I was an early volunteer on the CVL in the mid-'70s. When they made the first raised letter number board for under the headlight for the 1977 season, they discarded the red and gold painted sheet steel one in the scrap metal bin at the roundhouse. I fished it out and asked the engine guys if anyone cared if I kept it. They didn't, and it became the first significant piece of memorabilia I got. I still have it. Like I said, it was just a painted piece of sheet metal, but it means something to me, especially when I see pictures of the engine with it on it, like in this video. Also, I was on that Sept. 20, 1975 Pittsburgh to Brownsville, PA excursion you show the flyer for. The engine was under lease to Steam Tours, which owned Reading T-1 #2102, which I believe the trip was a fundraiser for to pay for repairs to the '02.

The 1960s was the era that brought steam preservation into the spotlight, It was during this time that figures like Ross Rowland, F Nelson Blount and others came to prominence by introducing a new generation of railfans to mainline trips and beyond.

miss the old girl.....we lived in west Akron above Sand Run Park and could hear the whistle as she blew for the Merriman Rd Crossing......When I came home from the Navy in the summer of 1975 my parents arranged for coffee in the back porch where having no idea what was going on was startled to hear a steam engine going by in the valley
