Honestly the way to look at it is that every time you hit some one twice you kill off a health chuck. That is as literally the equivalent of downing them. When there is no event going on this is devastating. Plus it tends to make people angry when you keep setting them on fire.
Also just setting someone of fire puts pressure on people since they WILL want to put it out. Some times all you really need to do is set them on fire and let them run

@@chocolateztnot so sure about that. They are planning with the engine update around April. Pretty sure they wont start a new Event before that. But that's just my personal guess.
Tbh. I don‘t think it even takes two DB hits to burn a chunk. I think one where 2 pellets hit will already burn of a small bar.
I played around alot with special ammo, but either my ideas arent good, or I am too bad to make them work :D
But maybe they would work for you:
- Sparks (poison) / Sparks-Pistol (poison) + Chainpistol (FMJ & Fanning) / Winnie (FMJ & Levering): Tag with poison, then kill through the wall with FMJ. Combo with poison-sense, Hivebomb & beetle.
- Concertina-Bow + Long-Ammo (Spitzer or FMJ): Create concertina-barriers during the fight, that are less of a problem for you. Combo with Concertina-mine & Heavy Knife.
- (Short) Springfield (poison/expl) + Grenade-Bow: Use explosive-ammo to open windows & doors , tag with poison (they cant heal and will seek cover) -> then bomb them. Combo with Ammo-Box.
- Rival-Handcannon (Flechette) + Combat-Axe. Make them bleed, then charge them like a madman.
- Sun & Moon (Specter + Uppercut), but use Specter with Flechette as medium-range weapon.
- (Short) Drilling (Dumdum & Flechette) + UpperMat (basic & Slugg): Use Drilling in the open and Uppermat for Wallbang.
Also dont forget that Dragon Breath can now set fire to dead hunters. This can be good if you want to free up a tool slot, but if you're considering Dragon Breath for just that, Id suggest bringing a Lemat with Dragon Breath or Starshell. Dragon Breath for killing potential, or if you're sick of whiffing that shot that was supposed to save your life, Starshell for accurate ranged body burns. The extra ammo for your Winny and decent fanning potential doesnt hurt either.
Good work as always Labs. I like the emphasis on your kit helping your team's overall success over focusing exclusively on securing kills yourself. Support rolls are fun
I meant to mention that! I had a clip in there burning a hunter, but I was in a slow part of the fight and I cut it out with that by mistake. :(
I wish the devs would bring back the original alamo cycling animation. The old one felt much better than the one we have now

My off meta loadout is a Hunting Bow and a Combat Axe. It leaves me underpowered in most engagements, forcing me to think critically and play much scrappier than usual and I love it.

This was my Main before katana appears, i put the Axe aside and in console melee is very strong. I wish other Melee weapons get some Specials traits too like a rampage mode with axe where you get % DMG reduction or something i also use frag arrows theyre very op especially with an MH ironside explo ammo 😅
I discovered this last event myself and now a romero with half buckshot and half dragon's breath is one of my go to shotguns
When im close to prestige and have money to burn i go to my quad Dolches loadout. Since im just close/mid range it changes my playstyle and you have 40 rounds loaded at the start of a fight! As a bonus you get to see if the guy who kills you picks up your goofy loadout Since its expensive.
I just got destroyed by a dualies dolch last night :( first two bullets hit me.

As a trio we had fun with all running terminus dragons breath and lemat with db to keep all enemies burning
I use the specter for this style of play works for aggressive playstyle really well
Fire Wizard: use Romero 77 with Dragons and Starshell. Have crossbow secondary with Dragons and chokes. Take medkit, knife, decoy gunfire/fuse or a flare gun, alert trip mines for flavor. Then for equipment, one hellfire, one liquid fire, one fire beetle, one ammo box (you’re gonna need it). Use starshell on downed bodies to make sure you are burning as much as possible, Romero already sets on fire with 40 meters but crossbow helps follow up secondary burning blasts. Liquid fire for still targets or targets who are in water (nobody is safe from the fire). The build lacks in one thing and that’s solo potential, if your teammates go down before you burn off chunks it is incredibly hard to make plays. You could potentially replace choke bolts for regular or poison bolts while then replacing a tool with chokes, but I prefer cashing all in on the fire theme.
A gun I’ve found an insane amount of success with is the terminus handcannon. I’ll usually take it with some kind of rifle in my main slot with the use of quartermaster.
What makes the terminus hand cannon so good is the flexibility of it when used with levering and the magazine size. I’ve one shot with this gun many times but if I want to have some fun any of the special ammo options have also served me well.
I barely see this gun get used and it’s in my opinion one of the most criminally underrated shotguns in the game and my go to out of any of the hand cannon variants.
The Romero hand cannon has one shot so you’ve gotta make it count and since it’s barrel is shorter the spread is worse than it’s full length alternative. The rival hand cannon is good but two tapping usually only confirms one kill or at the most gives you two kills, the Spectre hand cannon has the same issue as it’s full length cousin plus a short barrel .., it’s slow as all hell.
The terminus hand cannon with levering has a spread that although not perfect serves brilliantly in compound in conjunction with levering, its 6 shot magazine gives you plenty to shoot and due to levering it’s rate of fire is insane.
All of these bonuses plus you can still bring a rifle for long distance
A Terminus with flechette and levering is a very potent combo at close and mid range and can harass enemies at long range as well.

My off meta, but very fun loadout is terminus with fleschettes. Not as good up close but pretty good 15-20 meters away
I tried this a few weeks ago with terminus. Insanely fun. Lately though, I have been loving the Specter with Flachette + a Dolche Deadeye FMJ (What can I say, I love the Han Solo Gun, but probably substitute for whatever sidearm you're comfy with). The hipfire reticle on it is so insanely tight and can two tap very reliably much further than you'd expect. Comparable to the range on the terminus just without the slow db speed. It's just with these custom ammo types, you got to remind yourself to not try to trade with shotguns because there are so many situations where you might expect a trade but you go down because they're using slugs or buckshot.
I run hand crossbow with the one dragon bolt. I could either use a shotgun, rifle, or pistol with fire ammo. Before I bust into a boss lair with players I sometimes get on the voip and say “need a light?!” And chaos ensues.
the loadouts fine if your not very good at fps's since it doesn't require a lot of accuracy, so it'd be good for new players to learn the game and serve a more "supportive" role in the team.
to make it a bit more practical i'd say stick with standard romero with half bs and half db since dragons breath doesn't do much to people already on fire. lemat can get db so you can use that to boost your total ammo a bit and its probably the best on paper compact pistol in the game now.
at the end of the day oppression wont get you very far if you cant consistently kill your enemy

I feel like the shotgun custom ammo is very much overlooked. I'll sometimes bring a shotgun with flechettes when my team has long ammo to capitalize on body shots. You can also do this combo yourself easily by bringing a sparks and a flechette shothun. Overall don't like custom ammo but it's actually a lot of fun on shotguns
Idk if its exactly off meta but krag fmj + romero dragon breath / half dragon is really fun and surprisingly effective
Alamo DB has been a main off meta for me. The sparks pistol with half fmj pairs pretty well with it, extending its one tap and penetration capabilities. Although difficult to use at times, I find it a very fun way to enjoy dragons breath.
I’m not sure if you take requests, but I’d really like a video going over what pennyshot actually does, and why you might use it.
I’m in the middle of a massive project where I’ll be covering all custom ammo. It will most certainly be in there. In the meantime, the UA-camr Cornf has a great video on it.

Dual pistols are the only weapon type that I currently feel like I’m using “wrong”, so a general strategy guide of when to engage, and where they really shine, would be very useful for me.

My favorite "odd" loadout is bomb lance with steel ball and frag and poison hunting bow, if you have quarter master. It's ABSURDLY well rounded for any situation, close quarters? its practically a shotgun with the steel ball and insanely good melee damage, zoning someone out? Artillery them with frag charges. Got a sneak up on someone? Shoot 'em with a poison arrow and watch them panic trying to stop bleeding and not be able to heal. Honestly the one place it loses is when you have a crackshot sniper pinning you down. Other than that 10/10.
Ive been using the cent with dumdum ammo…. And my offhand being the crossbow with poison and dragonbolt.
Knuckles, medkit, choke, conc trap.
1 vit, 1 regen, 1 hive, 1 ammo box.
This loadout been carrying me. So much utility. Went from 3 star to 6 star in a few days. From 4k cash to 30k cash.
The mix of poison, bleed, or hive on them first while their in cover(shooting at the ground while their trying to corner peak) then chase them down with dumdum, theyll either bleed out, or your shot will instantly kill them. Works so well
Yeah that's a great loadout. I've been using the exact same one, except for consumables. I'd definitely get an antidote shot. Poison is absolutely great against almost any AI, and if your hunter is new, 2-3 poison bolts is anough to kill a meathead, granting you bonus xp and a chance to get a free perk.
And as of last update you can burn bodies with dragonbolts, so the utility of the handcrossbow went even higher.
@@squeezyjibbs6643 Exactly why i carry the crossbow. The Crossbow is MOSTLY for AI/Bosses/Tool instead of the PVP. Yes I can use the poison to deny door/windows with poison cloud, or use the fire arrow to burn bodies, but the poison bolt for armored husks(barbed ones too), immolators, packs of hellhounds, or using it on Scrapbeak, assassin, butcher, is so handy.
Sometimes i swap out for the silenced born,with dumdum as well, its fun. But when i do, i swap out my traps for flaregun so I can continue to burn bodies from a distance and apply pressure on the other team to force a play.
you know what is funny?, yesterday i played for like 6 hours, at the end i was really trying to do 2 daily mission where i had to do damage with any variant of romero and had to kill dogs with fire damage, i decided to use only a recorded romero with fire ammo in a free hunter to end my 6 hours of gaming and the missions, ended winnig the match with 4 kills and the bounty
i only wanted to end the missions to do the 8000 xp pact (it gave me a very disapointing 180 dollars btw), but the match was gold, early i found a short cadwell, i killed a hunter by hitting him with the fire romero at 35mt or so only to throw a dinamite in the place he hided, and later found a pump shotgun with bayonete, amaizing match
Dragonsbreath romero is incredible man. I use it with a hunting bow or the sparks pistol for the easy one taps
Idk if “red and yellow barrels are just an extension of yourself” is supposed to be a joke but I got a good laugh out of it. Great dry wit.
Regular romero is similarly effective and cheaper. If you're going regular romero you might also want to split buckshot for more close range effectiveness when you need it.
I love terminus dragons breath and UpperMat with dragons breath. It’s a good time when I’m getting shit kicked and just want to inflict pain
I usually use the sparks pistol with the alamo, because of the ability to one tap them out of the game
Terminus + Dragons Breath + Levering is insanely fun. We call it the flamethrower and use it to just generally be a menace in the bayou
I've been playing with a similar loadout to this (dragon specter + regular uppermat), and I have some recommendations on shotgun choice.
ADS is extremely important for DB and imo should be used almost any time you're shooting an energy. The spread is tight (at least for the usable weapons) and the projectile is VERY slow, so the large crosshairs make things more difficult than they do for buckshot.
That's why I think iron eye specter is the best shotty for DB; of the usable ranged DB shotguns (romero variants and long specter ONLY, everyone else barely does anything), specter has the fastest RoF and lets you suppress enemies much better than the alamo. Hitting an enemy twice is no joke, and getting to shoot sooner after missing (which happens a lot from the slow velocity) helps a ton.
Terminus has high spread and gets really poor distance, so it sadly doesn't really work even with levering. At the ranges where you're burning more than a bar per hit you could just be one-shotting with a slate. I want to use levering DB terminus so much but it just isn't real :(
Edit: another big thing to consider is the damage of your secondary. Ideally, you should be looking to soften your opponents up for a one-shot once you're in a better position, and something that can do that with only a bar down will be much more consistent. Uppercut is probably the best secondary here (without quartermaster), though sparks pistol is an intriguing option. I was a little surprised you used the pax, since, as you showed in the video, you had to shoot someone twice even after burning them.
levering terminus dragon breath is so funny to me
I had thought about this concept a couple weeks ago. Tried it for a few rounds, but not enough for conclusive data on whether or not I enjoyed it. I'll have to give it a second shot after this when I can get a squad (I don't think it's as viable solo, but for a team I can see this being nasty)
I dunno if the new rival dragonbreath is bugged but for some reason I've dealt a total of 42 damage with 8 shots that hit enemy hunters on less than 20 meters range. Then again i remember trying dragonbreath on even a lemat carabine and it was way better.

i love using flechette ammo. kinda sad how they are overshadowed by slugs when it comes for acuracy and dmg. But it's a great pressure tool and most importantly fun. At least for me. I find slugs really boring to play with, would be better if not every shotgun had it, so there could be room to shine for other ammo types
Dragonbreath is my favorite ammo, I love the visual and the "emotional damage" it can deal to hunters.
From experience, it work best with the specter and terminus (with levering), the romero simply work fine, still slow.
For the medium shotgun, this is important to note that they have a range of 25 meter while the terminus is the only one (and the lemats) to reach 40 meters, but past 25m it rarely set on fire on first hit and the damage drop significatly down to 10~ damage at 40 meters.
The lemat is a weird case for dragonbreath, despite featuring a 150 spread, this is actually worse. I somehow set on fire 2 dummies that were on the left and right of my actual target.
Similary for the saw off terminus, it doesn't set on fire past 25 meters but still fly to 40 meters.
One weird loadout I could ask you to try is to use a lemat dragonbreath with a spark with fmj. Theorically, after the spark hit, the lemats should down your target, or you shoot the dragonbreath first and use the spark right after.
I tried this on Spectre and it also great and fun, a lot of fun, and if someone is really close like under 7 meters you can one hit kill him.
I think my favourite off meta loadout is either a very similar one to this (Terminus and silent bornheim both with fire ammo and a lot of fire throwables)
Or my "Peashooter's Delight" which is the nagant precision poison ammo and bornheim match incendiary"
For this built, the only weakness is the choke bomb , all fire ammo can't traver through the choke bomb
Fire ammo outside of dragonbreath still goes through de choke bomb, it remove just the fire effect

Second i would have loved if there was some info looking into if its true that a good shot were close to all pellets hit burns away a big chunk and a semi good shot half the pellets takes away a small chunk?
also why the romero, dosent the specter have a tighter spread with dragonsbreath compared to the romero??

I stopped using alamo when they've changed the reload animation. The old one was confusing at 1st but after 2,3 rounds it made sense, this now... I just can't get used to it.
not a custom ammo loadout but almost every game i dont have a specific plan i use bow and katana with martialist, and play incredibly aggressively

Okay, is it just me, or is anyone else annoyed by how much the Alamo got nerfed. I was watching old videos of when it first came out, and its actually usable. Almost every time i use it nowadays the cycle time is so long i always die because of it. Idk, i just remeber being super excited about it when it first came out. Nowadays its probably my least favorite shotgun :(
I know this is about dragonsbreath but I have had some serious work done also with the Spectre Flechette (non-bayonet. I always thought it was common knowledge the variant shortened the barrel). You do some disgusting damage out to some silly ranges.
Though going to have to give this a whirl. Though I will skip on the Alamo, I do feel they need to refine the guns cycling animation to being something worth using over a standard romero.
You'd be surprise how much 'common knowledge' people don't know. I've gotten a lot of comments on my deep dives like "I've been playing for 1k hour, and never knew this basic thing!!"
There's just so much in this game that you can overlook. There's also quite a bit that isn't clearly indicated like which guns you can fan with or that there's a 'medum' length shotgun barrel. A lot of stuff you can only find by reading the (what I originally though was) flavor text, patch notes or dev talks. A lot of casual players will miss those details.
It's ridiculous that a shotgun can make hitmarker at that distance... 30 or more meters
Flechette in the specter can hit at 80

Does it have the same range with handcannons?
I haven't done detailed testing for dragonbreath yet. I'll be doing that on an upcoming livestream. My spreadsheet has 25m for the specter compact, so no hancannons are shorter. I'll be going into more specifics in the research livestream.
cant u just do long ammo incendiary for same range to burn and more damage from far?
Dragons breath burns health more, you can literaly burns a small health chunk from one shot.
Why Romero Alamo and not Specter? Does it do more damage or have more range? Or is it just for the cheaper price?

Remember the other night in your stream when you were testing Flechette and I said “Dragon’s Breath is greater than Flechette?” Well.. it looks like you took my advice 😎 Also, if you want to test it the Specter Bayonet had the best hit chance to set players on fire due to its spread pattern.
