I only bought one single bottle of 2020 Chateau Laroque.....but it is an imperial !!! Have so many 2018 and 19s I decided to buy only the 6 liter size. I also went all in for the 2022 of Laroque. The best to you John, have an excellent 2024 !!!!!!
Glad to hear it! Hope that you enjoy them as much as I do! Happy New Year!
You found a 6 L bottle of Laroque?
@@pjyothi6533 yes, bought it about a year and a half ago at Zachys and was delivered a couple of months ago. $350 plus about $100 for next day shipping
Hello John
Thanks for spending the effort … and time (on your vacation) to share with us another set of outstanding selections.
(To me)… you have one of the most refined pallets on UA-cam. So thanks.
*** WISHING YOU A HAPPY NEW YEAR***
Thanks very much! So glad you enjoyed it! Truly appreciate the support! Happy New Year!
Thank you John for putting these extremely informative videos, I have learned quite a bit from(the School of Hard-knocks side), as my WSET diploma coming to the end(one last exam left, D4), I am still lacking knowledge on the practical side(need to build up my knowledge on the various producers from around the world), looking forward to your future videos.
Thanks very much! Glad the videos are helpful! Good luck with your studies! I tackled the beast last as well.
Great recommendations! Extraordinary wines.
Thank you! Appreciate the kind feedback! Cheers!
Thanks for the video, John. I attended a 2020 Bordeaux tasting here in Dallas a few months ago. Of the 20-some wines offered, my four favorites were Chateaus Valandraud, Ducru Beaucalliou, Pichon Lalande and the amazing Haut Brion. Many impressive wines from that vintage and these picks represent more my stylistic preference than anything. It also showed me how more and more wines can be drunk at a young age, even Bordeaux wines! While very tight initially, the Haut Brion blossomed after a few hours of air. Happy New Year!
Thank you! Very much agree. I enjoyed the 2020 Pichon Lalande a few weeks ago as well. Cheers!
When is the next tasting!?
@@Yeoldelole Think he’s talking about a Pogo’s tasting. You can sign up for their list on their website I believe.
Ive done it! Much appreciated my good sir, and fantastic video. @@AttorneySomm
@@Yeoldelole Excellent! Thank you!
One of your best must-haves videos, great recommendations
Thanks very much! Appreciate the kind feedback! 👍🍷
Great video. Nice recommendations and some good, interesting info attached. Unfortunately at 57 I’m no longer buying Grand Cru Classe Bordeaux post the 2015 vintage. I do have a decent amount of 2018’s with fingers crossed. Over the holiday we opened up a 2000 Lynch-Bages and it was nowhere near approachable. That’s scary.
Thanks! Yes I understand. I have found that vintages like 2009 (and 2018, 2022) are warmer and the wines are showing well much earlier than 2000.
Happy new year ! Thanks for the content ! Cheers !
Thanks so much! Cheers! Happy New Year!
Great video! Thank you for the tips & the recommendations. In Australia we are used to the strong flavours from Shiraz (Syrah). But looking forward to trying some Bordeaux on our next trip to France in May☺️.
Cheerz 🥂
Thank you! My pleasure! I enjoy Shiraz too! Hope you enjoy your trip to France and the Bordeaux! 👍🍷
I know I say this all the time, but I really, really love this selection of 9 must-have Bordeaux wines! All are familiar wines to me, except for Château Fonplégade, and I’m a huge, huge fan of Château Malartic-Lagravière (greatly enjoyed the Grand Vin 2018 and 2012, and even their Second Wine vintage 2019 was also excellent), and Chateau Phelan-Segur (drank but haven’t reviewed 2014), and Chateau Gloria (correctly guessed the blend of the 2018 and reviewed it as well!). I can’t stop raving about this video! Excellent content, John! I know you have more must-have Bordeaux wines up your sleeve and I can’t wait to hear more of them! Santé!
P.S. Love the smooth switch to summer look!!😎 Beautiful view - so Nice!😉🇫🇷
Thanks so much Margaux! Glad you enjoyed the selections! Hope you can try Fonplegade too! I’m a big fan of all of these wines and they offer compelling quality at their respective price points! Santé! Happy New Year!
@margaux--I agree on the 2012 Malartic. It was as good as the 2015(still slightly closed in mid-2022) for $20 less. 2012=94 points vs 2015=94-95 points(drink 2026-30).
@@AttorneySomm Totally agree with you, John! Now I must find that one particular wine! And the 2020 vintage of the others, too! Though much more expensive where I live, they all still offer excellent QPR!
@@AttorneySomm P.S. You’re welcome, John! Happy New Year to you as well!
@@ronmcmartin4513 Thank you so much for sharing your insights about Malartic! Very much appreciated! Cheers, Ron!
You’ve already put me onto a few of these in other vintages, but so glad to have new recommendations. Particularly intrigued by the Feytit-Clinet and Phelan-Segur of the ones I haven’t tried or bought yet.
Thank you! Hope you can track those down and enjoy them too! Had a few more but the audio quality was horrendous. May do a part 2 later if there is sufficient interest. Happy New Year!
The more the better, as far as I’m concerned! Happy New Year to you, as well!
@@gogreenmsu03 Sounds good! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this. Exactly what I wanted.
Excellent! Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
You definitely missed Durfort-Vivens, mind blowing and amazing value. Feytit Clinet is some crazy amazing Value!
Covered D-F in my Second Growth Bordeaux video! Agreed they are doing well now. FT is top notch! Happy New Year!
I bought some bottles of Laroque, Grand-Puy-Ducasse, Malartic-Lagraviere and Branaire-Ducru 2020 the first two definitely fowling your advices. I can't wait to try them but first when they have a little bit of of age. Right now I'll open a bottle of 2003 Pichon Baron next weekend and I hope it will be a very nice experience. Cheers 🍷
Sounds terrific! Excellent choices! Hope you enjoy the Pichon Baron! Cheers!
2020 was probably my last red wine purchase en primeur. I bought a half-case of Baron de Brane, plus a half mixed case (a rarity for me): Beaumont; Cantemerle; Caronne St Gemme; Belgrave; Cissac; and Senejac - I probably couldn't make my mind up. Also, a half-case of Graves blanc - Clos Floridene. Almost certainly won't be buying any 2022.
Another excellent video: clear, concise and informative. Thanks and Happy New Year.
Thanks very much! Sounds like you’re well stocked! Happy new year, Steven!
@steven-2022 was a Hot year, so the wines will drink better early(like 2003). The problem is the Lesser "Petite chateau" 2015, 16, 18, 20 & 22 will all be in their Drinking Window, as well as the higher class 2009/10s.
Then right after that, the higher class 15-22(and Petite 2019, more of long-term vintage) will start their Drinking Window. Dan Ackroyd(as Julia Child), "Save the Liver!"
@@ronmcmartin4513 A nice problem for us to have!
@@ronmcmartin4513 Thanks, Ron. I have quite a lot of '14s, '15s, '16s and '18s, with about a case each of '19s and '20s. How much more claret will I need at my age (68)? I also have Burgundies, Rhones, Riojas, Ribera del Dueros, Barolos, Barbarescos, Chiantis, Brunellos, Ports, Sauternes, and other assorted bits and pieces to get through in whatever time I have left. I think I need to stop buying en primeur!
I bought the 2020 Cos d'estournel and Ducru Beaucaillou. Pretty good investment imo since both bottles are special editions. Also don't sleep on the 2020 Pontet Canet 👌
Thank you! All three are outstanding. Completely agree with you! Just did a standalone video on Pontet-Canet recently too. Had four more wines I discussed including some you mention but the audio was too lousy to use unfortunately.
Well done video. I am going to try some of those wines🤗
Thank you Natasha! Hope you enjoy them as much as I do! Happy New Year!
I really enjoyed this video! Most of those I haven’t heard so it’s time to seek them out. Love your recommendation for Chateau Gloria. I just had the Ronan by Clinet 2016 which at $13, I recommend.
Thanks very much! And I appreciate the suggestion! I’ll have to try it. 👍🍷
Nice video and equally nice backdrop there 😎
I was hoping you’d mention Langoa Barton ‘20. It’s got some raving reviews JS 97, and the price is decent (I got a case at €45 per bottle). But some new names here to look out for, thanks!
Thank you! Yes, they have been doing well lately. I discuss them in my third growth Bordeaux video. Definitely a nice buy at that price!
I have the Laroque, Phelan, d'Issan i have yet to try them yet. I need to get Gloria and Haut Brisson
Thank you! Sounds like a good plan! Hope you enjoy them as much as I do! Cheers!
I have bought a case of Chateau Laroque, though from two different years. Six were 2020, which I’ll age for some time. The other six were a few years earlier so I could have them now. It’s a really great bottle of wine, especially considering its price. I also bought a few bottles of Chateau Feyit-Clinet. I haven’t tried one yet, but I’m sure it will be outstanding in a few years. It’s the 2020 vintage.
Thank you! Sounds like you are well stocked! Cheers!
You did not comment this wine(in this video), the chateau Figeac Grand cru 2020; have you tasted it? And what do you think of it ?
@@injashiran It is phenomenal!
@@AttorneySomm No wonder why it`s sold out even on vivino...
John have you tried Château Trianon?
Hello: I don’t recall trying it. Do you recommend it?
@@AttorneySomm The owner was one of Cheval's Blanc former owners
@@hxl6162 Ah yes I’ve heard of it but still need to try it.
Sou brasileiro de região agreste, é agradável te seguir nas redes 🙌👍👍
Muito obrigado! Saude!
First of all. Happy new year.
Well Château Laroque, is a european secret. so please dont talk about it.
The prises are going to go Mad. 😆
Happy New Year! Such a tremendous wine! I’ll give it a rest for a while. 😅
With you on St Estephe. A beneficiary of climate change, more ripe fruit and less austere than historically the case.
Thank you! Exactly right!
