In this video I review an test the latest 2020 battery powered electric cordless string trimmer from Toro. This model (51830 Max Flex Force) is powered by a 60v 2.5Ah battery, sports a brushless motor, has a 14/16 inch head, quick and easy line replacement, and will provide between 30-50min of run time.
CHECK IT OUT!

I was convinced i needed a gas trimmer. I purchased this trimmer today based on this revue. I am really impressed with the performance. Battery life is outstanding.
Very happy i bought it.
Smart move - gas is dead
I love this trimmer, power stays strong until the juice runs out, battery recharges fairly quickly... thanks for the guidance on reloading the string!
Glad to help
Never having owned a trimmer and not knowing how to restring.... I THANKYOU !!!!
Glad to help
Good video, good product- the 60 V battery has a lot of power; subscribed.
When they add the stick edger attachment I'm in on this. Just bought the 60V Toro mower and love it so far. My decade old stihl trimmer and edger could use replacing soon.
Not sure that this will adapt to an edger but that would be cool
Can you add considerably more line than that at a time on this trimmer when restringing it?
Was there a rubber part you took off of the shaft connection
Is it good as an edger? What is better this or the worx 12 inch 4.0 ah?
Picking one up tonight! Pretty excited! And very well priced right now, right in between the 40v ryobi and aluminum shaft ego
That's a good deal
How do u loosen string or make it longer , as u trim and it shortens
I've been using this since last summer. Only thing I don't like about it is my "quick change" head is very difficult to turn once you load the string. I noticed some others have the same issue. Interestingly, Toro's newer model (51831) does away with these heads and reverts back to traditional heads (popping open, removing spool and manually restringing). I'm guessing they had a lot of complaints. Other than that, everything else about it I like.
Make sure you are using a twisted trimmer line as the manual states. Most battery trimmers run best with a twisted line. It will be easier to turn it
Does it turn clockwise down for the cutting string?
I don't get how you just have 29K subs, your videos are well made, your persona is very agreable and your ideas for tests are fun and/or informative. Wishing you more subscribers. Keep up the great work.
Thanks mate - I appreciate the support. I just try to put out quality videos and the rest is mostly out of my hands. I started this experiment because I wanted to learn and test myself, if that is the gauge of success then I'm in good shape :)
Compatible with brush heads with a kit?
Love your vids bro
Thanks mate!!!
How much string trimmer does it come with.
What if you string is not being drawn in
Love the videos, keep them coming! Suggestion, is it possible for you when reviewing a product to place it on a "top 10 list" so that we know where it sits compared to others? Thanks.
That is a good idea!
I'm looking forward to you testing the new EGO riding mower when it launches next year!
I’m crazy all over that
I don't think you ever have to ask him to demo an EGO product!
Nice review! They have the trimmer and battery for one 179.99 at Home Depot right now. I just bought the 60 V Self-propelled mower about three months ago and I really like it. Do you know if both batteries are the same and are interchangeable? This would make it so much easier when I’m doing yardwork. Note: my battery is 60 V and 6.0 amps. If the trimmer is 2.5 Amps can I use it on my mower or my better off just buying the bare tool?
yes they are interchangable
i have the next smaller version from 2018? i love it better than a gas powered. low speed is way better than hoeing your garden.
If for some reason the line breaks and some loose line ends up inside, is it possible to open it up to dislodge any line that gets stuck in there?
Yeah - you can pop the head
Can I put one of those chainsaw tooth blades for clearing thicker brush on this Toro?
yes - might require some modifications
Both trimmers use a bump feed head by Tecomec. It doesn’t mean the trimmers are the same or even the head is the same. Many of Tecomec’s heads use that same graphic. Even your beloved Ego probably sources some of their heads from Tecomec.
Thanks for sharing the info
Nice water slide !
Right - not as nice as the hot tub!
Do you by any chance remember the 2 kids Skimboarding in myrtle beach a few years back
Yo! Your channel so good. You guys are getting good at skimming - this spring sucks no beach here at all
Kite Army thank you. That’s too bad they closed the small river beach in my neighborhood so we can’t skim there right now
On the fence between this Toro 60v or Ryobi 40v. On a $200 budget. I saw your video endorsing the Ego. I'm not an enthusiast but will do average amount of yard work. What do you think I should go with?
My favorites in order are: EGO , Milwuakee, Toro, Ryobi
Looks a lot like the old model Ryobi 40v split shaft "expand it".
It does but this unlike the Ryobi this is only a string trimmer - no other attachments
How do you take off the whole head to change it
Get an EGO
There are two tabs on the side. When you press them, the cover comes off. From there you can remove the head, clear out jammed string, etc.
Toro electric yard tools are (just) re-branded (Redworks?) yard tools from Greenworks
Yeah - same as Harbor Freight Atlas tools
I like Toro products, but I am shocked they didn't come out with a multi head battery powered string trimmer.😿
Maybe in the future
I like the trimmer
Cool!
so which one should I get ? toro or ego
Simple - EGO all the way
I'm debating between buying this trimmer/blower combo and the Ryobi trimmer/blower combo. I have the Toro 60v lawnmower and the battery. The only thing I'm worried about is that because the Toro 60v battery is larger than that of the Ryobi, when I use the trimmer and blower it will be too heavy. is it? I have a small lawn about 700 sq. feet.
I don't recommend Ryobi to often but I think given your situation that makes sense
The trimmer line is stuck inside the trimmer head. How can I get the line out?
pop the bump cover
@@Kitearmy The manual says nothing about the bump cover being openable. If I force pop it, I might break/damage it ..? Or do you know how to open it properly?
@@lordbacon4972 squeeze the tabs on the side and pull
@@Kitearmy Thanks this worked! They should really put this in the instructions manual, I didn't know it was possible to pop the cap open by pressing down on the tabs on the side then pulling up.
Good review! Sorry, I still preferred my Ego. Ego for life..
Thanks Van - You got to try other things to make sure you have the best
I bet the Toro batteries last longer due to slower recharge rate. I'm seeing lots of drop off in run time with my 2 year old Who batteries.
What I never hear mentioned is cost of ownership. I looked at the cost of replacement batteries and they are not cheap. Quite pricey actually. How many charge cycles can be expected from the supplied battery before they become no longer practical to use?
I would estimate between 5-8 years
@@Kitearmy dont lie after 2 years battery will be dead
@@arturasnesakysiu1684 so true
Hi Andrew> I bought a Battery Ego Blower because of you! It is fantastic. We have total of 5 acres but we have two horses to eat down at least 3 acres. I finally bought a ZT Gravely late last year and love. I won't let my Husband on it. The only thing I haven't done yet is learn how to trim. Like one of the comments down below I might purchase a Ego Trimmer only that I have the battery that goes with the Blower. Then I don't have to bug my Husband of doing any outside chores. He can be in his shop all day or go fishing. Thanks for sharing this.
Sounds like your husband is one lucky dude
What kind of line does this trimmer use? I literally just bought this for $129.99
.095
where did you buy it. thx for replying
How does the bump head get removed?
squeeze the tabs on the side
No how do you remove the whole head @Kitearmy
How do you like it compared to the ego
I guess someone had to ask - I think it is equal the normal EGO but the auto load carbon fiber is my fav
Does the battery come charged out of the box?
With some power - I would still charge it up
Ok, so when is it going to stop? First 7.2v then 9.6v then 12v then 14.4v then 18v then 20v then 40v then 60v! how much further? I am tired of buying a product that becomes obsolete, what is next? 100v then 200v?
100000 mega volts
Yes I wish they would stop inventing new technology.
@@GrundleGoblin It's like tech envy
Link brings up a toro blower. Lol
Come on Amazon!
I keep saying it- try Greenworks Commercial 82v.
I'm listening - I will!
@@Kitearmy LOL as powerful as gas, seriously.
This toro or the carbon fiber powerload ego. Both are $199
EGO all the way
Do you ever want to sell any of your extra weedeaters/edgers?
I give them away to my neighbors and buddies
The 80v Atlas is only $119 at Harbor Freight online right now....
No battery or charger
Can you review the 60 dollar craftsmen string trimmer on amazon
It’s gas
@@preston3291 I'm over gas - any reason you want a gas model?
Kite Army not really. It’s just that it’s 60 dollars and craftsman
@@preston3291 I would try to dissuade you from a gas model - go to home depot this weekend (memorial day is the super bowl for outdoor power equipment sales) and I'm sure that some cordless model will be on sale that will work for you
Kite Army I will thank you - great review try the way
is it better than Milwaukee?
nope - but EGO is better than Milwaukee
I got exhausted just watching you put it together! Think I am going yo choose something that needs less assembly! CALL ME LAZY.
If you're that lazy opening the box might wear you out ;)
this will drain battery faster, there is no need for 60volts. Even drills dont need it. Its simply for selling like we have bigger number which does nothing. Battery is more imprtant , Simply with same 18volts machine will do work same and most important way way longer will work
So the real question is... Toro or Ego?
Greenworks Commercial 82v
I don't know but it looks like this trimmer has no enough power.😞
It does pretty good
1. Ego 56v
2. Ryobi 40v
3. Milwaukee 18v
4.Makita 18v
5. Dewalt 18v
6. Toro
But this all top rated ones there just sorted by what kinda quality they got in the brushless moters and these are all batterie oparated
Here is my list
1. EGO
2 Milwaukee
3. Toro/greenworks/snapper
4. Makita
5. Dewalt
6. Ryobi
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
"I think I'm turning chinese, I think I'm turning chinese, I really think so"
Toro is an American brand
@@Kitearmy Toro still uses Chinese parts, such as the Loncin manufactured engine they use on some of their products (as does Exmark and a few others). Not really a knock against their quality or anything, as I believe EGO is still superior to this, and they're primarily Chinese-manufactured.
@@Kitearmy Whoever is doing the cloning is from China.
@@EnuffsEnuff318 I'm not so sure this is cloning (like ripping off) I think it's that some of the manufacturing is outsourced
I feel like the EGO would have tackled the tall grass quicker 🤷🏻♂️
😂
@@rfo23 stihl is where it’s at
😂 fr
Its pointless it does worse than 18volts. You will need to constantly recharge. As it will drain fast. Fast recharge means constant damage to battery.
Thanks for the nice review. It again looks like a reverse engineer of an older EGO model by keeping the main functionality and cutting wherever Toro can save cost from to give their "well deserved" loyal customer and saving money by cutting down the research and development department. It will be interesting to see if anyone would put both units under the RPM meter to see how fast they spin or find out the spec of the two motors to see the difference.
They definitely saved some money in R&D - though I hope Toro continues to make their own tools
Kite Army maybe Toro is paying EGO royalty for EGO’s R&D.
so what's the best one ego or toro
Should have left that nasty guard off just gets in the way of a good job also your going backwards always walk forwards with the trimmers across your body at a 45* angle never ever crab walk
Thanks for the tips - just tried to keep the trimmer in focus
Hmmm seems like without the guards I’m pretty much guaranteed to catch shrapnel in the leg 😂
Ego not gonna like this...lol
DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS PR0DUCT. THE HUB ASSEMBLY FLEW APPART AFTER 5 HOURS OF USE. GOOD LUCK REPLACING IT
I warned people - EGO is the best
