    See the Grand Trunk Western Railroad in their final decade with lots of exciting 1st and 2nd generation EMD diesel power. Volume One starts at Milwaukee Jct. in Detroit and shows you GT trains along their Holly, Mount Clemens, Flint and South Bend sub-divisions. The train action includes lots of auto-racks and hi-cube boxcars for the Michigan Automobile Industry. See the railroad Hot Spot of Durand, Michigan which includes interchanging traffic with the Central Michigan Railroad, plus the magnificent Durand Union Station along with several other historic depots and towers. There is also a segment on contemporary Grand Trunk Western steam with GTW #6325, a 4-8-4 Northern that’s pulling a tourist train. The GT train action includes yard switching, locals, manifests and intermodals plus unit trains of coal and coke. GTW had the most beautiful sounding horns. I lived near GTW tracks for the first ten years of my life. What wonderful memories

    I live in Detroit, Michigan and I remember when Canadian National (CN),had bought out Grand Trunk Western Railroad. I even remember the Detroit, Toledo &Ironton Railroad.

    "Workin' on the railroad.
    I'm a God fearing man, and with many I stand,
    Workin' on the railroad.
    And with God we've been working, all hand in hand.
    Workin' on the railroad."

    I only learnt about GT after my grandfather bought me a couple of O Gauge GP9's I believe. 4543 (powered) and 4540 (non-powered), both with the Canadian National colour scheme.

      Glad you caught the "GT" bug. The GTW 4540 was later rebuilt into GP9R # 4621 by the GTW. The 4621 is shown as a trailing locomotive in our program "Grand Trunk Western Volume One - GT Across Michigan". Here is a link to some great photos of GTW # 4540 and one of the images also has your # 4543 in it too! www.rrpicturearchives.net/LocoPicture.aspx?id=66822

    My daughter lives about 100 feet from the old GT line (now CN) through a little one horse town of Stillwell, IN. Very busy line to this day coming out of Battle Creek, MI through South Bend, IN and on to Valparaiso, IN and finally the big yard in Gary, IN where they make all their Chicago connections.

    Nice video! I love the old Grand Trunk Western, so sad that the CN decided to close the GT down. I do really miss the " Good Track Road"!

      For sure! 100 years of history has disappeared for ever along with other favorites like the DM&IR, WC, EJ&E, B&LE, IC, DWP, CV and others. The last 20 years has seen a lot of change. Thankfully books & videos can help to bring them back to life!

      CN didn't really close it down--- kept what it wanted to operate, and sold/abandoned the rest.

    4432 is currently in the Yard right between Grandville and Grand Rapids along Chicago Dr SW. I seen it on Google maps earlier today and when I watched it go by on your video, I had to share that it is still in fact sitting on rails.

    Did CN Trains BUY the GT trains out of business?

    • @pletsexpress
      @pletsexpress  3 роки тому +1

      Hello Nelson, here is a link from Trains magazine detailing the CN family tree. Short answer is yes, CN did buy out Grand Trunk Western. Follow the link and you will find some interesting history on the GT and several other roads that make up the modern CN system. Thank you for watching and subscribing to our channel.

      not exactly, CN always owned GTW. A long time ago the Original GT went broke, it was then nationalized and became CN, the company's American assets were then turned over to be run by a subsidiary; GTW. When CN was privatized GTW's existence became largely redundant.
