I graduated November 2019, Class 20-01, Purple Lions.....at that time, I was 40 years old with 22 years TIG and E-7; I was the 5th oldest out of 90 graduates in my class......I honestly had no problem checking my ego at the door and swallowing my pride, not to mention I was a recycle from the previous class for land navigation failure - here's the BLUF, if you want something and when you're trying to achieve a goal, you have to find that discipline and drive in you to succeed.....once I made the decision to go warrant and drop my packet, nothing was going to stop me; I didn't care that I had to fold shirts, do rifle PRT or go through the 7-minute morning wakeup - I was going to leave Fort Rucker wearing WO1, one way or another.....this video is spot on, WOCS is not difficult, but it will be if you're not prepared for it; it's NOT a gentleman's course, but you'll eventually see the dynamics as to why the course is meant to be taught that way - be a team player, lead when it's your turn to lead, follow when it's not, don't be a blue falcon and just remember why you're there and what you came to accomplish and go home with.....Strength In Knowledge!

@@floyd4311 Thanks for the info. For now it’s just a thought though, as I’ve never even been to the US before. I’d like to gain US citizenship and my plan A is to pursue a master’s degree in I/O psychology here in Europe to increase my chances of qualifying for an immigrant worker visa. Recently though I’ve been having an itch for the military and flying sounds like a blast, so, if my academic plans don’t work out, I have been thinking of applying to any job that is able to hire aliens to get a visa, wait however long it takes for the green card, then proceed with the naturalization through military service, and since if I join the military I will have to be there for a while, I might as well pick an mos that is enjoyable and that also has a good carryover to civilian life.

Thanks for the video. One tip i don't share much. On the road march. Get a tiny carabiner. Clip it to your weapon and vest at the sholder. Hold the grip. Place your magazine on your belt or tucked close in but not completely in as it's visible. You are now at the ready. You can drop your weapon to your side as long as you maintain your grip on the grip. Pay attention to detail in what they tell you to do. I had another student complain about the carabiner. The cadre politely told them. I was at the ready an meeting standard. "He's gonna make a great warrant." That's how we carried in theater and no one had a problem with it. Last thing i ever want too drop was my weapon.

I went thru the WOCS, 1989, "High school to Flight School " I was a college graduate, from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University class of 1989. I had a commercial pilots license, and I was a CFI/II. I kept my mouth shut and did what was asked of me. I graduated a year later in the top 5 of my class of 150. We had so many senior NCO's in WOC B that could not adjust. I found them to be bitter out of shape and not really willing to learn what was required. My class had 10 NCOS from the intelligence community walk out on start day. So from that moment on in my 23 year career and ending as a CW4 and declining a CW5 promotion (I was assigned to Redstone Arsenal my Family asked me to retire, so I did), I never saw NCO'S in the same light. Not to beat on them but the Warrants get a bad reputation for PT avoidance and general lack of dripline, all not founded. My final PT test in the Army, I made it a point to excel and dispel these, BS notions. I did 100PU, 100SU, ran a 13:20 2 mile. My 06's jaw dropped. I was 45 at the time.

I graduated November 2022. Went TDY return. Then from Germany I cleared my unit and went TDY Enroute. I’ve PCS’d three times prior but this by far has been the most frustrating for my family and I. We didn’t request our exception to policy to have our BAH started for next duty station. Caused my family to decide to have them stay not at our next duty station but drive across the country to have them stay with family because we were getting our transition BAH rate (almost $500 less a month). Now we’re finishing my WOBC. Then once done we’re gonna move again back to our duty station during the summer season. This video is SPOT ON! Plan ahead accordingly.

CW5 (Ret) here. I went through as a 43 year old E7. The WOCS has changed several times through its life. However, to answer why different ranks go through WOCS are as follows.
    1. The E8s/E9s are usually from the hard charging services (Infantry, Armor, SF, Ranger, etc) that have been promoted quickly and have much TIG and maybe are being pushed out of the Army. So they go WO to stay in the Army. Also a WO may stay to a higher age.
    2. Similarly, there are traditional "O Grade" officers that are being boarded out of the service, unless they apply and are accepted into the WO program. If they have 10+ years as an "O Grade" they can retire at the higher grade (with higher pay). Usually the Army officers only go through the WOBC and not WOCS. That may have changed in recent years.
    3. There are officers (usually pilots) from other services that want to fly on the front lines in Army Helos. The idea is that if they make it through WOCS then they have "adapted" to the Army and can then go through Army Flight School.
During WWI and WWII the WO the Army needed special technical skills, thus Enlisted and even Civilians that had these skills were appointed to the WO grades, except for the young pilots. However, during the 80s/90s many Army units were short on Lieutenants and Captains. The unit commanders began using the WOs to do many of the duties and tasks that the junior "O Grades" would normally do. This was an awkward time. Consider a 25 year old CPT ordering a 50 year old technical WO to do Lieutenant duties. The commanders complained up the line. The Army accessed the situation and decided that WOCS should to be more of a leadership school like "O Grade" OCS, and that WOs should go through this new WOCS and no longer be appointed. WOCS has in recent years changed again to make the WOs to have a more "front line" readiness posture.

I would say WOCS is academically challenging. A lot of "pump & dump" during the academic blocks. Initially was challenging because your ability to be technically proficient is tested. You will need to memorize a lot of technical information on military systems that you likely have never heard of, knew existed, has nothing to do with your MOS, and will never see again in your life. As soon as you test out of a block, dump what you memorized and get ready for the next block because it starts right after the previous test.
During land nav, follow the roads and RUN/JOG between points. This will buy you time if you struggle finding a point. And do your best to find all 4 points, just in case 1 you find is wrong, you'll still pass with 3/4.
Ruck wasn't bad, my strategy was to power walk on the uphill portions and shuffle run on the downhill.

Not to worry, they’ll never stand in another formation again when they become twos and threes…fours and fives- the tower of power…they’re technically retired but still on the books, collecting both retirement, salary, BAH, OHA, sep pay, hazard duty and combat imminent danger pay all tax free while stateside

Just got selected for flight school as an e4 in the NG going to AD. Luckily I have no family to bring with me but damn. Saving up for a 2000 mile move is near impossible and just the fear of getting screwed by moving my stuff there is insane. fitness wise though I'm damn surprised I can do as much as I can given how broken my civilian job has made me but fuck. This is gonna be something

I went thru the basic WOC Course in 1988, needed about $500 just to pay for all the stupid "extra" items (a fishing tackle box to put inspection preparation items in, a mini-Ironing board, iron, bankers clips, 2" wide masking tape, brasso, yard signs, Magic sizing, double stick tape, wood spacer for brass placement and drawers placement, 3x5 cards, ruler, shower shoes, etc) and BDU/DRESS UNIFORM uniform cleanings. A good watch with an alarm, with it...I woke up 5-minutes prior to lights on, put on shower shoes (not sneakers, that would be cheating), used latrine, got a drink of water (TAC OFFICER STANDING IN DARK CORNER WATCHING ME - LOL)..then back to bed for a few seconds, then, Lights on, and morning madness begins!!! And, I'm all awake and freshened up - already!!!
The only laundry my class did in the WWII barracks @Ft. RUCKER, AL (torn down now) was socks, underwear, PT CLOTHES in the evenings.

Thanks for the run down. I'm a 12 year Air Force E5 looking at jumping into the CWO and hadn't really gotten the opportunity to work with a Chief beyond interaction with a 350F at my last unit. Have any advice for those jumping from the sister services? We don't have any Army materials here so I'll probably have to drive to Ft Bliss to get the gear if I get picked up!

"A WARRANT OFFICER CANDIDATE WILL NOT LIE, CHEAT, STEAL, OR TOLERATE ANYONE WHO DOES".
    That's the official school motto!
    Unofficially -
"A WARRANT OFFICER CANDIDATE WILL NOT TOLERATE ANYONE WHO LIES, CHEATS, STEALS, AND GETS CAUGHT"...
I can think of 4 ways to cheat, and not get caught...
The 4th one, Holiday break in training in WOC Flight School, 2-man rooms. My room mate, with wives off post, ladt day of Leave, and I went to our room, emptied everything out into the hallway, completely stripped the floor with razor blades down to bare tile. High quality Johnson's floor wax we bought x3 coats buffed, looked awesome! Dusted off all the furniture, put it back without scaratching the floor. Even shaved the chair leg's nasty floor slides to look new! No one else ever knew we did that!
Monday, back at class, a TAC OFFICER went thru every room, flipped the chsirs up, and gave everyone else with nasty sliders an hour of marching tour punishments (18 demerit points) except us. Did we brag - No. We joined everyone else doing the punishment marching, like we got the demerits too (but didn't) no one ever caught on!!! Time for final room inspection to graduate, ours was flawless!

My dad was in the army at 1970.. airborne.. then he went to intel and was a E-7 after just 5 years in the army... went to the warrant office school in ft huachuca.. He skipped W1 and went to CW2 right away.. His commanders needed him to get out of E-7 and go to CW2 because he was THAT good at his Job and in positions that needed the rank.. he went to CW3, and then retired but the offered him CW4 which at the time was the highest, now they have CW5.. sadly he passed away from liver cancer 5 years after he retired in 98.... Not many people i imagine can skip ranks like he was able
Things might have changed from back then to now based on what youre saying but my dad was excempt from ruck martching and crazy PT.. he broke his ankles from airborne and had pins and screws.. and couldnt run very well anymore. Just walking hurt him... He was Intel in important positions he even taught cryptology and other stuff in the military.. not some grunt work.
He mainly got out after 22 years because he could make more money civilian working at the army space program office, and tencap then in the army... he retired.. took a test at the University of new york and got his 4 year degree without even going to school, mainly because of military background he already knew it all.. it was a degree in science. and civilian work he became a computer scientist. I remember going to his work as a kid and they had vault doors 2 feet thick that would swing open and close where you entered.. lol... shame all that time and work he did and he dies at 45 from cancer, all because of that blood transfusion when he broke his ankles which gave him hep c... and of course the medical records were redacted.. This is why i hate the US gov, and the military.. They dont care, they can all kiss my ass

Is it unrealistic for an E4 to want to jump into warrant officer? My mos of 3 years isn't teaching me anything new and has done nothing but slowly destroy my body and lessen my interest in the army as a career. I have the motivation and knowledge to become a seargant, although as a 13B nco I will have no time for absolutely anything outside of work and this will more than likely effect my family. Which is currently happening right now to multiple of my leaders. I'm interested in furthering my knowledge and I could really use the challenge.
