Whoever came up with the idea of having the entire video based on the interaction of two bonsai enthusiasts on extreme opposite ends (asymmetrical education and experience) deserves a prize. These series allow less experienced bonsai artists to relate. Thank you for the content.
I've seen many intro to bonsai videos on UA-cam which provide valuable info. The Strength in this video is really hearing the voice of someone who is new to bonsai expressing many of the self doubts and concerns that I'm going through being new to bonsai and having those issues directly being addressed. Thanks for the video.
When I was younger and first getting into bonsai this stuff didn’t exist, nor did Mirai. I’ve fallen back into the hobby at the perfect time. Lots of content to back learn and new content that’s in its best form. Thanks Ryan.
I very much appreciate this series. The videos are well done and have an excellent balance of detail and brevity. Thank you all for sharing your expertise and heart...for free.
This series are so good for people that can't decide weather or not go full on the Bonsai experience and just need a quick look at all the things one can do and how!
This kind of instructional video is exactly what I've been looking for the past 9 years... Thank you!! I look forward to see more videos, with beginner guidances, like with Josh. Actually, I'd love if you would make more videos, where you guide Josh (from picking the material and all the way to the final piece, exactly like the step-by-step video you're making here). Let me know if I can offer you any kind of assistance/help. Note that I live in Denmark, with my Japanese wife. Cheers Simon.
Such a great video, thank you for everything! Ryan is a great coach, i work in a hr cabinet and I can tell MOST of the bosses don’t know how to teach their people how to improve in their job, but Ryan does; he never responds with an answer, but with a question and to me thats brillant.
I've been doing lots of research for the first set of bonsai tools I plan to buy. One thing I've been struggling with is the decision to buy a concave cutter or the spherical concave cutter. If I can get feedback from Ryan or anyone else in the comment section it would be greatly appreciated! Keep up the great work I look forward to each new video you come out with.
Wunder, why do you dont start with the trunk and rots ... nebari? From my point of view, it is importent to find the front first .. or possible fronts.
think Ive been cutting too much too deep..will be posting 2 of my first vids on it this week...you channel is excellent....im too aggressive but am using yamadori trees, and following your fundamentals meant more than I wanted came off....they may die, but hey, I learned if they do...if they dont I have also learned lessons of value...again thanks for your great lessons.
I just bought a creeping Juniper with multi trunks and I'm frightened to start pruning it. I have a fair idea which branches I want to keep but still frightened a bit 🤯
What are the "stubs"? The left over from removing branches or what I would call "nubs"? I have a mature juniper (20+ years), that has little nubs all up and down the branches. Do they need to be cut off?
Great video! Loving this series so far! So informative and engaging! Is it safe to do the cleanup pruning anytime of the year? I've been buying a lot of nursery stock lately, here in Australia it's the middle of summer and I'm not sure if I should just let it sit and wait till the right season or get into cleaning??😁
Maybe one day in another life I can be like Kimura/Taiga, look at a 500-year-old tree and be able to cut off two-thirds or three-fourths of the branches without any hesitation.

Great teacher, but too much words and not enough pictures, as usual.
