I once played against a sheik who charged usmash after literally every downthrow.
I am afraid to know who they practice against usually lmao
What about looking at his controller?
Alxinho959 You know, this could be a troll question, but I actually don't know if there are rules against that. Believe it or not there are ways to beat someone looking at your controller, but I'm sure that the vast majority of people would be very against this
+SSBM Tutorials lol Wife was notorious for doing this
+Christopher Birnbaum yeh actually tho... i swear to god at evo he'd intentionally sit further away from the tv, a little behind his opponent, in order to get a better glimpse of their hands lol
also... didn't anyone ever question why he was wearing sunglasses?!?? 0_o
you dirty cheater you never look at your oponnents controller
SSBM Tutorials hbox once looked at ppmds DI to know if he got the rest setup
so many ppl talking about "oooh, 0.33 seconds time to react, that sounds easy". well yes, 0.33 seconds isn't that hard, BUT so many ppl forget about the fact, that you have to make a decision within that time!!!
so first react AND THEN decide what to do, since there are 4 possible ways to react and only one is the right.
when it comes to pure reaction time (like pressing a mouse button, when a light turns on), it isn't difficult at all (mine is about 280ms on average - and I'm not even good at it!)
method number 3 is vunerable to spott dodge d tilt. (fox and falco will often go for d tilts in general, since sheik is vunerable to crouch cancel, when the opponent is below 40%)
moreover, dont forget about double jabs against someone who dmash DIs your first jab (this works well against falcon players).
overall, nice video!
i wonder, if boost grab is necessary, when the opponent techs away or behind?
+Mustafa Muradi smashboards.com/threads/ministry-guide-to-tech-chasing-spacies.302446/
ok, you have to boost grab.
+hpmnvge getup attack can be covered two ways. dash away and dash back with grab, or shieldgrab it.
hmm, I would think input lag and the fact that tech in place is not distinguishable on frame 1 would make the reaction to tech in place noticeably harder than .33 seconds
@hpmnvge It's an option that becomes available after the opponent missed their initial tech, which is something you should react to and punish. If you fail to react to them missing their tech, just standing next to them and reacting to whatever they do afterwards is very doable. Roll in either direction means a dash attack, and if they decide to do a getup attack, shield it and go for another grab (not a sheik main, but maybe nair/usmash out of shield work as well)
+Jackson Lawson you have comment reply disabled, but for the most part you can jab > grab or jab > ftilt if they don't react fast enough. otherwise hard read it with upsmash, or use dsmash if they are high enough percent or near the ledge
I'm surprised you didn't go over the wavedash positioning method of tech chasing. It is a little archaic though.
when are you guys gonna do a needle tutorial?
Very informative! Nice job.
Kira what should i do against no tech after jab reset percents to continue the tech chase? I feel like it might be the best tech option against me, i can cover the actual techs pretty well usually.
Jackson Lawson I guess you start chain grabbing?
Jackson Lawson
I know this is pretty late, but crouching can deal with all options. If they get-up attack or get-up in place, then you can react unless you are at such high percents that the attack pushed you away. If they roll to either direction, you can just wavedash boost grab to cover if you have good reactions.
AwesomepianoTURTLES Yeah id call it pretty late lol
with the reaction method, how do you punish them after jab reset stops working
predict that they'll miss-tech or do jab > another move instantly
What if they smash di the jab down?
it cant help them. either the same thing happens or they might get jab reset for longer lmao
getup attack?
+hpmnvge powershield
+hpmnvge shield grab
You can reset them with a jab if they miss their tech then you can grab them again and they are forced to get up
crouch cancel seems to be the new way of dealing with get up attack
good players can sdi out of a jab reset, but yeah.
Do you just have to be faster to react to falco?
on his rolls yeah pretty much
gotta go fast
Can one of your vids be a tutorial on safe options spacies have for getting off ledge? Also another vid for peach to get off the ledge
Thomas Nishimoto You got it
thanks Kira
if falco is getting up and spot dodges, what do I do?
if he is spot dodging his get ups, does this mean I am tech chasing too slow?
+Alvaro Somarriba Yes you are too slow. Alternatively you can wait for the spot dodge and hit him as it ends.
+Alvaro Somarriba To expand slightly on +SSBM Tutorials answer, Falco being able to spot-dodge after any tech option does mean you were too slow. However, occasionally being too slow is just a reality that will happen since nobody is 100% consistent, so it's a good idea to learn how to punish the spotdodge. A pro will learn to recognize when they are too slow and adjust their options accordingly. In other words, the adjustment (e.g., doing a short hop fair to punish the spotdodge instead of going for regrab) should be based on you recognizing and reacting to whether you are too slow, so that you can still go for the optimal option (usually regrab) whenever possible but still get something when you mess up your timing.
👍
what does tl dr mean
+Shazam 8 too long, didn't read. it's basically a summary
Thanks i love your videos :).
thank u
After hundreds of hours in 20XX, time spent studying frames, and five months of tech chasing in friendlies, I still can't do it. I can react to Falcon's roll and Fox's (barely) but have to read every character's tech in place and Falco's everything because his rolls are so fast. Most the time my opponent wins neutral off me getting a grab (I get like 15% on average, they get a shine into a combo). According to the human benchmark test, my average reaction time is usually slightly above the 300ms mark. I've been told to quit Sheik because of my reaction time, but I really like her as a character. I just can't keep up with spacies, especially at low percents. Any advice on this? It's extremely frustrating.
+Eon You'll naturally improve even without practicing as well, this is something where your brain needs to subconsciously learn to react faster (which it definitely can and will) and sometimes it just takes a lot of time.
Baseline reaction times rarely matter, Mew2King has very slow reaction times as well but through practice and experience he is able to react quickly now. It's like those chess grandmasters that can remember the exact board of any game but can't remember if they pieces are placed in ways that aren't possible in a real game.
:)
why the hell is he not mentioning getup attacking.
But in all seriousness, it's pretty unprofessional to not mention a very important tech option. Sucks.
I think get up attack falls under no tech, this is countered by the jab reset and then the re-grab he talks about
I mean, yeah, but he should still MENTION it. There is practically no reason not to.
+xRePullse He didnt mention it because he thought most people weren't complete retards and could figure out that it falls under no tech on their own
+xRePullse Get up attack only happens if they don't tech. That's like trying to cover the "jump away" option but that shouldn't be a concern if you tech chase properly.
