So glad I came across this! I use it for headphone practice. I almost packed mine up and shipped it back it sounded so fuzzy and horrible. But after your signal chain recs it sounds absolutely awesome.
When practicing; do you connect your headphones directly to the phone out jack from the Amp Academy? Does it sound like what we're hearing in the video?
As a guitarist that gigged only with analog pedals & an amp, this device will really help a lot in terms of transportation & save a lot of money in the long run. This video is really helpful. Thanks a lot!
Wouldn’t this just replace your amp? So your board build would be just as you’d build around an amp with an effects loop. Pedals that you’d normally put in front of your amp go first then time/reverb would go into effects loop. Best part is that you can move your chain in software so your cab sim could go after the fx loop.
Cool Video! I thought my Amp Academy was broken because I got a lot of noise when the Send/Return was engaged, the solution turned out the be moving the Send/Return block between Amp and Ir. So happy this works, because I love this pedal and it’s features. And heck yeah I’m in to a giveaway. And a full board build will be awesome to win. Thanks for the video.
For a church on a budget that is looking for a very usable house pedalboard for volunteers to use, these three pedals would be more than enough to get through almost any worship set! I think it would be a great giveaway. Thanks for following with this video after spending some more time with the pedal. Sounds even better than the first video 😃
This thing sounds really good, on the other hand, the only thing I would like to add are stereo features for outputs and FX loop, then this will be perfect.
Jimmy, your channel and resources are a big help to me back in Mississippi. I help with an offsite worship service and have taken on the role of coordinating/leading the worship team. Whether it is learning to use clicks, cues, and backing tracks or learning about pedals like this, it all has been very beneficial. I appreciate what you’re doing! I’d like to learn more about any giveaways in the future. Thanks man!
Hi, I know this is an old video, but I noticed your input volume is all the way down, why? I seem to be getting this nasty internal clipping sound, cant seem to figure out what gain stage it is coming from. My master volume is always on the very low side (under 9 oçlock) is this normal as I see your master is always quite high. Any tips around this would be great, thanks. It sounds good but I think it can sound better. Thanks
Thanks for the useful tips. Just got my Amp Academy today and like it. But I really hope that the next firmware update will enhance the scene function to save all the set parameters in each block. For now I find it quite useless to use scenes which are only enabling/disabling the blocks. I want at least different reverb / gain settings in each scene :(
Great simple video! Going to swap over to this pedal this week from a Valeton GP200. I want to go back to using my other pedals and simplify the setup.
Glad I ran into this video. Been looking for something to replace my amps. I’ve nearly bit the bullet and bought a ACS1 or the joyo preamp house with the cab box. The effects loop is what is getting my attention. Looks like this pedal would be the solution to that.
Same reason I never got an Iridium or the other Joyo. I have a Joyo Californian on clean crunch, with a Riverside with expression pedal set up I hate the idea of my verbs EHX Oceans 12 and delays Boss RE20 going into a dirty sound. It just makes no sense for a company like Strymon and others to not do this.
The ability to add ir's is amazing. I recently learned this trick: if you know what amp a guitarist used, let's say Tom delonge. If you want his guitar tone, he used a mesa boogie. So use the mesa boogie amp sim, dial in the sound as close as you can amp wise, then find a song where its just guitar. Use an eq with eq matching, and create an it with it. If you do it right It sounds damn near identical to their tone
He uses a gain/distortion pedal and/or the eq set to boost. So I reckon he has to lower the input gain to get the amp sounding ok. If I'm right, this is NOT a good way to set the pedal up!
That sounds amazing, thank you for doing this review. One question; Did you connect your headphones directly to the phone out jack from the Amp Academy? Does it sound like what we're hearing in the video? PS: I asked the same in your previous video, I hope you don't mind
Ive been thinking about buying the joyo preamp house/cab box combo for a while, especially since i own a bass preamp that i can pair with the cab box. But if this accepts bass cab ir's then im definitely going for this one, id be saving a good amount of money. To use this with my bass preamp i would have to either disable all signal blocks except IR or go in through the fx return im guessing
Do HX Effects Expanse Packs IR's work with this pedal? I have the HX Effects and am hoping for full compatibility. Please consider doing a video pairing the HX Effects with the NUX Amp Academy.
HX Effects doesn't have IR's (Impulse Response's) in them. An IR is a capture of a mic and cab. However, the HX Effects EXPANSE Pack and any other Effects WILL work with the Amp Academy! You can either run it into the front or use the FX Loop in the Amp Academy....and I think you just gave me a good idea for another video :)

Does the IR out switch turn off just the “amp modeling IR” in 1/4” jack or all the effects in the chain? The reason I ask is I’d like to use the pedal with my acoustic and electric guitars and I was wondering if I can run an acoustic IR without the amp modeling. From what I’ve seen you can’t turn off the amp modeling in the signal chain so I was wondering if you could use the switch to turn off the amp modeling and use it basically as an acoustic IR direct box.
