    What a cracking bit of kit that is so much waste , takes up so little room beside the pond and the bonus is the built in uv . As always an honest reveal and review great video Tim

      So far I think that this is much better than any of the ‘black box’ filters full of sponge. So I think for a pump fed pond the right size, they are really good. Maybe a smaller Koi pond on a skimmer.

  • @hippo5346
    @hippo5346 2 місяці тому +1

    Whats the intended use for these , Tim ? Most koi ponds are bigger than 5000l and if you had it as a polisher after your main filter most have them running at a lot more than the recommended 2500 lph ?? Is it meant as a smaller version of the Tempest , perhaps - for smaller ponds or grow-ons ? Be interested to see how it goes on further tests .

      Yes you’re correct. The next video explains my thoughts but they beat any crappy garden centre black box. QT, grow on too.

    Like my tempest and would consider this another add on. I must admit I find leaving the drain valve open when I start the pump helps purge material that sits below the media. Good video Tim as per normal - hope to see more pond visits 👍

    loving the surge on the garden pond, cleaning every couple of days now so easy don't even get my hands wet and the water is great for the garden. Huge upgrade from the pressure filter. build quality much better than the Tempest. Highly recommend for a small pump fed pond pond.

      As it’s set up as a stand alone pump fed I’m not sure I can do that. The pond it’s on is over what they recommend. The water in the pond is crystal and always is. Now… because the pond has Tosai in that are constantly munching on the sides, then they are pulling the algae all the time.

    Wow that is impressive. I have a very small 280 gallon pond with 6 x 10” koi. I’m using a pressure flow pond pumped filter system with a built in 18w UV. It’s just a pain to clean, sponges etc. I think this would be much easier as a filter system. Are they ok to be outside over winter? Frost proof etc? And how much water do you loose for each clean, did you say 5 gallons each time in the video?

    • @TimWaddington
      @TimWaddington  2 місяці тому

      Did you add the gel direct to the media?
      I will note this and try and check our flow rate. Yours could have been that the media in the Surge was buoyant, like when you start a Nexus and the media floats, so would make sense the flow would slow down slightly. I’ll check for the same thing 👍
