Some roads ad neighborhoods are so bad the city simply block them off. E. Cleveland didn't want to be a part of bigger Cleveland, opting to stand on its own. Economic base was lost, and you have Detroit 2.0. E. Cleveland is definitely one of the worst places for deterioration in the country. No place in America should look like this.

People never learn. And it's not just this country! Quebec in Canada is another one... They always think they can do it on their own seldom does this strategy ever workout.
I think if people could look at content providers that are excellent like Charlie b, etc, they would discover that rural poverty is really neglectful. As bad and horrible cities can be they have things for people. When you c e d e from a major urban area you lose out on all those services and you begin to get the type of poverty you see and very rural areas. The type of poverty that affects health, and many other things.

My guess is that as the population shrank, the least desirable places were the hardest to fill, so the small units in the apartment buildings became empty first.
Also, most of those "houses" are split up into units as well. Which is common in the northeast and great lakes.
People always comment how big the "houses" are out here, but they don't realize they're essentially just apartment buildings in the shape of a house.

Many of the people who own their homes here are elderly and they do they best they can. When they die, the houses often get sold off to slumlords who just rent them at a low price and don't take care of them until they fall apart. This is a suburb too, so it depends very heavily on the economy of the nearby city which has been declining for decades.

I worked on RANDALL PARK MALL, was one of the world's largest enclosed shopping malls when it opened in 1976. Owned and operated by DeBartolo, the mall was a success, with collective first-year sales of $140 million. Although Randall Park siphoned off business from other shopping centers, it did not cause any to close. In 1995 the 120-store mall employed 5,000 people. Currently leveled.

Hey Charlie, I live in Australia and one of my favourite things to do is watch your channel. Not only is it like a virtual trip to some of the saddest parts of your country. It's also very eye opening as to the poverty and crimes you guys are facing.
It does amaze me that ya'll live in derelict housing but drive such fancy cars. Please someone explain how that is possible?
Over here we are facing the biggest housing crisis ever.
If I was to donate would it go towards helping these poor lost souls? I especially would like to help the little ones over there.

And how much do you think you'd have to donate to help these ""poor lost souls""? A couple Billion might do the trick if you have that extra cash laying around let me know! Mann you know if you donate it's going to go into this mans' pocket! What could he possibly do to help these people? I do enjoy the content though in all seriousness, makes me appreciate what I have in life.

Cleveland like most Rust Belt cities suffered in the 70s from the Oil Crisis and competition from Germany and Japan. Also, shipping on Lake Erie was just recovering from two decades of low water levels. These factors pushed investors to build elsewhere rather than construct new factories along the lakeshores. In turn, other states offered irresistible tax incentives.
As well, winters here are too brutal to balance our gorgeous summers.

Right next door. Should explore that one. Back in 06 people were scrapping street signs all over Granite City. You never knew when to stop or what street you were coming up to or even what street you were on sometimes.

But they keep voting in the same people and same problems . The state has just sent in the state troopers to help with the crime problem . It can't be helped because there is no tax base .
