    I covered my Scorpion PE I removed the motor, kept over heating and shut’s down at base of a hill. Added a Rolhoff 14 speed hub. Took it on a 30 miles trail next to a raging river. Best ride. 12 gears pinion gear box gives and the 14 gears hub I can climb a wall. My trail weighs a lot more than yours. So now I used off road and gravel rails to trails. Thought check out you video for this trail. Only 7 miles a bit far from Sacramento for me just for 7 mile ride. It’s only going to get 100 degrees today. Down from 113 yesterday. Don’t blame you for heading to coast. I just did some riding in Redwoods and a rainy ride way up in Washington on a 33 mile long trail. Happy trails to you.

      Thanks for watching, John! I have a Greenspeed GTO with fat tires and a Rolhoff hub that would have been much better on this ride! Yep, that was a long ride for a 7-mile trail. I think we were just looking for an excuse to get out of the heat for a few hours. :)

      I didn't even know we could buy a Pinon MGU on its own yet but great build man - when I can figure out where to get the Enviolo Extreme Gearbox I was going to center mount that to run both the n380 I have in the rear - it's not as much range as the rohloff but it's also like 20% the cost and doubled up it would be plenty for here. The hard part is getting the automatic torque control (in place of automatic gear shifts you can tell it you want a constant torque/rpm and it will try to keep it) if you want to speed up, turn the control lol pretty great
      I really want to swap out my Tongshen (which has been working like a champ, flawlessly somehow through all the parts I smash and break) for the TQ HPR50 but now it's like anything that doesn't have the gearbox integrated doesn't interest me anymore. I'll just keep using the TS with the CVTs until I can get everything out of my back wheel except a plain axle/hub (the goal).
      And being up in Oregon, yep, it's always 10°F cooler at the coast - just get over the mountain part or ride a river through the mountains until it dumps out lol (also working on a trailer that turns into a boat so I can ford bigger streams and slower rivers).

    This is why for all its warts I'm continuing to build on my Fat Tad CXS - I know nobody asked but I bet a lot of people would love a belt kit which makes IGH even better.
    I'm working on retrofit jackshafts for idler mounts so we can mount a Gates Carbon tandem bike belt kit (also a bash box or at least plate since I keep smashing my idlers/rear derailleur, and that's been more expensive than just upgrading to IGH/belt in the first place).
    The front suspension is suspension but with like 3" of travel at best it bottoms out quickly; most people won't roll their trike a dozen times but you know how it is - I miss my outdoors since the accident and nobody is going to hand me my access...
    You guys are nuts taking road tires up there - at least get some different rims that have some nice 2.5" puncture resistant scwalbe or Vee and air them down a bit - or go full foam core so you can air up and down but never flat ;-)
    Hello from Halloweentown, OR, where we sit between the Columbia gorge and the Oregon Coast at the foot of the North Coast Range :-) the terrain is...interesting, even just driving around town. This town is *filled* with stairs because there are bluffs and ravines everywhere lol
    Thanks for the content, I'm going to try to do a 101 ride later this year and see if I can get to my cousin's house (lives in Ensenada); it would be cool to roll up to Cabo Wabo for my first time and literally be on my bent tad ;-) 57 and crippled but far from dead ha ha ha

    Great channel! I'd love to see a video discussing shoe options for recumbents, and which you like the best. :). Are non-flexible soles the way to go? Do you push with your whole foot, or do you stay on your toe pad as on a diamond frame? Some suggest larger pedals and then centering your arch on the pedal. Would love to hear your thoughts!

    • @bikestrikesrazors
      @bikestrikesrazors  4 місяці тому

      Hey, Mal! We're using stiff soled MTB shoes with SPD style MTB pedals, the cleats placed over the ball of the foot area, although with stiff soles, the pressure is spread over the entire length of the foot. I wouldn't recommend non-stiff soles unless you're using some type of platform that holds the entire length of your shoe. Of course, always make sure you're clipped or strapped in so your foot can't fall off the pedal, drop down and wind up under a trike cruciform arm (leg suck). I have a buddy who does lots of long-distance riding, double centuries and such, that swears by setting up your foot contact point on your heel, taking the ankle out of the equation, and making the force from your leg to the pedal more direct. I've never tried this, so while it works for him, I can't say one way or the other if it's actually better, and "better" may depend on the rider anyway. Thanks for watching!
