So... 1984 release. This is why Metallica are so revered... this was utterly unique at the time. It still holds up today. This cd is in rotation in my car right now :)
I have got all the CD:s still. But nowadays they are in my father's basement gym. Together with Sabbath, Nazareth etc. I found a use for my old albums, not just to collect dust in my shelf. My father loves this music, and I love working out. We all win. (He trains with me though he has arthritis and kidney failure and is 64 years old). P.S. (although no-one is interested) My father used to be a weight lifter (70's/80's) and did 200 bench (440 lbs).
I jam out to Metallica everyday, still to today, I'm turning 65 nxt month, & I'm still headbanging to them, & I mean hair whipping everywhere, 😆 🤣 Always been a Metallica headbanger since I heard of them, & that's in the 1980's, When I was a dancer, I use to dance to Metallica with my leather & spikes & my black thigh high heeled boots!!! I had all the guys headbanging with me, Drinking double shots of Jack Danials, Oh & I did alot of high round house kicks & gymnastics in my routine, This song made me really get into my choreography, Helped my performance & earned myself some nice tips, & Had a great time too as well, Metallica fans are the best to party with!!! The best memories ever, I got the chance to see Metallica in the early 90's, They're live shows rule, They were 🔥!!!
Ride the lightning is a fucking BANGER! I remember standing in my backyard, during a electrical storm, holding the metal clothesline, blasting this song, screaming the lyrics to the sky. Daring the storm to strike me. All I got was the sniffles for a full day afterwards 🤣
I was 12 when they released Kill'Em All. I was already playing guitar for several years at the time. I've been a huge fan ever since that first time hearing them back in 1983.
23:24 The grumble you heard was the legend Cliff and his fat bass tone, the dude was a genius. In fact The Outlaw Torn is believed to be about James' process of grief for the loss of Cliff And yes Metal, Jazz and blues have similarities, especially in Metallica since James is a great fan of both blues and Jazz
I SO love that you love it. I love new fans. It gets me excited to see this kind of reaction 😊 it's "Head banging" though, not "Nodding", but glad you're doing it. 👍 🤘🏻
I’ve seen them about half a dozen times since 1986. They don’t change up their songs much honestly but I will tell you they sound even better live! You need to check out a show- you will live on that high emotion for weeks! I actually just listened to an entire concert from 2018 when I saw them last.
That "distance" you hear on Ride The Lighting is unique among Metallica's music. I'm not sure how the recording process differed on this album, but compared to all their other albums it sounds almost cold. It makes it epic though. Master of Puppets sounds warm compared to Ride The Lighting. It's hard to describe but side by side it's very noticeable.
I absolutely love metallicas first 5 albums and some other songs off other albums but THAT at 19:19, that Crisp, Cold, Crunchy Tone is why Ride The Lightning is my favorite album. It is SO awesome and it fits the ALBUM THEME VERY WELL. Cliff Burton, the bands former bassist, who unfortunately died in a bus accident in 1986, is one of the best bassists of all time, he was highly educated in not only metal but classical. Listen to fight fire with fire. Cliff is often credited for the awesome intro, in which he was inspired by classical music. If you react to For Whom the Bell Tolls, I’d react to Live at Day on the Green, 1985. (before or after listening to the studio version, you choose) It’s actually pretty close to the studio version (song wise) and you can see Cliff’s Epic Bass solo at the beginning, and shows him playing the intro pretty well too.
I was just in the process of sucking in a big breath to cough when you said “I’m going to pause it right here ok? This is a strategic pause.” and I choked instead. Thanks a bunch. 😂
been to 3 MetallicA concerts over about a 20 year period, and there's always a couple songs that they play differently than their studio versions. so rad!
The main reason I watch these videos is how happy he gets from two songs that I've been listening to my whole life. He was literally crying at the first chorus 🤣
I have seen them 4 times but the one that stands out the most was back in 98. With the drums in particular but with the whole band there seemed to be a lot more improv as far as their playing went. The drum were much different though because Lars only had one bass drum and I could totally tell when he had to change it up from having a true double bass. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend you go see them because every show is better than the last.
You were right about song structure It goes like this (usually) Intro (optional) Intro verse (no lyrics) Verse Pre chorus (optional) Chorus Verse riff (no lyrics-optional) Verse Prechorus (optional) Chorus Middle of the song-could be any of these in any order: Bridge Solo Breakdown End: Final prechorus verse (optional) Final prechorus (optional) Chorus Outro verse Outro (optional)
Enter Sandman is Metallica's Bed Time Lullaby...ever have you heard What IF ? a band made a bedtime song or had that thought befor? Well Metallica did.
kudos to u for noticing the low grumble part tho.. if u want to hear the grumble part with a clear sound.. chck out the enhanced bass or bass only version of this song.. u will hear a lot of interesting sound by cliff's bass unique sound
Alot of the uniqueness of the ride the lighting riff particularly is because the song was cowritten by Dave Mustaine before he was kicked out and formed megadeth. His influence is all over the first 2 metallica albums, and many of the solos kirk plays are near note for note adaptations of daves original solos. Ride the lighting and the four horsemen are the two best examples where it's clearly daves technique and songwriting being beautifully adapted by kirk. I personally like dave more but in the mid 80s Kirk's guitar tone and live performance was untouchable and I love how Metallica fuses these separate identities and gives you such a full and complete musical experience.

Ride the Lightning is about a man getting sent to his death by electric chair. The guitar solo is when he gets electrocuted...
Half right. Enter Sandman is about how children's nightmares FEEL like death to a child.
The low grumble on ride the lightning is the legend cliff burton both his bass
Thanks to my mom, I've been listening to Metallica since I was like 8. These songs are all drilled into my head
I was 12 when they released Kill'Em All. I was already playing guitar for several years at the time. I've been a huge fan ever since that first time hearing them back in 1983.
Sandman- folklore character who brings on sleep and dreams
23:24

All the stuff coming before, its even in Venom music swing if you listen well, Saxon, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Sabbath etc...
It just warms my old ass heart to see the kids getting down to Metallica.

RTL sounds like eerie Mercyful Fate or even early black metal record european sound moody fantasy
@@Nissardpertugiu Ride has a trillion times better production than black metal albums lmao. And yes, I know that's deliberate with black metal.
That thump u hear is cliff on his bass
Along with lars on his bass drum
Sounds kewl as f@@k

1990, wow! I have a son your age. Lol. I saw Metallica in concert a FEW times before you were around. Lol
Metal is composed.

Dude you have the most Interesting understanding for lyrics connecting to the music.
At 23:00 that was actually Cliff Burton doing that grumbling sound on his bass. Cliff Burton was the man. He is the legend! R.I.P Cliff
Echo of the snare with heavy down beat drops is to simulate an empty hall where a man is being marched to his death.
Beginning part of ride the lightning was not using snares, just floor toms
That wah sound you heard in the end sandman solo is called a whammy bar that helps make that sound
Keep being yourself... no disappointments being yourself 😎
Whom the bells tolls by metallica 🎸 🤘

If you listen to the bass drum on the verses it is timed like a heartbeat.
The solo of enter sandman is played using a wah pedal. Which mimics the human voice to a extant

I always love your interpretations on songs
You’re right,sir!wah-wah pedal is inside and Kirk Hammett is the king of excessive wah playing.😎
Enter sandman is about nightmares
not "yea", but "Fuck yea" :D Loved your reaction to this awesome music
Sweet clild o mine and welcome to the jungle PLISSS BRO
Enter Sandman is Metallica's Bed Time Lullaby...ever have you heard What IF ? a band made a bedtime song or had that thought befor? Well Metallica did.
At the end of Enter Sandman…after the last chorus, I think James shouts “Boo” and not “Ugh”
awesome awesome
Im surprised you didn't think it was another singer switching first from black album to ride the lightning
Supposedly the original sandman song was about crib death or something like that. Great catch
the wah sound is a guitar pedal kirk uses he is very know for using it in manyyyyy solos. He also has his signature wah pedal.
PATREONS, SOMEONE PLZ REQUEST WHEREVER I MAY ROAM! PLZZZZZZ
New challenge listen to Metallica until James sings about something horrifying…. It won’t take long… Love them to pieces
Just realised the lightning is an M
Listen to the next song from that Album.. Sad but True,🤘🤘
kudos to u for noticing the low grumble part tho.. if u want to hear the grumble part with a clear sound.. chck out the enhanced bass or bass only version of this song.. u will hear a lot of interesting sound by cliff's bass unique sound
I thought during the solo we were actually riding the lightning getting lit up ⚡️
you should watch the vid on your own time. the vid is excellent
Metal has more incommom with big band & swing
My interpretation of the song was a horror story version of Peter Pan
Nothing else matters
Man where is My Halo On Fire reaction ? It's one of Metallica's most Interesting songs, I wanna hear your thoughts about it.

Dave had nothing do with the RTL solo
May I suggest you listen Megadeth! Holy Wars... The Punishment Due
Here’s holy wars.

I've never cared for Sandman
