Megumi Ishitani is an absolute beast of an animation director. This wasn't an episode. This was a 20 minute feature film. It is unironically absolute cinema.

@@anonisnoone6125the difference is the disparity between the mangas quality and the anime, the one piece manga is easily the greatest manga of all time and the anime should reflect that but it doesn’t, I personally love the anime but there’s clear pacing issues and sound design issues hence why they’re remaking fishmen island, other anime are usually on par with their manga and even better
It is kinda crazy how the One Piece Anime staff still managed to drop fantastic episodes this year while having the "Fan-Letter" (+ ending) & the "Fishman Island remaster" (+ending/opening) taking resources away at the side while creating these fantastic episodes this year

My favorite anime is probably gintama, but I will say, this was probably the best piece of anime I've ever watched. I think it was better than the OP movies too.
I think we can thank Demon Slayer and ufotable for the shift in the new age anime when it comes to animation, they showed how much more money can be made when you throw a passionate group of people into a show and deliver top notch quality and toei saw that and started cooking. If you watched anime 10-15 years ago you wouldn’t even think something like the current one piece is possible.
I loved this so much! I think my favorite was the older Marine brother. I loved that his love of Luffy was so personal. I loved the girl too. I loved that we never got a clear shot of the Straw Hats, except for that one fan of Brook’s but she’s a fan of Brook the singer, not Brook the pirate and she wouldn’t connect to who Chopper is.
Idc what anyone says one-piece fan letter is literally better than 90% of post time skip one piece. It was beautiful and captured the magic of pretime skip one piece effortlessly in 18 minutes. It's the same reason why we all love the anime only seens with garp and kuzan's back story in the revent episodes. We wanted Oda to dive deep in those character relationships and he just glossed over it. Where was the marineford arc all these years? We could've gotten a fleshed out story about koby, Garp, helmepo and all the other marines that would have made all the current events in the anime more emotionally impactful. Where was Zorro's character development in Wano? Why didnt he get somethings? Why is usopp still a meme with no decent character development arc? Why did we side line franky and chopper to props? Why was kaido such a bad villain? Literally give him a few pages for a back story. One piece upsets me because all the pieces are there for a great story (pre time skip it was imo), but for some reason Oda lost the magic in trying to juggle tge .assive world building task. The story got too big, too outlandish, and too cliche with the whole chosen one/demi god angle. (The best arc imo was whole cake island, it had everything you would want tension because the enemies are threatening, character development, fun waky antics and good pacing). The other arcs moved too far away from it being about the crew's interactions with each other than crazy theories and world building. (Doflamingo and law's backstory were also peak one piece). Fishman island, punk hazard, the first half of dressrosa and wano were all pretty bad to me. Never felt fun to read or watch. When i got to Zoa and whole cake it felt like old one piece and it was amazing. I would prefer an entire spin-off series about common folk and the marines instead of a reanimation of the post time skip arcs. I want one piece to use that frieren tactic again, where the story is a adventure slice of life about the characters 1st, a world building story 2nd and a battle manga last.
I don't know, but this feels like one piece pre-timeskip in it's prime, and basically one piece in it's prime but with the jujutsu kaisen time slot, meaning peak, one piece had a bar for stories and uniqueness and things like this hit or surpass that bar, again we've been eating soo good we're basically obese at this point
People would axtually die from overwork trying to keep this quality up weekly. Chibi it would have to schedule to a seasonal schedule for this to work, with massive time gaps in between
This is not just for the anime. There is also the manga, Bocchi also made some one-shots about Ace thatvare very good. Thev world and history of One Piece is so vast and complexe, that many stories like these could exist between the main adveture.

I'm ok with that cause we got a lot of professionals at Toei who are fans of the manga/anime, so you can see that it is made with love. Episode of the year indeed‼️‼️ Direction, animation, composition, use of music, pacing... Perfect episode 10/10
they didn't realize that One Piece is a gold mine, they already knew it and didn't do anything for years. Recently Vincent mentioned in an interview that by the end of WCI, anime staff realised just how much money OP was making and yet they didn't get much money from higher-ups and were basically producing trash. After that they asked for more money to produce Wano and then the rest is history.
Stories and perspectives like this make a showed goated. Like a story I wanted to was *whatever happened to the guy that asked Roger where the one piece is before his death?, did that guy become a legend, fugitive, pirate or just back to normal life because technically without him... MightNo pirate era, so a story and perspective in that pov would be great or previous users of DF that we know of anything of that sort works very well
Remember. This was technically filler. One piece is so dense with its world building that you can honestly make some good stuff if you put the effort in. The team did for this

Anime fans can not help but worry about the animators because the latter are known for being overworked and underpaid. Kyoto Animation are no good either because it was reported that they pay young women differently, rather than paying employees based on their given job.
The people in the animation department looked at the remake of one piece and said we can go beyond and they did can't wait for the Fish man Island arc with updated animation next episode thank you Toei for this beautiful episode and love letter to us one piece fans also the jp straw hat crew singing at the end was fantastic

This is what One Piece fans deserved and wanted, and they DELIVERED. THIS was absolute PEAK. It made me tear up like 4 times.
