Poorly misunderstood sadly.
I mean the dude has killed plenty of creatures/entities when you think about it. Especially in Secret Rings/Lost World.
In Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic promised to never use weapons. Empty promise...
Sonic's character peaked in this game. I love his lines here.

ppl underestimate how unique Sonic's character was back in the day, he was a free spirit and didn't just play the hero, he did what he thought he could do to make other's lives better, he wasn't even that much of a leader, he just didn't follow to begin with. He wasn't a one note funny guy or mainly serious like in Frontiers (great game, great story, it just dialed the characters to being broody all the time with little but existing breaks) , he played the part not only others needed but the ones that he wanted. He was a flat character but a damn good one at that

@@maxrichards3881 they just overboard it, the game didn't need to go that far as to make it the only tone... even games in the franchise with dark tones back in the 2000s had other notes to go on,either action tones or even some comedy. Dial it back a little and its perfect

Technically she did die because if you think about it Merlina and Dark Queen really weren't the same person in the fight. Merlina cameback after Sonic defeated Dark Queen. It's kinda like how Chaos turned good again after Super Sonic beat Perfect Chaos.
You know, this game got Sonic's character down perfectly. Most games he's just a fun-loving, cocky teenager with the mindset of "Gotta Go Fast" which is perfectly fine, but the story of this game actually reveals his beliefs and why he has his mindset. He doesn't give a shit about whether what he does is truly right or wrong, he just believes that everyone should make the most out of their lives-and if anyone tries to impede that, whether it be through slavery, destruction or in this case, taking the drive out of life by making it eternal, he'll stop them, regardless of the cost. So his mindset goes from a simple "Gotta Go Fast" to "Gotta do what I gotta do. Fast."
What's really great though, is that even with all this development, Sonic's still a really fun character in this game like he is in all the others-it doesn't take away from it like what, say, 06 ended up doing.

This is the definition of a good Sonic game.
Sonic's personality is absolutely perfect. The characters are all very well defined and detailed. And the plot itself was exciting and interesting.
My favorite character by far was Sir Lancelot.
Shame everything else is basically horrendous.
And no, the plot was a bunch of poopy garbage.

Eh. Story was fine, music was great, gameplay was trash. This game is definitely not one of Sonic's high notes.
Kinda shows when anyone talks about this game, nine out of ten times, it's about how it portrayed Sonic, which is telling about the rest of the game, that it's overshadowed by Sonic's personality.

I can't help but notice that if you put the band name, All Ends, before the name of the song, you'll get "All Ends With Me". I can't help but find that symbolic towards the game.
I also notice that the way the video title phrases it as “With me by all ends” which sounds like an expression of ultimate camaraderie saying ‘With me no matter what (no matter what ending, or through everything.)
I looked up the band a few days ago. This song fits really well with the rest of what they've made.

This song, well this game in general really shows Sonic's true personality and his morals that you've never seen before. He's cocky and can be arrogant, but never shies from danger or never lets an innocent get hurt, even if that means becoming the 'bad guy'; like defeating King Arthur. "Guess I can't be the hero every time." That one line showed a lot about Sonic that was never elaborated on, which is isn't "I need to be the hero all the time." Its more like, "You're doing something I find immoral or evil, so you're going down!" That's something about Sonic I wish Sega would show more of instead of Roger Craig Smith's Sonic's assholery. Sonic and the Black Knight showed Sonic's heroic side, but also showed his softer, flexible side. That is one of the many reasons that SATBK is my favorite Sonic game, even if it isn't canon.
I'm pretty sure the "Storybook" games (Sonic and the Black Knight and Secret Rings) are canon because they were referenced in Sonic Lost World, which is canon.

Ashton Bridge 100% agree I hope for the loving god the story in forces shows more of his morals. But classic sonic is in the game so I doubt we will. All the more reason modern needs his own games again, because many fans like me and you want to see more of sonic's "doesn't matter if I'm considered good or bad, but I think it's wrong so I'm gonna beat you" side

I like Sonic better as a borderline anti-hero and by borderline I mean doesn't go to far with his actions like say Shadow but Sonic still prefers to follow his own code of honor instead going by the rules and as this game proves Sonic will kill a human villain but only if they're beyond reason and mercy like the corrupted King Arthur and Merlina.

"I am who you don't think I am." As oddly structured as this line is, it captures the plot twist pretty well. It wasn't great, but we definitely didn't see it coming.

You know... I could never figure out why People Hated this Game so much, It had a compelling plot with actually likable Characters, An Unexpected Plot-twist, and an INCREDIBLE soundtrack that Far excels over the Modern Soundtrack in General.
To me, Sonic and the Black Knight was an undervalued Masterpiece of a Game.
Probably the unwieldy controls and dick level design. I don't consider it awful, but I don't find it to be one of my favorites.

The best part about this game was that it deviated from the expectation that King Arthur was the final boss. Instead, a trusted ally becomes the final boss and that’s where Sonic truly took on his Excalibur form to fight her, rather than King Arthur. This fight became personal

The most awesome part of this song is that, at first its seems to be from Merlina's perspective, but if you really examine the lyrics and keep the themes of the game in mind, this song is from Sonic's perspective.
This song is out right stating Sonic is fighting to end the world. There's so much to be deciphered from the lyrics, some of my favorites ones are.

Sonic in this case represents a force of change. He's surprised that she thinks she can really stop him. The next line is telling her to turn away or come face tomorrow with him. There is no implication that she can win, that she can stop change.

They know what the future holds, and its bitter. Merlina needs to savor the night before hand, to remember the good times. Savoring something, however, means you know its fleeting. You don't savor something that lasts forever.
In this case, Sonic is evils might. Regardless of how you interpret Merlina, there's no way you can actually see her as an evil character. She isn't doing anything to hurt the general populace, even if she isn't directly helping them. She just wants to save the world.
And the last line is the most important. Again, it an absolute statement. Merlina will not win. She cannot stop the future, no matter what.
There's a lot of stuff like in this songs lyrics. Its actually pretty amazing.

Sonic and the black knight is actually an amazing game and it's story is just perfect, people say it's bad just because sonic has a sword.
I'm gonna be real, if the game wasn't like secret rings them I think it'd be one of the best games for the wii.

@Extended Long What's wrong with the controls in Colors and Forces (except the 2D Sonic sections in Forces, I feel you there)? Or is it just the speed of it and the boost gameplay isn't really your thing? Not a criticism mind, if that's the case it is a legitimate personal gripe to have, obviously that kind of thing isn't for everyone and is certainly a step-above the 'traditional' pace of Sonic (the Boost gameplay has certainly been Sonic's fastest gameplay incarnation). Just curious.
@Extended Long for me, the issue with black knight was how clunky the gameplay was at times where it was stop and go. If it flowed better without stopping then it would be easily top 3 sonic game

I'm ok with the story concept, but they need to be better designed games than the past two have.
The concept behind the story concepts is quite interesting, in a good way. They just shouldn't change the gameplay for them.
Sega Nintendo Ubisoft For example using Sonic Generations or Sonic Lost World's gameplay mechanics for them?
I've gotta say though, I actually liked Sonic And The Black Knight's swordplay system. Though that's something of a biased opinion, because I really like swords.
The only thing I didn't like about the game, was the relatively high difficulty level of the game overall. Sonic Generations never gave me as much trouble as this game did. Only one minor optional challenge was that difficult.

One of the few Sonic songs where the Crush 40 version isn't better in my opinion.
That's all of them for me. I think Crush 40 does SO MUCH BETTER in their own songs.

When it comes to their other covers I think their version of His World is equal to the original and while the Zebrahead version is good I don't like how the singer sounds so angry in my opinion. Then there's Free and Un-Gravitify which I think their versiond are a million times better than the originals (I don't like the vocals in the original version of Un-Gravitify at all personally because they're so auto-tuned that I can't understand what the singer is saying)

The last sonic game to have a truly amazing story delves really deep into sonics character.
Fun fact: these guitars were performed by Marty Friedman, former guitarist of Megadeth.
And they say Avengers Endgame is the best crossover.
I saw Megadeth recently live! (Sadly without Marty, but they still kicked ass!) They opened for the Scorpions when I saw them, and me and my dad were front and center for it! 🤘
This is one of my absolute favorite moments from Sonic and the Black Knight. This song deeply portrays the main perspectives of both Sonic and Merlina. Always has been a favorite of mine since I was 10 haha

Christopher Llewellyn well not to diminish this badass game, but there actually are clubs and such for midevil swordfighting. Most people don't like Larping (myself included) but if you look for foam fighting there is probably pretty little larp and more actually running around and hitting people.
Whoever comes back to this song is an actual GOAT, this gives me the chills so nostalgic. Sonic Just had the best soundtracks back then.
THIS is the greatest piece in ANY Sonic game. This and the game itself are highly underrated.

I found she was easier than the 2nd King Arthur fight.
But I also wanted some drama so I deliberately drew it out.
Guys at first glance it seems like it's coming from Merlena's point of view but when you really think about it it's actually coming from sonic's it's like sonic said "guess I can't be the hero every time" because he isn't the hero he's the bad guy in the story he's referring to himself as evil dude what are you trying to do? prevent an internal world he realizes it but he's doing it for good he's doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. In fact he even talks about how he said that during the fight damn I love this game it's just so well thought out.
I loved this game. While people would question the fact Sonic is holding a sword, no one questions Mario playing Soccer, Basketball, cleaning grafitti, but Sonic holding a sword is where they draw the line.
The game had so much to offer, with different characters, different play styles, pretty good controls compared to Secret Rings and Zero Gravity and a kickass soundtrack. Wish they'd bring this universe back someday.

I absolutely loved this game. This game is my second favorite Sonic game of all time. I grew up playing Sonic Adventure 2 so that’s my favorite. I miss playing Sonic and the Black Knight. I hope that maybe it’ll be released on switch some day. I mean, it was released on the Wii. Then again Nintendo would have to get the rights to do so.

this song and game feels like a swan song of the dream cast/dark Era having one of the best soundtracks characterization and story's in the entire franchise not the best game but it holds a special place in my heart as the end of the Era of sonic games I grew up with

That was a pretty great game
If it wasn't for the single-console marketing and linear gameplay, this probably would have been leagues more popular than it was. The music was great and the story was actually good. Maybe not great, but it's better than what we get nowadays.

I never even played the game, but this song slaps.
This song and this game in a whole got Sonic‘s character better than pretty much any game after adventure 2.
Even Unleashed.
And I think unleashed is fantastic.
The gameplay may be mediocre, but this is a stand out sonic title for the character writing and songs like this that go well to show it.
You don‘t have to view Sonic as in the right in this game, but you do get to see exactly what he believes in.
And that‘s more than enough.
