That seems a funny arrangement with just a small window in the middle at the ends of the cars. The fun thing about driverless systems should be that you're able to get an unobstructed forward view, like Docklands Light Railway
My favorite part about my hometown. For the negative comments of why never expanded was blocked by the City council. Because nobody really liked mayor at The time for even getting this built. But still beats the qline on being useful.
When was it opened? The description doesn't really say very much about it other than a snippet from Wikipedia about something different that was supposed to start in 2014
Yeah, I love the sounds the Mark I's traction motors make. The ones in the Vancouver SkyTrain (British Columbia, Canada) run in six car sets and are in good condition despite being nearly 40 years old. A new paint job really makes the original Mark I's look "new."
We have the same Mark 1 cars here in Vancouver BC. Though we're phasing them out. We've significantly expanded our transit rail network. We now have Mark V rail cars.
@@edwardmiessner6502 The trains were actually well-preserved and completely refurbished around 2015. Loose bolts holding down a section of track is what caused the derailment.
This thing is so bizarre. Its one way direction makes it horribly inefficient as public transport, and its so loud. I love detroit and sometimes glaze it, but come on. What is this?
Unfortunately, it's the only way to generate enough revenue to keep it running. It costs the government money to operate and, unlike the streetcar, isn't sponsored by a private operator, so it has to sell as much advertising as it can to make enough to keep afloat
Downtown is in fact far from "totally vacant" and you should see ridership during an event such as the Auto show or a Tigers game. Filming during the daytime on a weekend in a predominantly business oriented area tends to make anywhere appear that way
Downtown isn't vacant at all, quite the opposite compared to 10, 20 years ago but a lot of companies still do work from home. The train doesn't get a lot of use even though people seem perfectly willing to pay $40 more to park right next to the stadium(s) and sit in traffic afterward.

Detroit looks much nicer than I expected. Main stream media is always saying negative things about Detroit.
I was in Detroit about 10 years ago. Streets were very nice but they were empty.
It’s getting so much nicer especially in downtown
itl be interesting to see the X Scarborough RT ... TTC cars on people Mover when they arrive and go into service

I thought the expansions were defunded by Republicans in Washington
I'm glad Detroit is going to buy the old Scarborough RT trains to augment their rolling stock... VIVA, Detroit People Mover, VIVA!

Construction started in fall 1983.
July 31, 1987 first day of service.
I honestly like those Mark Is.
Maybe if I go to the US, I'll ride them there!

If they ever decide to build a second track going the opposite way, then the system might be more useful
❤
Awesome video. Fare is only 75 cents??🤯
That people mover sounds very haunting. Fitting for a place like Detroit.
😂😂 it's fun and useful on how bad parking is downtown
Toronto's mark 1 trains are no more after a derailment that happened in July.
They will be coming to Detroit actually.
@@GolfFanaticEstRBackup They were badly maintained by Toronto I don't think Detroit would want them

At 5:33, we can see the text looks like it is in arabic
That's because it is- we have a pretty sizable Arabic-speaking population in Detroit so DDOT and DPM translate their signs
Hi

Ugh, plastering pink adverts all over them. It doesnt even look like a means of transport, it looks like an advertising hoarding
Advertising ain’t just for placards or buses anymore.

Use socialism you never see ads on socialist nation...
Can you do trains in manila, Philippines?
If you fund my trip to the Philippines ;) In all seriousness would love to go there one day!!
The downtown looks totally vacant and nobody uses this skytrain 😢

I guarantee you this was a Tues or weds in the early afternoon and people here still work from home
