If you noticed, the old tube was inserted about 1/4 inch. That is how to keep the capiallary sized tube from getting soldered shut. When you are done and it has cooled a bit, blow in the end to see if your breath goes in or not. Just sayin!
I know this video is old, but I'd like to point out that Sporlan's instructions for the location of the equalizing tube is downstream of the sensing bulb. The installation of this bulb was incorrect, as it was upstream of the bulb. Also, the bulb and tube should be installed on a horizontal run. The tube should be installed on the top of the horizontal run, and the bulb should be installed at the 3, 9, 4 or 7 o'clock positions on the horizontal run. Sporlan's instructions.
Hello Craig. Thank you for the video. I have a question. Can I cut the external equalizer, And braze the capillary port off? I've bought the TXV and planning to install it on my 4-ton system. r22. But I check the evap coils and there is no port to put the equalizer. One man told me that if I don't have a port on the evap coils for the external equalizer I can cut and braze it off. Is that correct? How it will affect the TXV. He did that on his house and it works fine. Maybe better to buy TXV without an external equalizer. Thank You.
Techs tend to make a big deal of this but I have seen quite a few manufacturers with preinstalled txv's have the order of the bulb and external equalization line flip flopped with no problem. usually the equalizer tube is downstream of the bulb, thanks!
i like the flare idea. i had a really hard time brazing in the E tube recently because it was inside the cabinet near the pan and i was burning the pan. maybe i should have slid the coil out

That means that the bulb has a partial charge only. It doesn't have enough to open the valve enough during normal operation so confirmation it is a bad txv, thanks!
That was an A6 or A8. The tip needs to be big enough to heat the large pipe as well but keep the heat back from melting the external equalization tube. Thanks Pops McCartney!
Exactly! You won't know until you run the system. That is why I tell students and techs to practice this procedure with just a piece of tubing that is open that they can test afterward before trying this in the field, thanks
Man this video is exactly what I was looking for. Its the only helpful video on yt on this. Thanks again for all the info and knowledge!!

Equalising line after phial bulb. Compressor side.Always use 1/4” copper for equalising line as sometimes people use capillary and they can block up.
this guy was awesome very good!
Thank you very much! I am glad you enjoyed the video!
very nice presentation!!!
Very informative and useful.
Glad to help!
Absolutely great video good helpful tips,Keep them coming and thank you
Thanks Scotty!
How about a video showing the best way to replace a heat pump reversing valve ?

Nice work
What happens if you crimp or block the equalization tube? What will my pressures look like?

Do the distance between sensor bulb and equilizer line; and location on the suction line (which one should be close to evaporator) matter? thank you
Techs tend to make a big deal of this but I have seen quite a few manufacturers with preinstalled txv's have the order of the bulb and external equalization line flip flopped with no problem. usually the equalizer tube is downstream of the bulb, thanks!
Can we close the external equalizer point..What will happen
Thanks
Thank you!
How far Should capellary go into the pipe
1/8" to maybe 1/4" just so you dont have the braze get pulled up into the hole in the end of the tube by trying to braze it in, thanks!
Can you cut the equalizer tube and use a coupling and insert the new tubing then braze it?
Absolutely, I have done it before but you get one shot at it to get in and out quick in order to not clog the cap tube, thanks

What if all symptoms look like TXV, high superheat, high subcooling, low suction... yet when you put TXV bulb in warm water Superheat does drop?
That means that the bulb has a partial charge only. It doesn't have enough to open the valve enough during normal operation so confirmation it is a bad txv, thanks!
can you install a 3 ton carrier coil on a 3 ton payne or is there some sizing that has to be done
Certainly but you need to make sure the metering device is for 3 ton and that the building's heat load will be handled by 3 tons of ac, thanks!
TYVVVM
What size tip are you using ?
That was an A6 or A8. The tip needs to be big enough to heat the large pipe as well but keep the heat back from melting the external equalization tube. Thanks Pops McCartney!
What if you plug the external equalizer
Exactly! You won't know until you run the system. That is why I tell students and techs to practice this procedure with just a piece of tubing that is open that they can test afterward before trying this in the field, thanks
I think they use copper cause it conducts the heat too
Yes that is possible. Some manufacturers will supply stainless but most are copper, thanks!
Why where you not using nitrogen while brazing that?
This was just an in the shop testing coil I used for teaching, thanks!
