I giged with one of these every weekend this last summer and it was a game changer for my direct tone. Glad I watched this. Looks like I need to update my pedal. First firmware did not save value changes, basically only what blocks were on or off. Thanks for the video!
Great demo. It’s sounds pretty good considering the price however I wonder what it feels like playing through one. Regardless of the unit, this gentleman is one of the best demonstrators on UA-cam.
Covid took a pretty big bite out of my guitarsenal and gear over the last few years. All my amps, all my pedals, an AXFX Ultra, a Victory V4 preamp, and 10 out of 12 guitars! All sold to make ends meet. 😩 Currently getting by with my Agile Les Pau, Modded Squire Affinity Jazzmaster HH, BiasFX, a Midicommander foot switch, and an Orange OMEC Teleport for on the go via iOS. This little NU-X box may be just what I've been looking for to cut the cord er um, lighting cable. Wish it had a dual amp signal flow tho. I'm kinda keen lately with combining an crunchy/clean AC30 style (wet) amp with a gainy Dual Rect (dry) amp ala The Foo's Colour and the Shape album. Such a great all 'rounder workhorse tone IMO. Fantastic demo as always Burgs! Cheers!
Just grabbed a used one for $150USD. Excellent price point for an impressively flexible little practice/travel amp. I'm using it as a way to get decent tones for practice in my office.
I'll give them due credit. Back before the Verdugo series came out Nu-X were just another Chinese pedal company making cheap knock-offs of well-known pedals. Now I wouldn't call them 'originators' but they are making some good quality gear at reasonable prices and they have distinctive features. I think I said this about the Valeton GP-100 - If you're in a studio layering up guitar tones these kinds of devices are a god-send. Fifteen years ago I was recording a demo in a London studio and recorded most of the guitar tracks using a Behringer V-Amp 2. The engineer kind of sneered at it but once we started recording I got the sounds I needed quickly. All the time saved allowed for more attention on the vocals and final mix. When it was finished I was complemented on my guitar sounds!😮 The big amp in the live room sounded better as you'd expect but for all the extra textures I didn't need it at all.
Brett, it sounds fantastic and so far ticks all the boxes. But how does it sound if you run external drive pedals into it? That would be the deal breaker for me, and most videos I have watched about it so far have only used the in built drive effects.
I own this unit and use it live with a headrush FRFR speaker. I think it sounds great. Two things to know. You need to have the patience to tweak and utilize all the available features. Also the stock IR's are very underwhelming. I loaded some ownhammer IR's and it came to life. I like using the same ir for all scenes in a live setting as it keeps the tone more consistent.
Nice video as usual. Being totally new to this platform, I am a bit frustrated not being able to get similar sounds as you get. What connections do you make to get the external sound? Also, I am unable to load from NUX web site the Editor as a regular software into Win 10. I just get an exec file. What platform do you use? Thanks
You have to go up to "Extract all files" or just double click the "Execute file".. in order to extract all the files.. From there.. there should be a program installer for a "stand alone" program that installs pretty easy into windows. But windows is a pain in the dick like every other computer in my opinion. And finally.. your computer\device probably needs an update in order to properly install these newer programs and files and such. Which is what I'd almost guarantee is your problem. Everytime my windows computer won't function right... It needs ANOTHER FRICKIN UPDATE SMH. So go into your windows\computer settings and update your windows and pertaining softwares.. Drivers and such from NuX afterwards if needed.. (I'm guessing here but do have some experience with guitar and pedal software). I do have this Amp Academy being delivered any day now too. So be patient and good luck bro.. hope this helps.
Hello I have and odd questions, I am thinking to buy the unit but in some scenarios I just want to use it as an IR Box. Were you able to shut the amp simulation off from the software? Best Regards and greetings from Türkiye ❤
Hum ... so it's possible to send the signal into a real cabinet? I think something like this would work, but not sure: Guitar -> Amp Academy (IR off) -> Power amp (such as Mooer Baby Bomb 30) -> Cabinet (such as Orange PPC112)
Hello, I have a problem with my pedal, it saturates on the XLR output, even when it is clean without effects, that does not happen on the PLUG output, I tried 2 new pedals and they have the same problem, could you help me?
I bought one, had it for a short time and sold it. Clean tones were fabulous. The dirty were not great and the more saturated the sound obviously the more noise as with any pedal but this was ridiculous and the noise gate was awful. Ultimately I went back to a Mooer GE300 as I needed more versatility.
Ive been using a boss ir 200, never been happy with it.. This sounds way better, bit more meat on the bones,,, but can't be bothered with the software side of it.. 😢
$300 squid.. pretty gd.. sounds gd thru the fone. I got the little Nu-X looper, ya play a cpl of bars, press drums & bang...makes practicing easier. But this things pretty flexible. Cheers Burgs!
It's getting too much for novice players though this need way more time to understand it's good for ppl who have a bit of exposure to those old tones. I ll be consumed into the black hole this is. I wanted this but but it is tooooooo complex.
These are stellar times to guitar players. Thank you.
Agreed, the amount of cheaper options that are actually usable nowadays is great for people wanting to get into guitar.
Was on the fence of trying one of these until I heard your demo. You got some really great sounds out of this unit. Thanks
I like the Tele in the background.
That is pretty damn impressive for the price. Great demo as always, thanks Brett.
Brett, your demos are excellent. no fuss, no muss. just great sounds.
These things just make me want to go hug my Valco amp from the 50's.
Two knobs and three inputs, one for accordion.
I have an accordian.
Brett just sold 10,000 more of these units. I'm sold. You are wonderful Brett. Thank you for your service.

Man that Charvel looks and sounds fantastic! Nux is killing the game right now!
This pedal has my attention.
Great video!
6:15 - The "That Pedal Show" riff!!!

You recorded an album with a v amp 2? Where were you twenty years ago telling 14yo me this before I went down the boutique pedal rabbit hole
@@tanguyen11 I went down that rabbit hole as well. In fact I think I'm still there! 😵💫😂
Lovely review! That Ownhammer IR sounds filthy good!
I really enjoy your demos mr.kingman.your one of my favs.
I bought the NU-X mighty plug pro a month ago and the little gadget is freaking impressive.
So Very Cool Demo/Review Thankyou. Awesome playing as always. Cheers
Great review as always Brett! Must have one of these!
Took me almost a year to get mine but I love it.
GOOD MORNING. WHAT MODEL CHARVEL IS IT. REGARDS
had the tape echo and steel singer, and recently picked up the Nux plexi drive to slap my 100 watt Peacemaker’s front end. nice stuff for cheap!
Wow, that sounds pretty awesome actually !!
I have a new NUX pedals and they are good. Super inexpensive but they sound good.
Hi Brett! Thanks for the great review. Great product. Buying!
muy bueno el video, tengo el SOLID STUDIO y lo cambiaría por este!!!
Got to have one great review Mr K!🙂
This sounds amazing! And it is simple pedal.
Best demo and best tone on youtube for this pedal, would you review the Nux Queen of tone?.
Brett, it sounds fantastic and so far ticks all the boxes. But how does it sound if you run external drive pedals into it? That would be the deal breaker for me, and most videos I have watched about it so far have only used the in built drive effects.
If it sounds good clean you should be fine
It really is an amazing pedal, can’t wait this weekend to record more stuff with it
Nu-X have alweays been innovative! Never had anything bad with their name on. Victor...
Only you can make this pedal sound good 😆
I've tried nux gear, imo it sounds cold and numeric...😉😁
Brett Kingman - your NU-X: Amp Academy Stompbox Modeler - sounds f*cking GREAT !
Cheers 🍻
Awesome!
👍👍
Perfect form factor and features, I bought two ;-) My own IRs are much better than the built in ones.
wow you're an amazing human being

Brillant
Damn, I'm really impressed with those sounds!
but its fake !!
Ele programa os timbres sem o not book ou seja dá pra timbra só com o pedal mesmo eu gostei muito dos timbres desculpa a pergunta
What ownhammer IR you are using?

@@mrredritehand Thank you, I got it to work.
@@oldtimer99 Hey that's great, rock on brother ..
The looper is probably so you can listen while changing parameters...
can I plug in a midi controller through the usb in of the pedal and use it as a patch/preset switch?
Hello I have and odd questions, I am thinking to buy the unit but in some scenarios I just want to use it as an IR Box. Were you able to shut the amp simulation off from the software? Best Regards and greetings from Türkiye ❤
Brett, this vs Amplifire or Firebox? How do you feel the atack response? Which one has better cleans for jazz or blues?
Is this any good for a live use, something like ampless rig ?
Hum ... so it's possible to send the signal into a real cabinet? I think something like this would work, but not sure: Guitar -> Amp Academy (IR off) -> Power amp (such as Mooer Baby Bomb 30) -> Cabinet (such as Orange PPC112)

Hello, I have a problem with my pedal, it saturates on the XLR output, even when it is clean without effects, that does not happen on the PLUG output, I tried 2 new pedals and they have the same problem, could you help me?
I have read the DI is a really hot output. You may need to put some kind of buffer or other DI to tame the level if your getting overload.
I bought one, had it for a short time and sold it. Clean tones were fabulous. So much overdriven tone.. and overblown effects. Not much variation here-
Liveless thin and digital sounding, like most cheaper modelers.
