This recent stretch for the Devils was a huge test to see where they stacked up against the NHL’s better teams. FLA x2, TB, CAR, and WSH with them coming out of it 4-1 was a major success if you ask any Devils fan. Really instilled confidence in the fanbase about what this team could accomplish this year.
Their defensive structure has been outstanding. They can always score, but this team has bought in defensively. They are finishing hits, blocking shots, clogging passing and shooting lanes, they are playing for each other. LGD!

Upstate NY Sabres fan myself... as happy that I am about where we stand right now, I still hold my reservations. Games like we had vs. the Habs, Flyers, Wings, and even the Islanders considering how injured they were when we played them... those kind of games have me questioning the team's CONSISTENCY. They play down to their opponents far too often. It should have never even taken OT against the Ducks. I am delighted to see that our goaltending has finally found its footing though. Until we start beating some good teams and we see consistency without playing down to bad teams though I think we should all tamper expectations before we get let down for the 14th season in a row.
20 games in and the blue jackets are .500! Just glad the team is fun again. Work needs to be done but man the youth is looking better. Kent Johnson is underrated as all hell!
Looking very good. If we could of just gotten a better result in that west coast road trip but that is history. I think Ottawa and Columbus could switch places on the rankings.
We do have an interesting team this year and they are more fun to watch than the last two years absolutely. Getting a real NHL head coach finally is helping. RIP Johnny.
Toronto is without Matthews Knies Domi Kampf Jarnkrok Pacioretty and Reaves is suspended. Winning with all of them out is probably not sustainable but definitely worth the jump. Great video!
Leafs missing 6 regular forwards to IR/suspension... Matthews, Domi, Kämpf, Järnkrok, Pacioretty, & Reaves. Now you can also add Knies to the list as well. A good test for the depth players which seems to be going well after a few games as they get their opportunities.
Even if you consider Holmberg to be the 12th forward and Reaves to be a press box guy, they're missing 5 out of 12 forwards. Dewar Steeves filling in for now, with Alex Nylander getting his shot and kids Minten and Grebenkin getting a taste. No losing streak yet thankfully
Same. Bobrovsky started last season being quite shaky too, and he grew into the playoff menace that we knew in 2024. However, I am not that confident in Spencer Knight. It honestly feels that he's not confident in himself to catch those silly rebounds. He has moments of brilliance, but otherwise he is very mid. The defense on the other hand is ATROCIOUS. Either Zito didn't cook and we were blinded by the cup win, or they're actual bums who can't do anything. Ekblad continues to be a major bum, beaten-up beyond repair. Balinskis... every time I hear "Balinskis took the puck", my heart starts racing, because there is a HUGE chance he'll turn it over. The only ones that save themselves are Adam Boqvist, Forsling and Schmidt (sometimes)
I think the power rankings are a mix of where a team is in the standings, their performance in the current week while also considering the strength of their opponents, how they won/lost those games/the deserve-to-win-o-meter. It's a really fair system and I think you pretty much nail it week to week.
Yea i feel this whole penguins situation isnt really his fault. Prob why he got an 8 year contract. Everyone was saying before he took the job that it was the worst situation in the NHL.
Dubas should fire himself. The Pens are unironically going to be bad for 10 years now. They are 2 years from even beginning what will be a total rebuild from zero.
I think we need to be renamed to the Dallas Coinflips since whether we play up to our potential or just chase the puck all night seems to be 50/50 odds
Last season i watched a lot of these power rankings. I watched from the start and turns it off when THG finished talking about my team. It's usually very quick. I only had to watch like 1 minute. Now my team is out of the last row! I've reached the 7 minute mark of this video lol wow. (I root for the ducks)
I think the Ducks have a lot to be happy about relative to last season. The goalie tandem is surely the envy of a lot of teams right now which is the foundation a team needs to build from. Both of Caps losses this week were goalie clinics from both sides. Both games “should” have been much higher scoring games - except amazing goaltending both ways. As a Caps fan of course we don’t root for Philly - but Gritty is iconic.
As a caps fan definitely a bit concerning how the first time we lose two in a row is after losing Ovi. Hopefully it’s just a mojo thing and the boys can get their heads back on straight! Our record without Ovi during his career is below .500. Unlike the penguins record without Sid that’s actually better than when he’s playing😉
NSH fan here. We absolutely should be optimistic! Shooting percentage is abysmal, Saros is keeping us in games early which isn’t historically usual. I.e. regress to the mean w shooting and we’re back in the thick of things. I just have faith in Brunette as a coach personally after watching what he did last year. I think we can find a way to play above the puck on the backcheck better to have better possession numbers and take away time and space, establish better chemistry such that we’re establishing our forecheck, and make it so we’re being pests in the o zone. We did this well against Winnipeg last night and kept it more simple cause it’s been a struggle at home so far. We are, in spurts, playing above the puck better on defense and letting it feed the counterattack. Bruno didn’t accomplish what we did last year without a certain commitment to defense; what I saw change most in Forsberg’s game last year once playing w O’Reilly was stronger backchecking. Still have so much synergy and connectivity left out there on the ice. A little confused by giving up on Fabbro and ‘being in the market’ for a top 4 defenseman. How are the flames so high? They really have no superstars and can’t score. They are just out working teams but how long can they sustain that before they get tired?
I think the most horrendous thing about last night was the absolutely wrong goalie interference call that was made in the panthers Avs game. Honestly if that was interference then the panthers swept the oilers. You wanna know what WAS similar? IT DIDNT HAPPEN.
The 8:47 mark of the current so-called “power rankings” video features the dropping of the Sens, compared to the previous so-called “power rankings” video, from 17th to 20th. I’m not shocked the Sens dropped because oh boy did they deserve to do so after having ended their week having, going back to the week before that, lost 5 straight.
Bruins last two games have a combined score of 3-1.. 2-0.. im an optimistic Bs fan and think Jim’s strategic approach (quality shots over quantity) didn’t mesh well with our team. I’m optimistic swayman will turn it around and this team will learn to get some greasier goals. Not optimistic we’re gonna light the league on fire but I think we can scoop one of those wildcard spots if they just play how their capable
