Absolutely fascinating; I’m captivated by your style & the top quality of your video; keep them coming, I’m absorbing knowledge on a subject I didn’t think I was interested in 👏🏻🙏
This was a very well researched and beautifully made video. I had no knowledge of this plant, thank you for the introduction. Only problem is… now I want to grow one. Take care, I look forward to seeing what else your channel has on it.✌️
Such a perfect specimen! The trees are nice too! 🤭 I have planted lots of Lentiscus in my area, and I have a few massive ones on the path to my house up in the mountains. We use their mycelium and top mulch to prep the pistachia varieties we plant for Urban Street Forest, reforesting Spains most arid places. I also have a couple of big Pistachia terebinthus in my gardens and a couple of Pistachia vera (the pistachio nut tree) in another garden I work with. I have just ordered special grafting tools to start to mix it up a bit! 🤗 Pistachia vera are typically grafted on terebinthus rootstock, and can be grafted to Lentiscus as well. A very nice family of trees!
One of these is growing in my neighborhood, and it’s the only one I’ve seen in the entire valley (southern Nevada). I had wondered what it was. I only just identified it using my iPhone, then found this very nice video. Thanks.
Thank you so much, I'm so happy you enjoyed learning about this plant and that you see it in a different light, that's exactly my goal so thanks a lot!!! :)
Köszönöm a szép vídeót!
thank you 🥰 oh I can understand, it's really a lovely plant and very useful. I didn't know it grew in Montenegro but it makes sense so that's useful to know thanks! And for the plant you want to grow honestly, try it out, you might be able to adapt the plant to a colder climate, maybe if you bring it in when it gets cold or protect it. Let me know if you manage, I'd be very interested to see if it works !! 🤗
Truly beautiful peacefull to watch, here in Spain I have one in front of my house, I wondered for a while as to what this tree was, study over time I don't see any videos as to whether the leaves, can be used to give of aromatic smells for example,:if boiled
Very good introduction. But it doesn't only grow in Greece. It's all over Turkey too. And Turkey also produces mastic resign for culinary use. I've both eaten mastic resin desserts and bought some resin while visiting Izmir Turkey.
Loving your educational videos, done with so much charm. Maybe one day I can meet you in Mallorca, as in September I'm hoping to find a house to buy there for permanent residency. My dream is to start a food forest.
There are a few more things to the LENTISCUS tree that are not comonly cnown that can enrich your otherwise exelent video. 1. They grow as a separate sex trees. 2. Only the male tree produses the resin that is the raw ingredien for the gum. On ordos the farmers plase a flat stone beneath the cut on the tree on which the dripping resin is colected. This is the ancient way of colecting it some practice it iven today. Also good to cnow is that the highest quality resin is the one that does not drip on the stone but stays arround the cut on the barc of the tree. 3. Only the female tree grows the red fruits which by the way have a verry strong anti bowel disordrer effect. Bear in mind the fruit is verry potent. Fore this reason only one is consumed. If more than one are consumed they can cause a verry strong constipation. Also the fruit has some other chemicals that are not tocsic but can have a negative side effects in people with sensitive digestive system.
Tis is only the second video I have time to watch I promise I’m gonna watch them all 😂 but let see how good my Latin is after all these years since i was 14 years old learning it 😅….. margarita tua candida pellis tam formosa est, spero te habere hominem vita tua tecum ibi in insula 😅
Τhe mastic tree or lentisk - scientific name: Pistacia Lentiscus var. Chia (of the Anacardiaceae family), is an evergreen shrub, 2-3 metres high that grows very slowly and becomes ready for cultivation after 40-50 years, reaching up to the height of 5 metres at its mature age. Lentisks and similar varieties of this tree family are an essential part of maqui-type vegetation found in Mediterranean countries, but only in Chios and only in its south part, the special characteristics of the ground, the micro - climate and the traditional cultivation finally create such an impressive result and shape the uniqueness of this special resin. Any attempt to extend the cultivation beyond this limit has totally failed.
I love the way you explain in detail about the different types of leaves and leaflets
What a refreshingly good channel! I love it, thank you for the informative videos!
That is a lovely comment, thank you so much you have made my day 🥰
