    DMDE is a powerful tool for data searching, editing, and recovery on disks. It may recover directory structure and files in some complicated cases through the use of special algorithms when other software can't help.

    so at 11:10 when you're recovering the virtual machine files, are those deleted and you're actually recovering them? or are they normal files that you would be able to see when connecting the drive to the computer?
    edit: when you perform a full scan on the drive, that means you'll be able to see and recover the deleted images right?

      Those are files to be recovered that were discovered in the initial scan of the drive or image.
      Yes when you do a full scan you will be able to then recover

    Great primer! Thank you. I have a degraded raid 5 array, in which 3 of 4 disks are still intact. After a few false starts with other software, I'm hoping to try DMDE for this task soon. Do you think this would be a useful tool in my case? Does the free version do any recovery or would I need to consider the paid version?

    • @ryd3v
      @ryd3v  Рік тому +1

      Thank you. Yes I think it would be a great tool, you may possibly need a paid version in your case depending on how many files you wish to recover

    DMDE runs great on a lightweight Linux distro, Linux is waaay better at handling data recovery ;-)

      This probably comes a bit late, but I am posting this for any other Mac user that might have the same question/issue:
      Running the app with 'administrator privileges' essentially means that the app can change more stuff on your Mac than a 'regular' app. Per default, apps don't have as many permissions for security reasons. As dmde is a disk recovery tool, it needs to have more control of your system. Hence, you need to explicitly give it 'admin privileges'.
      However, just running dmde as administrator did not suffice in my case. I had to do the following:
      1. install dmde (i.e. copy it to the Applications folder)
      2. give dmde full disk access (type 'Full Disk Access' in Spotlight and select the settings menu that shows up, then activate the slider for dmde).
      3. launch dmde
      4. click on 'Administrator' when prompted and enter the password
      Then, I was able to select my Mac's internal hard drive and run a scan on it.

      @@ryd3v and within original folders? I just recovered some of my data, but instead of having like 5 main folders, it gave me literally thousands of folders - it looks like each folder is created for one file. :(
