Ten years ago I bought ruby red, I have not read it still. But watching this just motivated me, I found this podcast very late and I am catching up with all the episodes but what a coincidence to hear the name of that book just now. Greeting 👐🏻
It was fun hearing you guys talk about old faves! I remember hearing you talk about some of them back in the day. Pretty sure I read Ruby Red on Ariels recommendation all those years ago and I too remembered nothing except it was about time travel and I remember appreciating that they showed how she prepared for fitting into the different times.
Listening at 4am in the morning in Australia, love this podcast, I listen to each ep several times googling and buying/borrowing books as they are reviewed. Thinking about mashed potato May.
I wanted to recommend kenny's bookshop as an independent substitute for bookdepository! shipping to the us is quite expensive, but i believe everywhere else is 1€/book. they don't ship to every country but they do to lots and they have a selection of discounted books too ✌
Oh my god! Me and all of my friends were obssessed with the Ruby Red book series when we were like 11 (it was around 2014) and I havent found anyone since who knew about this book! Thank you for mentioning it!
Heyy love your podcast!! Have you thought about making the lower text (your names and podcast title) smaller and making your videos larger? I feel like I need to stare a lot to see you
Ohh I loved Kristen Gier when I was young❤ her books were very whimsical and kinda a lot but in the best way possible... This book game was so fun! Also rip book depository 😢
I’m so glad the movie of the cider house rules was brought, based on what was said, it may have made some creative choices with the adaptation but it is a great movie!
LOL Raeleen when you said "It's not a mashed potato life" I thought of two things. 1) That's the title of your memoir. "It's not a mashed potato life. Start living TODAY" by Raeleen. And 2) hearing it in the tune of "It's a hard-knock life" from Annie.
48:57 The irony of Ariel saying that one of the reasons clocks were invented was because us Brits needed our Trains to run on time and the fact that British trains actually do not run on time!😂😂
i’m glad i’m not the only one who dnf’d saving time by jenny odell haha. i couldn’t get past the introduction cause it was putting me to sleep! sad cause i really liked how to do nothing.

finally started listening to the podcast and it’s become one of the highlights of my weekend!! 🤗
My Mashed Potato May TBR:
Albatross -Terry Falls
Shadow and Bone - Leigh Bardugo
Swing Time - Zadie Smith
Claire Tomalin wrote the best bio of Jane Austen, so I’d bet that her Dickens bio will be just as wonderful

I love Erik’s videos. He’s truly one of the only booktubers I watch who actually matches my reading taste and whose hauls I actually shop.

Blackwells were bought by the same company that own waterstones and barnes and noble so defo not independent :(
I listened to that Dickens biography on audio and I loved it! Highly recommended
I have only read a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and I would recommend it. It is also super short!

Literally had a menty B about Book Depository closing and ordered 14 books 🙃
That Charles Dickens mug is something I didn't know I needed 🤩
