I think what I learned most from this video is that adding texture changes things so much - that's really what you were doing with most of these things - rug, lights, bookshelf. It does help tie your whole house together so much better, even though your house was already like 8000x more beautiful than most houses! lol! We are moving this coming week and I've been studying paint colors. But I think I also need to investigate texture in decor to tie in all my rooms together.
Ann-Cathrin S if you want one, just keep looking! I got one out in the middle of nowhere North Carolina outside a tiny clothing store that was going out of business. It was the most random thing. We smashed it into our sedan and kept driving. $15.00!
My struggle with decor is that I never feel “complete.” Not in the sense of “I love decorating so much, I’m always switching things around.” No, I mean, I feel like my decor never quite looks right. I feel like I can never quite nail a look. I get halfway there on a decor style or aesthetic, but never have a finished look. Why can’t I ever get those swoon-worthy Pinterest rooms?
@@brookegordon3199 I'm clearly not talking aout lighting and filters. I'm talking about having a completed and polished look. I even say it IN my original post. A filter won't complete a look....
I feel the like title of this video is misleading. These aren’t common decor mistakes they’re specific to you. And half of them weren’t mistakes just things you wanted to swap out or change.
I just love your style, your way of explaining things and I feel, while watching your videos, like you are always telling a story. It's like honey to my years ❤️❤️❤️🙏thank you for being real! the only designer I could watch and listen non stop to be honest. Cheers from UK 🇬🇧 LOVE YOU! 😊
I really like the changes in your bedroom. Everything ties so nicely together. One of my pet peeves is visible cords. I know that eliminating them entirely is too much to ask, but if I can see them, I'd at least like them to look neat. So... I was wondering if you could pull your lamp cords taut and maybe tape them in place at the bottom of your wall. Would that work in your room? The ombre yarns on the shelf do look nice. Today. But, depending on your environment or cleaning style, those colors could quickly be dimmed by dust - over & over again. Just a little something to consider.
I really like it when designers are transparent about what works over time and what doesn't. I'd like this for regular content... just minor tweaks can be so inspiring!
"If you lack patience like I do, you can just use painter's tape..." Me: Immediately wondered if I could use painter's tape when I lack patience with my kids. Would it hold them down while I take a mommy break? LOL!
Omg! Yes I did the carpet mistake to a T. Yes I also did the bed firm ouch my back, oh darn it 2 days late so I purchased a topper and spent some cash for comfort and got my dream bed set. Dear Macenna, I loved this video an I used it as a reference for my new cloud bed, so yes, I'm purchasing from Buffy bed sheets, pillow and duvet covet, thank you for introducing to me this wonderful and fresh idea of eucalyptus. Sometimes tags lie about what the item is made out of. I have never, ever come across cotton that pills, no matter the quality. My guess and experience says the contents are not 100% cotton no matter what the tag says.
I would guarantee you that fabric is a poor blend of polyester and cotton. No way 100% cotton would pill like that. When I saw that white shag, my first thought was...oh girl, do you really live in your house? : ) Your prize rattan shelving is so 70s! I loved them then, and love them now. XO, MaCenna or not pure cotton despite what the tag stated. As I have been using affordable 100% cotton sheets and they are just fades or rip due to years of usage. What happened to your pillow case also happened to polyester blend sheet that I mistakenly bought due to its shiny, cool to the touch and smooth fabric.

If the eucalyptus fabric is smooth to the touch it was likely processed in the same way rayon is. Still a sustainably grown product, but it won't breathe as well as natural fibers that aren't processed with harsh chemicals. Eucalyptus fabric that isn't treated with harsh chemicals has a textured feel, like linen.

Some interesting ideas, but something to be aware of is constant updating can be costly. When a fire destroyed my home's interior and furnishings, I found out a couple of things. Firstly, how thrifting and donated furniture could really work to my advantage. And secondly, furniture and accessories bought at full price and even so called sales are ridiculously expensive! Except for my brand new bed ... had to draw the line somewhere lol. So I went to work with paint, and slipcovers and repurposing items. My results: an eclectic mix of traditional, transitional and modern and they all work together. People love the warmth of my home, but what works for me may not work for others. Thanks for a great video.
Hi MaCenna, sorry for probably ridiculous question. The rug that you purchased is very lovely, as I do agree shag and light not way to go (as I do have the same thing now). You have mentioned that you can clean this new rug. Any tips on how are you doing it? As it says sepcifically professionally cleaning only. I do have several dogs, who just love to roll in the mud, in my house so I am looking for light and clean friendly rug but having some difficulties.
Hello! For the piling bed sheets: it's not the cotton, it's the quality of the cotton but most of all the thread count. Get the highest thread count your money can buy (at least 500 to 600 is a minimum but if you can get 800 to 1000 it's even better. If you can get organic cotton it's better and stronger and if you can get Egyptian cotton: even better!) Nice updates! Love your channel
Wow.. really looks fabulous and you say it’s comfortable.. What more could ya want?.. I really love your light fixtures what a DIY.. love it❤️ Great video.. I always like to do room makeovers to give me that new apartment feels.. have a great day
It looks great! I'd love tips on how to finish a room. I'm in a new home and slowly getting through setting up each space. I can always get my room 90-95% finished but can never figure out how to make it look "done." I can get big stuff up on the walls and decor on shelves or tables, but the other wall space never looks complete (right now I'm struggling to finish my master bedroom. What do I put on the wall behind a nightstand/tall lamp? I already have a mirror in the room.) Thanks - love your videos!
You could put a mirror behind the lamp and some books with a plant, vase, or frame on top of the books. I think Macenna also has another video transformation video demonstrating that.
Camille Cipri those bedside lamps are so cool bet you can make them work by buying a few more things 😉 for the room you’re thinking of. I want to put them in the MBR; I figure it’s for us no one else anyway! Have faith in yourself...
Did you paint the line abstracts in your room? I love the watercolor in your kitchen/dining area. I want recreate it for my place but not sure if it will work out as well.
Im so happy that you put that shelf in your office, when you got it and said maybe it would be used in a makeover i thought "i would definitely keep for myself "
I think those mistakes are OK. Definitely are common and things you don't think of or don't know before trying. 😊👍 You did it awesomely well. Lots of love from Germany. 🤗💖
I loooooove everything you have done in your home, but the only thing I wish you'd change is that black painting over your bed. It completely sucks the light out of the room and looks so gloomy IMO.
Literally ... and I mean literally ... I have been ADDICTED to your videos and I’ve been so inspired. I’ve been watching on repeat and also finding my Taste. I live in an apartment where the living room and kitchen meet and you don’t really know where the living room ends or the kitchen ends lol so any tips on creating a divider ? Help!
I really like this video. Thanks for keeping us up to date because we love your ideas! Would you consider doing a video about buying and storing thrifted items or how you determine if it's worth holding for x amount of time. Like you said the rattan shelf is from January, but if you didn't use it now, it could sit for months even though you still plan to use it. Hope this makes sense!
I also had a white shag carpet in my living room. I got rid of mine too. I still ask myself what was I thinking. There was no cleaning it and my vacuum cleaner hated it about as much as I did in just a few months.
I would love to see a home tour! I love you decor and to be able to just see everything all put together at once would be fun. I love every pendant light you have made, every macrame piece you’ve made. Your style is so unique I just love it. I wish I had a fourth of the talent that you do! Oh and the piece above your bed is awesome! I love that. I enjoyed the video, always do, and your puppy is so adorable! ♥️ See ya next time! 😊
Beautiful job! Would an ivory (off-white) coloured shag rug be a terrible idea in the living room, you think...? It seems to be the only colour that will tie the room together, and we wanted a shag (or something plush)... Hm... if so, what other kinda super comfy and soft rug style could I get?

I know what you mean about shag rugs! But they are soft to walk on... But look so dirty! I want to repaint my room this Spring, but then it also mean to recover a chair and find a new chest of drawers... Well I could repaint the one I have but the drawers don't close properly... But I definitely want some changes in the bedroom! Thank for the tips, I love the new bookshelf!!!
Cotton is still a really good fabric for sheets. If cotton is pilling it is because of the weave (threads not being pulled tight enough) not the fabric. I have tried bamboo and loved those sheets. I never tried eucalyptus, but now I really want to try it.
Thanks fally think that paintingin the bedroom above the bed is a bit "harsh" especially with the desire to create a cloudlike bed look. I understand the grounding of the room with black. but if there was an ombre like or abstract with variations of grey leading to black or maybe some silver leafing in the same family would blend inwiththeroom while creating a dramatic moment/spot.
You had mentioned having a lot of flagged magazines around... I "make" my own magazines... I see something I like and either print it off or rip it out of a magazine then file it in a three ring binder using paper protectors... I have several with different binders with different categories.
Turn the duvet color inside out. Lay the duvet on top and tie the corners if they have ties or use duvet clips if not. You and a partner (if available) slide hands thru the opening to the bottom of the duvet and pull thru the opening and button closure. DONE! Perfect distribution of the duvet and so fast!!
I think the sheets are pilling because they’re short pieces of cotton. My mom always taught me to look for cotton PERCALE and if it doesn’t say percale don’t buy it. Don’t give up on cotton. Just try percale ones instead!
I was wondering if you could do a video on your swatch book. We are in the beginning stages of really making our house ours and I am very curious about your swatch book!
Any tips on upgrading a mobile home without extensive finances? Walls are panels (can you paint those?) Cupboards have a weird finish, and carpet is Everywhere... what should I do???

You had mentioned having a lot of flagged magazines around... I "make" my own magazines... I see something I like and either print it off or rip it out of a magazine then file it in a three ring binder using paper protectors... I have several with different binders with different categories.
Where is your sweater from??? I need it!!!
The white Pom Pom one is from a brand called Chan Luu and the second is Zara
XO, MaCenna Thank you!
@@XOMaCenna Thank you!!!
My kitty cat is sick right now, and I am very sad, but your funny doggy made me smile. Thank you!
Those pendant lamps are utterly gorgeous!!
I think the sheets are pilling because they’re short pieces of cotton. My mom always taught me to look for cotton PERCALE and if it doesn’t say percale don’t buy it. Don’t give up on cotton. Just try percale ones instead!
Chinese lantern plant dries really well, leaving these beautiful orange flowers intacted
Your home is very cozy. Now, what to do for an outdoor space for spring and summer (if you have an outdoor space)
I just loved how you styled the bookcase.
I was wondering if you could do a video on your swatch book. We are in the beginning stages of really making our house ours and I am very curious about your swatch book!

I love your home decor style! I plan on redecorating and acquiring some new furnishings and decor when my family and I move into our forever home here in a couple of years! I like Pottery Barn for the newer types of items and they provide free design services where they can come to your home and help you decorate! After I am done shopping at Pottery Barn, then I will just use what I have and maybe even thrift for things as well. I spotted the Magnolia mag- I love her decorating style too! Where did you get the wallpaper and black pillows in your bedroom?
That bookcase is so perfect!

I love that you admit that you made mistakes and try to correct it :) My white shag died real quick with cats in the house 😅😭😅
