6:11 ...this moment for me is why I am glad I watched this video. I bought an 8mm socket to get those 2 recessed bolts out. Your video saved me a bunch of time and aggravation. and thank you for insisting the engine should be lifted so the pan can clear the oil pressure relief valve.
It wasn't long ago that we didn't pay much attention to torque specs. But now, with cast aluminum blocks and much thinner steel all around, fasteners everywhere approach the limits of failure. Sometimes old habits die hard, ha ha.
Good job ! I've only done two oil pan replacements in my life. They were both older vehicles that had gaskets so no worries about smearing silicone. I hope you had a little talk with the owner about being 2 quarts low on oil.
Admit it, you wanted to steal that steering wheel cover. I always watch a YT video or two before doing something I've never done before or something that's specific to that model. I'm 51 but I'm always open to learning new things that'll make my life easier
It's definitely a good idea to watch a video before doing the job. So you know what you're getting into. Ha! I'm not going to lie those fuzzy steering wheels do feel soft 😁
The thing that was in way was the oil pump feeder. You should also do the timing crank case gasket and timing belt pulleys if you drop the pan. Also pull the battery terminal to reset all sensors and hopefully clear engine check light.
@@themechanic6117 absolutely I know you would its madness 🙄 your videos are always so informative and precise you have helped me replace parts on both cars here keep up the fantastic work it's much appreciated 👏👏👏
What do you think about a used 2011 Chevrolet Cruze 1.8lt with 43K miles for 7.4K USD? Is it worth taking the deal for a daily driver car despite their issues?
I wouldn’t waste my money!! I have a 2011 1.8 and it’s been a nightmare, first the 200$ valve cover was leaking and filling spark plug and cylinder with oil, then transmission lost 2nd gear got by for awhile by putting it in manual and skipping 2nd now it won’t go in reverse and after warms up , then just slips and won’t pull.. just always something wrong with em and that’s alittle high on price, heck new they were what 14k, just a cheap non reliable vehicle
It will start having constant problem as soon as 60k but I managed to get to 150k with my 2014(1.8, bought at 110k) before it became a real shitbox. Now I'm fixing it every other week because I was irresponsible and didn't have any money saved to buy even a used vehicle 🥴

You're welcome. Thanks for the comment
Excellent camera work very good lighting. Appreciate the zooming in and out of the areas. Very educational. Thank you very much for the video.

Definitely. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before a quick oil change place strips the threads on this new pan lol

I made sure to bring up the oil problem with the owner 👍
@@themechanic6117 I was pretty sure you would ! It's amazing to me how many car owners don't even know enough to check their oil regularly .
Way to go!!! Mr. Good wrench.. I also love the new "Chapter separators" lol
Glad you enjoyed. Trying something new with the "sections " of the video 👍

I could tell.... the way you were raw dogging it. Weren't even wearing gloves
Now I have to get checked for the rona 😁
A great video on how to replace an oil pan. Nice one 👍
Thank you. If only all jobs went this smooth lol

Fantastic video
Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing this with me it going to really help me
You're welcome. Good luck
Thank you sir👍
Thanks for watching
I think the job pan out pretty well
Good job, thanks
Best and easiest video thanks 👍
Thank you
Thanks for the video. Gonna pay somebody to do it
In the words of Clint Eastwood (Josey Whales) ah man got to know his limitations
😁👍 knowing is half the battle lol
1st Mistake, buy a Chevy Cruz
2nd Taking it for an oil change at one of those 10min oil scam places.
Definitely lol
Maybe whoever that bought that car it's all they could afford and it's not a difficult fix
Nice and precise Johnathan. I'm thinking that was a 6 hour job .
Thank you Steve, I didn't keep track but I definitely had a good amount of hours put into it. 6 sounds about right
Great instructional video 💯👍
Thank you
Another good Video just one question what was the name of the silicone did you use?
Permatex oil resistant black RTV
What is the long object that obstructed the pan from coming off?
Torque spec is crucial on suspension and engine tranny ! Most mechanics sont bother because they wanna move on to the next job..
That's true , always trying to beat that book time
All of THAT... just to take off the PAN.... WOW!!!
Great job as usual but why on earth would someone not replace the oil and filter omg 🙄 regards from Dublin City Ireland 🇮🇪
I guess it wasn't in the budget . I would have rather changed the oil also. 👍

do you happen to know the Oil Pan Bolts length? It's E10 but im not sure the lengh. Thank you!
Sorry I don't. Best thing you can do is remove one of the easy ones to measure it.

If you buy it expect to start fixing the same problems over and over.

Need you as my mechanic 😭
Why is it every car you work on as a engine light💡 on, is it compulsory 😆😆😆
As long as the car keeps driving they don't care what light is on lol
