    As a warning, when you do drop the bolt into your oil pan there is a possibility that it could block the drain hole causing the pan to overflow all over your driveway… this comes from personal experience

    Sometimes I use about a 1/4 quart of fresh oil to wash some of the old oil out before closing the drain bolt. Poured through the valve cover. So I usually buy 6 quarts in totally. I save the other 3/4 quart for later to top off between oil changes if needed. I keep a bottle of radiator fluid, oil, and rags in a 5gallon paint bucket in the hatch for roadside emergencies. Not that I have ever needed to use it.

    It's not really an American car. The Ecotec drivetrain has been used by Opel, a German GM subsidiary for years. The engine first came here in the Saturn Astra. The engine and transmission are manufactured in Austria. Have you had to replace your windshield wipers yet? The arms are another European design and part.

    Thanks mang. I came here to check and see exactly how much oil to put in because I misplaced my book and I am finding conflicting amounts online. I have the same year, Chevy Sonic, but mine has the trunk, not the hatchback. I don't know if that would make any difference. I don't see why it would, but stranger things.... Anyways....any recommends on EXACTLY how much oil? 5 sounds like alot....

    • @MarvelX42
      @MarvelX42 Рік тому

      So, I found out that it's 4.8 quarts. You should try to never put to much in. I don't know how much difference that .2 quarts will make or if it will cause any damage over time, but yeah, 4.8

      I replaced that Torx plug with a regular 1. Still the same plug but the head is more user friendly. I've seen comments of other people not being able to get them to move & stripping the outside edges. I didn't want that headache. Also had a dealer 🛢 change once put the filter in wrong. A few days after that I had to go to a Rapid 🛢 Change & I brought in a Fram filter for them to install. The dealer filter was in many many pieces. No problems with the Fram filter. I have a 1.4 Sonic LT hatchback with the Turbo. B4 that we had a 2012 with no Turbo. As usual the newer car runs better.

      I have a Chevy Sonic 1.4 turbo LT 2014. I have had my car almost a year, and have ALWAYS bought my own oil, and filter. never dexos. Just 5w30 full synthetic. I have never known this, as I am a lady and looked up the oil I need on Auto Zones web site Mostly Only Mobile. Yes my engine is loud kind of, but not abnormally. Rough while in idle. I wonder if this is the reason

      +maddux3us if you still have the nut get some gorilla epoxy and glue it back on if you don't then glue a regular nut to the top using the same epoxy hope that helps.or gives you an idea.

    You say to look for the "Dexos" name on the oil we buy, but never said why we should?
    @5:55 you say to put the oil filter back on and turn it "counter clockwise this way to the right"... That would be clockwise...unless all clocks work differently around me haha
    Its funny how the American Car uses Metric Bolts...

    • @earthscraper69
      @earthscraper69  7 років тому

      +Riley lol you make valid points and the dexos is recommended

    • @wyrtwister4260
      @wyrtwister4260 7 років тому

      GM requires Dexos oil to maintain the engine warranty . All Dexos oil is either full synthetic or synthetic blend . Why wouldn't you wish to use a high quality oil , to attempt to get as many miles out of the engine ? As you possibly can ?
      We own a 2015 Sonic 1.8l automatic . It gets Dexos 5W-30 . And that little cartridge filter .
      Bought 5 - 6 filters from RockAuto , when we first purchased the car . Cheaper than local , even paying freight .
      Check the sales from Advance Auto for specials of 5 quart jugs of Dexos spec oil & free filter for $ 25 - $ 30 . I only buy 100% synthetic .
      Recently NAPA had their synthetic Dexos 5W-30 on sale for about $ 4 a quart . Bought 4 cases of 12 quarts .
      I have found no grease zerks , so nothing to grease .
      So , an oil / filter change with synthetic Dexos cost me slightly less than my Wife had been paying for a dino oil change at the rapid change .
      God bless
