Marvel used Iron Man and branch out super hero movies independent of themselves and combined there franchise with great actors, they created a juggernaut! It lost it's speed and momentum after Endgame and pandemic? DC has great characters but have business execs that panic and rush the vision? Snyder is a brilliant with a camera with BVS but didn't care for Doomsday having human DNA mixed with General Zod? Save Doomsday for the Superman trilogy? They rush to try to copy off Marvel for what? DC had ahead start with Christopher Reeve and Michael Keaton? But they mismanaged Batman and look what came from it Batman Forever, Batman and Robin? To current time they have another Batman reboot, as if they do not have any other material? They put projects out and cancel them? Zack Snyder they should stick with him and let him finish his trilogy? That would give them time? They have the new Flash movie looks terrific! They have Michael Keaton use him and this movie to branch out like Iron Man did with Marvel?DC executive's don't have a clue what there doing? The Transformers franchise is terrible because of the same leadership?

The Dark Knight trilogy was more 'serious' than 'dark,' as in it was all very believable and dealt with real philosophies and themes, all within a very believable Gotham City where even Batman's tech is inspired off of real military technology.
I think the reason for why people thought these films were so dark when they first came out is because comic book movies were rarely made for adult audiences, and all of the Batman films made up to that time embraced the more fantastical elements of the character instead of being grounded in reality.
Christopher Nolan's interpretation of the character and his mythos came as quite a shock to audiences in the 2000s, simply because it was never seen before.

I have so many little problems with Nolan movies that drive me crazy. Mostly, because of the absolutely awesome moments that surround them.
    This movie is no different.
But this is hands-down one of the best moments in the franchise. The bats “rescuing” him was a genius addition, and I’m bummed it was never explored in a different way in future installments.
