 Camaro SS, and the first pass was 11 ft. lbs, but the final torque spec was 22 ft. lbs on the second/final pass. ALLDATA says 22 ft. lbs on the second/final pass. Not trying to contradict you, just trying to clarify for people watching this video.

    • @Archangel0804

      Now a day the T-Stat should come with a rubber gasket. Many people don't use RTV anymore because everything comes with a gasket

    What is the main part of the water pump that tends to leak? I have an 03 Chevy Avalanche with a terrible coolant leak, I'm having to pour in more coolant every 3-4 days and pools under the truck whenever it's parked. I haven't been able to trace down the exact spot that's leaking, but the water pump tends to be the cause of coolant leak

      +Nicholas Loe Thanks for watching! A water pump can leak from anywhere really. A lot of times it will be the main gasket that fails, leaking from hoses that aren't clamped down properly, the thermostat or the inlet and outlet tubes. 1aauto.com

      i had the same problem on my 2002 chevy avalanche 8100 vortec 2500 engine. i bought a new water pump, put it on & took it off twice. it kept leaking behind the water pump. i thought it may be a freeze- plug. but, it turned out to be the brand new water pump was leaking from the back, near the seal and the bolts on the back. Now, i'm waiting for a New Water pump to Arrive. This Problem Was Very Hard to find Because i didn't Believe that a New water pump Would Leak Fluid As Soon As The New Water pump Was Put On My Truck. I Hope This Answer Will Help You. Good Luck.

    Usually people buy online to save money. I can get a water pump for an 01 suburban cheaper at every major parts store around me than what y'all are charging

    I’m doing my water pump again on my Silverado, my question is it appears that the pump is in fact the issue again but the leak starts and stops (basically intermittent) what would cause a leak to be intermittent?

    How do I know if the waterpump is going bad? What are the symptoms? 🤔

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  3 роки тому

      +Aerial Photos We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Some signs to look out for is a fluid leak, steam from your radiator or your temperature gauge not reading a consistent temperature or abnormally high. No gasket sealant on the pump to block or thermostat housing gaskets?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  6 років тому

      +Robert Boyero The new part comes with gaskets for the inlet and outlet ports on the back. The thermostat has an o-ring gasket already on it as well! The part shown in this vehicle can be viewed and purchased here: www.1aauto.com/engine-water-pump/i/1aewp00021?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&XGmZL0i6Q

    I don't believe this Suburban has what you call bypass valves going to the core. I believe the coolant runs through the heater core at all times and either goes in the cabin or is vented to the exterior via the blending door. The temperature control controls the amount of blending. No where on this vehicle have I seen valves. Great video. Thanks for posting

      So if that blending door is jammed or frozen . You’d get hot air all the time ? Correct ?

      It is easy to remove water pump with fan still attached and then take it off once pulled out.

    • @frederickcaldwell3414

      a metal Tap & Hammer while still on the truck. Otherwise remove clutch fan & Water pump. Take to nearest Auto Shop. The Mech On Duty Will Be able to Loosen The Nut Within A Few seconds.

    The torque specs for the water pump bolts in this video is wrong. You two step torque the bolts, 11lbs first then 22 lbs. He forgot the final torque sequence.
