    FAQ's:
    Q: My Key Cap will not click down in place correctly. What's wrong?
    A: If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.
    Q: Where can I purchase replacement keys?
    A: I usually get my keys on eBay or www.replacementlaptopkeys.com. If you cannot find a loose key for sale, you may have to purchase a keyboard and take a key from there.
    Q: I have a Key or Keys that are not working. Will this fix them?
    A: This video is a tutorial on how to replace a key. If your keys are not working but are not mechanically broken, troubleshoot them as seen here; • How To Fix Troubleshoo... .
    Q: The hinge clip came apart into two pieces. How can I reassemble?
    A: They fit together with a small plastic pin on the left and right of the inner clip. These fit into holes on the outer clip. To see exactly how the inner clip sits in the outer clip, remove another key cap and copy the clip under it.
    Q: The rubber spring came off. How do I reattach it?
    A: There isn't really a good way to reattach those. They are not meant to be replaced. Best advice is try to use a small amount of glue. If that does not work, you may have to replace the keyboard.

    Thanks for the vid :) I've just bought a laptop with the same type of keypad, and I needed to know if the keys are removable like in my old laptop. So now I know :)
    Also, the metal bar under longer keys makes them more stable, I'd say. Without the metal bar the key would bent sideways when you press on a side of the key and not right in the middle. I tried once to remove the metal bar from under the space key, and the space key was useless without the bar to support it.

    I just figured out that my d key causes my laptop to shut down when depressed too far. One fix said hold it down until reboot is done. It fixed *_that_* problem but a small bit of my retainer clip melted lol.
    pulled it free and cut away the melted plastic, surprisingly the clip was only melted along the edge and was fully useable, but I have shaky ass hands so it took me an hour to get the key back in lol. Prolly wouldn't have found out how to clip it properly on my own.

  • @tarekyared4404
    @tarekyared4404 4 роки тому

    I tried removing a couple of keys to clean underneath like you showed. The plastic tabs on the back of the key caps themselves broke on both keys! Of course I can't press the key caps back in because the plastic tabs broke and there is nothing for them to lock into the key cap retainer clip with. The key cap retainer clips themselves look perfectly fine. No damage to those.
    What could be going wrong? It seems like my key cap tabs on the back are just extremely brittle. Have you run into that before?
    Should I just try replacing the key cap from another replacement keyboard and pressing them in or should I replace both the key cap and retainer clip?

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, I would just try to replace the Caps from another keyboard. I have not run across that issue very frequently. In my experience, the Retainer Clips will break far before the clips on the Key Cap will. Yours must just be very brittle :(

    • @tarekyared4404
      @tarekyared4404 4 роки тому

      @@PC_Monkey Thanks for the advice. I have used my laptop out in really cold weather before. I wonder if that made those tiny tabs on the back of the key caps extra brittle. When I tried pulling them off, they did not pop off as easily as in your video and other videos where they just seem to pop up with little force.
      I have a whole replacement keyboard coming in a couple of weeks. I will experiment on keys that I don't need to replace first in case I manage to break those key cap tabs too. I will see if the key caps pop off very nicely on the replacement keyboard and compare it to my stock keyboard.
      I have an Asus X555L. Looks nearly identical to the one you are working on.

      If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. If the hinge clip is not attaching to the keyboard correctly, its either because the clip is damaged or not being installed in the correct orientation. Or the metal pins on the keyboard are bent out of place.
