you my friend are simply amazing!!! one of the best channels I found... what an energy! Thanks for explaining so many workflows without to be boring. Glad I found this vid
A true master of content compression. Not a second wasted.
Putting the video on 1.25 speed gives us Argentinian film composer Ben Shapiro lol
LoL!
Hahaha
Hi Marc!
Very helpful video - thx for that!
And yes, I would be interested in more stuff about Orchestration Hacks & Tips 🙂
And btw, I really like your speed - more information per time and getting straight to the point 👍
This is cool Marc! I started to adapt a similar approach in the last months where I deactivate all the patches in my template so Cubase doesn't take an hour to load
Gracias marc estas haciendo god's work
Great info as usual.. thank you
excelente video marc muchas gracias
definately interested in hacks and tricks! thanks marc
Hey man as always thanks so much! Saved this one for later after watching because it's going to take a long time to digest all this (not to mention action it). Congrats on your new soundtrack! Would love to see a breakdown if you have time. Quick question: Do you have other templates for writing in other genres or is this the omnibus?
A very clear and helpful video, thank you!
very beautiful, the quality is really powerful!
Brilliant
Thank you sir for sharing your learnings. I'm curious to know how you create that sounds.
Wow, Bravo! A lot of work put into this. I go crazy just going through all of the samples I have access to. 😜🎶🎹🎵Play On
Amusing and inspiring :) Amazing insights thank you
such great video watching it second time in a row
Marc love your vids.
Can you recommend basic essential VSTs to begin with as starter composer. And computer to buy/power required etc?
Thanks
Would you mind sharing your camera setup? Camera, lenses, lighting etc.? Really loving the look!
Would be very interested in a breakdown of the latest soundtrack! Also, love the choir patch. Is that Requiem by any chance?
I would love to see a breakdown of the soundtrack! And some tricks/ hacks would be interesting also.
Awesome video, thanks so much….its super helpful!
Eres un fenómeno Marc, muchas gracias por compartir tu experiencia y conocimiento. Tienes algún vídeo donde expliques como ecualizar trompetas y trombones para música épica? Gracias.
Would love seeing Marc explaining how he created the soundtrack of the movie wich i dont remember the name (killa something), seeing him kind of recreating the music of the movie, i love that kind of breakdown, it is so inspiring to work and produce something by seeing someone who is a master at doing that. This is a really good way to learn, very fast learning, better than books...i think...Anyway, that would be something i'd like. Thanx Marc and all the Cinematic Composing team ! :>)))
totally agree
Yes, please gives us all the orchestral hacks and tips.
Hey Marc, great content :D you also have the template for Logic to download? I only could find the cubase one! Thanks for your help and sharing your knowledge :) have a great weekend, Felix
Hi.
Is there a detailed list of which percussion should be routed to which group channel? Or can you explain the routing principle of percussion instruments? I don't quite understand which instrument has to be routed to one or another group channel. Maybe frequency limits. For example, some of it can be equally routed to high or mid, some of it - equally to mid or low.
Hi Marc, thank you for the nice video! I also try to make templates without Vienna Ensemble Pro. But when you have the instruments loaded direct in Cubase how do you handle the spinning wheel and short stops when Cubase makes the autosaving? (in VEP with decouple active no whaiting time and no spinning wheels when Cubase autosaves). Witch autosaving interval have you chosen? It bothers me to have to wait the couple of seconds when autosave engage... Thank you for any suggestion! Love your content.
Hi ! What's your virtual piano ? It sounds perfect! Thx!
Voy a hacerlo bien largo 🤣 me encantó
Thanks, Marc. Great video as always! You switched from Windows to Mac?
He's probably just using both, Mac for mobile (quiet, fast, good battery life) and PC for desktop. Since both Cubase and VST3 are platform agnostic it doesn't really matter much anymore.
Hi Marc. Would like to know exactly which patches you use in your full orchestra multis long and short for sketching. I couldn’t catch them all in the video. Thanks!
Man just wondering what libraries do you use for timpani, snare, harp and low brass?
handy template . Do you use VEP as a server to load your instrument ? And your tracks are instrument track or midi track ? I am logic user so just trying to get the hang of your setup. thanks
Thanks for this, Marc! I commented this on your other video but just in case you didn't see it.
Maybe you can do a video on how to sound like John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon). Thanks again!!
Great suggestion! Coming up! 😀
@@CinematicComposing YES THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Hi Marc, very intereted about how your Razor Naga X works on mac, can it set the the macros' keycommand work only on cubase?
Nice!
nice
What model Sennheiser headphones do you use?
Hi Marc, I’m a total newbie with regard to recording my own music and have been using Cubase 11 Pro for the past 2 years as a hobby. But I dream of being able to compose an orchestral piece someday and would like to “play” with your orch template in order to learn more about the setup in the DAW. Will your template work with Cubase 11 Pro and up? If yes, how can I get a copy of your template (I don’t see it in this video). Thank you!! Clay
does loading two same halion patch have same effect?
Hey! Can you show us how you route your template in cubase specifically from Composing > Group Channels > Stems (For processing)> Master Fader(2buss) so we can recreate it? I can't seem to find it in the classes I have (I have all of the Composing and mixing classes). I would really like to understand the routing process for a single template for mixing/mastering.
Hi Marc, can you tell please what the difference between group track "Brass" and Horns/Trumpets ? I thought tubas, trombones, horns and trumpets ARE brass :))
Why don't trumpets, horns divided into shorts and longs?
Also, it is interesting what is in Ensemble short/Ensemble Long?
Do I understand correctly that Strings, Brass, Woodwinds etc are routed to Ensemble groups?
Do you have this logic Pro X?
thanks Marc, great stuff, hope the in-laws were nice to you ;)
Hey Marc!
I love all your content. Thank you for sharing all of this with us!
I'd love to request if you could take a look at some darker stuff in orchestral music please.
My main inspiration for this is music that comes from games such as Dark Souls & Elden Ring.
Would love it if you could check it out and maybe give us some tips for writing in this style!
Thanks again!!!
I would like to see that too, I love evil music!
Here's what I found so far:
- Use clusters
- Half-step trills sound pretty scary too, especially on string instruments
- Create dissonance and write off key on purpose, at least in higher registers. For lower registers mostly keep it normal (chord notes, in key, avoid dissonances, etc.) to have a solid "foundation"
- Check out mediant chords for the classic movie villain sound; more specifically, instead of using functional or modal harmony as per usual, go from a minor chord to another minor chord, such that they are a third away. For instance: C minor could be immediately followed by either Eb minor, E minor, A minor or Ab minor. This was used in, for example, "The Hunt Is Coming" from Witcher 3
Hello, it s very easy to make it.
I do not details the piano not, cause i guess you already know piano, in case, their is google will explain you on what note to push to make the sound down below.
And im fromsoftware player too :D
So, to do that, the 1 method, is to play (from logic side coming from dark soul ost) minor chromatic by semitones who is give you:
Cmin, C#min, Dmin, EBmin etc.......
The 2nd method is still chromatique, but this time, no semitone, but by 3rd major, who is give you a loop chord progression ascendant:
Cmin, Emin, ABmin, Cmin, Emin, ABmin, Cmin, Emin, ABmin, Cmin, Emin, ABmin etc........
Their is 2 chromatic other method but maybe you don t care about what i say, so i will get off these one to win time, however if you have test the technique up and interesed by the 2 other, i will give it to you.
Okay, it was the 2 first common technique to have "a dark side mood, just by using minor, of course musique is extensible, major only or between minor is always welcome.
Okay, now, let s speak about "Motoi Sakuraba" technique: Minimizing the movement by using chord invertion and without, as exemple:
Cmin, Emin/B, Amin/C, Fmin/C, C#min.
For orchestration (i work under metropolis ark serie) and i use basicly:
Percution: low drum with timpani and bells from berlin percution
Cuivre: Ring tuba, Cimbassi, bass trombones
String: low string, high string in octaves.
Choir: choir, specialy marcato long et staccato.
Bonus: French horn legato tracing out chord progression line.
Recommended BPM: 165, 8 bar chord mixed with 4 and 2 (for quarter note triplet)
Have a nice day !

Quiero saber como hace el para ordenar en en cubase y tener todos los sonidos
Can we get that soundtrack breakdown? :)
I just moved over to a laptop. My template is now basically BBCSO, Cinebrass and a few odds and ends.
yeah explain how you create the soundtrack!
where can i buy this template?????
Confused about signal flow: When you print stems in Cubase, do the mastering plugins apply? Or do you have to bounce them out separately post-fx somehow? I'm a DP user testing out Cubase for a possible migration. Thanks so much for all your vids
All FX get printed to final stems. There's an export mode called "+ Master/Groups/Sends (CSPM)" that will to multiple passes when you export so FX get printed in stems... hope it makes sense :)
Omg So Many Tracks.... What Computer Specs U Used? Please make Video Laptop/PC For Trailer Composer PLEASE REPLAY ive Subscribe ^ ^
Fantastic content! What did he say he used for drones, braams etc. at 12:15? Audio Imperia and …?
Audio Impera and Keep Forest
Thanks so much for answering Marc! You’re a freakin boss at what you do!
Hi Marc, can you do a video on how you would use a sample library to take, say a violin part that is mostly legato but suddenly you might want a plucked violin note in the middle of it? can you have all this violin midi on a single track?
You can but you'd need to use a key switch set to change it from legato to Pizzicato, then back to legato again. A simple trick is to play it in and hit the pizzicato key switch on the keyboard as you are doing it and then immediately change it back. Hope that helps.
@@doctorcaneyour help was appreciated ✊
Hi Marc, I commented on your previous video... I'm a 16-year-old violin pro (for my age) and a big fan of you and your videos. I want to get into film composing and orchestrating in a DAW (Cubase). I have experience in composing already, just never orchestrating digitally. I need advice on sound libraries. I would like to have high-quality patches (I am a 12-year musician, so it matters). It doesn't have to be all in one library of course, and all of this without breaking the bank (I'm just getting started). What would you recommend I look into? I thank you for your help in advance - never stop inspiring people like me! BTW, I'll be one of the first to watch your video about John Powell-style composing, if you manage to create it!
At the beginning (and later, too) you can use Reaper, it's free and very powerful. BBC Symphony Orchestra is also free.
@@MatejKovacicIllustrator Thank you. I've checked both of them out, but as far as control over the patches goes, they're both pretty limited (I specifically noticed strings). I know it's not common for a "beginner" to go after details like this, but my ear seeks perfection. Thank you very much for your advice Matej, and if anyone has good recommendations for a full library (or libraries) with which I'll stay under $500, I would greatly appreciate your suggestions.
@@armenhovhannisyan5505 you won't find perfection in sample libraries. Every one of them makes compromises and has limitations in certain areas. That's simply the nature of sample libraries. You need to learn to work with them - not against them - to bring out their best.
Or just use them as demo tools and find real musicians.
breakdown soundtrack please
How many GB of RAM would you recommend for doing this type of thing? I'm buying a new Macbook pro and I'm not sure between 36gb, 48gb and 64gb ram. Hopefully I won't need 90gb or 128gb! I don't want to go overkill but I don't want to regret having too little as this will likely be a 10 year £5000 investment. I do prefer more minimal compositions - things like Max Richter, Ludovicio Einaudi, Olafur Arnalds, Craig Armstrong, Cinematic Orchestra - Arrival of the birds, and I love Ramin Djawadi - Dragonstone. I can't see myself loading over 100 tracks - probably only 50. Currently I produce electronic music and would like to combine both and sometimes do either one separately.
How many gigs of disck and Ram space do you have in your library computer?
7 TB
@@CinematicComposing Wow.and Ram memory?
If you only have 24 days to compose, how do you compose and get approved and denied what you have written, what happens when you are denied something, is there any extra time to rectify things, is there any extra time to rectify things?
In this scenario:
I submit music twice per week (about 10 mins of music per submission). I usually get feedback from director within the day (usually within the hour). A good director will give you specific and clear feedback so you can make changes fast. I usually do changes first and then continue with new cues.
No, there's no extra time for rewrites. If the deadline is August 26th, then all music (including rewrites) needs to be submitted to dub mix by Aug26th.
An experienced director that knows you're working under a tight deadline, will work very closely with you (ie. giving you precise and detailed feedback quickly) so you can move as fast as possible. The director is usually on your team in that regard. Directors don't set the deadline. Not even producer. It's usually the Network that sets dates. So the production team we're all in the same boat making it happen.
The director knows that it's as important to bring a good composer, as giving her/him the best guidance and feedback possible to have a good soundtrack submitted on time.
In general, I've been very privileged to work with directors that don't just respect my work, but have worked with me to make it better for the project.

Too much talking
you said you used 256gb or ram before you went to 64... Are you saying that you have 256GB of ram on your PC? You do realize that costs tens of thousands of dollars, and most people (at most) have 64GB of ram. Do you mean 256GB of storage?
No he means ram look at his studio tour
No.
