    You know Bordeaux like the back of your hand, John! Such a treat to watch this video! Some of my favorite producers, for sure, and your overview on each of them is so insightful and so excellently presented-reflective of your expertise and experience when it comes to everything Bordeaux. I also appreciated your tasting notes as well as the back stories. Excited about the 2023 Chateau Pichon Lalande, Brane-Cantenac, Giscours, Beau-Sejour Becot, Domaine de Chevalier, Phelan Segur, and Laroque-okay, every single one of them!😅 Thank you for making this video! It’s incredibly impressive! Such a valuable reference and guide for all Bordeaux enthusiasts and collectors. It’s absolutely the most authoritative Bordeaux 2023 guide-but I can say that for all your other Bordeaux videos as well! I can’t wait to revisit my favorite wine region (tied with Rhône!😁)! Cheers, John!

      Merci beaucoup, Margaux! Between this video and part 1, I think I have 2023 covered now. Part 1 was important due to the timing, but then they released so many more excellent wines I had to do a part 2! Very glad you enjoyed it!

    I agree with Mr. Attorney Somm, all of the wines that he is recommending are exceptional in quality and are available at affordable prices. Mr. Jackson is a true champion of Bordeaux wine! My personal cellar is and will continue to be getting many of his excellent recommendations.

    Great list John ! I certainly jumped in and bought a case of Paviemac , a few bottles of Rauzan Segla, and 6 bottles of La Conseillante. I have so many Laroque from 2018 and 19 vintages that I just dont know if I should load up from 2023. Have a great week ahead!

    Thanks, John. As I think I mentioned on your first 2023 video, it is purely of academic interest to me - but of interest nonetheless. I made the decision that 2020 would be my last claret en primeur vintage but 2022 was so universally praised that I relented and bought a couple of right bank half-cases.
    For current drinking, I have just taken delivery of half cases of Angludet, 2014 and Puy Blanquet, 2015 from my stocks. These will sit alongside other, mainly CB, 2014s and 2010 Pomerols for current drinking. Special occasion Bordeaux include, Durfort Vivens, 2005 and Branaire-Ducru, 2005. I don't think I will be running short of drinkable claret anytime soon!

      Thank you! Definitely sounds like you are well stocked! I try to include comments re: older wines from these producers I enjoy too. The 00 Pacie Macquin, for example, I had last week and it was terrific. The 05 Montrose was very nice too.
      Glad that the 00 and 05 vintages are starting to show well more consistently.

    Fully agree on the Pavie and Chevalier. What are your thoughts on the Les Carmes?

    • @AttorneySomm
      @AttorneySomm  3 місяці тому

      Thanks! Great question! I included the potentially triple 100-point 2022 Les Carmes in my similar video for 2022 Bordeaux. While that one costs more than the 2023, I'd buy the 2022 instead. The 2023 is also a nice effort at a lower price point, but not necessarily a legend in the making.

    Great video as always John. Big fan of most these wine myself. Always appreciate your insight and the way you provide brief back story of each winery. I have started collecting for about 2 years and as we drink more we now know we prefer aged wine. The problem i have now is my 260 btl fridge is 90% 2015 or younger. I m planning to buy more 2000ish (didnt know pre arrival existed before) vintage for immediate or near term consumption. That, plus additional current vintage for long term. I m deciding between getting another fridge and keep everything at home, or offsite storage where i ll store younger wines there. Another fridge is probably more convenient for me but i m afraid i ll run into the same issue again later on. I m 48 so pretty long runway. Any suggestion from your experience is appreciated.
    Also if you dont mind me asking. Did you run into the same scenario, ie if your home cellar is full, and you always want to buy more wine 😁, what would you do.

    • @AttorneySomm
      @AttorneySomm  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks very much! Very glad you enjoyed the video and appreciate the feedback!
      Yes, absolutely re: storage. I filled my cellar in 2 years with mostly wine that needed more aging. I ended up buying more fridges and stand-alone units but also have some offsite. I definitely bought some older bottles as well as cellar defenders that can be enjoyed close to release (CdP, Rioja, Champagne, certain Pinot) to tide me over a bit until my original purchases were ready to start enjoying.

    John- I’m still learning about terminology. Can you perhaps clarify about the usage of the preposition “to” when you say the “vineyard is planted TO 50% merlot….” Why don’t you say, “with” instead? I noticed you say that a lot.

    • @AttorneySomm
      @AttorneySomm  4 місяці тому +1

      Great question! There may be other reasons as well, but my understanding is that "planted to" implies more of a deliberate and thoughtful choice of a specific variety or varieties based on the suitability of the soils, climate, and other environmental factors whereas planted with is a more general term.

    • @AttorneySomm
      @AttorneySomm  4 місяці тому +1

      I have a video on the 2022 vintage as well. That is considered to be one of the truly outstanding (but warmer) vintages like 2009, 2016, 2018, etc. Due to the loft expectations and excitement surrounding 2022, the pre-release prices were relatively high for those wines but certain wines have the potential to be truly special and in many instances perhaps even better than vintages like 1982.
      I explain the 2023 vintage more in the first 2023 Bordeaux video I published two months ago. At a high level, it was more of a classic, cooler vintage and the wines will have higher acidity and lower ABV. Think of 2001 as a comparable. Also, prices are quite a bit lower for the 2023 pre-releases than the 2022 pre-releases.
