This is neat -- the concept of practicing performing reminds me of how astronauts prepare for EVAs. They run through the entire thing in excruciating detail so that there are as few unfamiliar sensations as possible when they actually have to open the airlock and get to work.
I as a guitarist have tried to understand the psychological component to effective practicing and to hear men like this speak about approaches to how to focus, practice, and duration is just what I needed to hear.

Nice interview. Just a tip, id recommend not speaking over your interviewee when he's talking and constantly acknowledging what hes saying
