Ah jeez. I did a project for uni last year with a 6 channel surround sound setup, with ambient tones slowly circling the user at the centre. I used a Roli lightpad block to allow the user to modulate effects on particular channels, the idea being the xy pad of the block would be mapped spatially to the position of the monitors around you - you're at the centre, and if you touch and drag in a direction, you should hear some fm or whatever come in from that direction. If I'd known about this nodes object it would've been so much easier and better... damn.
