I watched "Black Holes" and "Breathe" with a friend. He suffered from addiction, I suffered from panic attacks and Thanatophobia (extreme fear of your own death). Both songs hit us Hard but he broke during "Black Holes" and I broke during "Breathe". We knew nothing about the songs in advance but he said "Black Holes" was the best song ever about addiction; I said "Breathe" is Exactly what it is to suffer from Thanatophobia as I literally had recurrent night terrors of drowning, felt I was being dragged to the bottom, couldn't Breathe, would wake in a cold sweat still holding my breath and had to force myself to breathe. Horrible. Therapy help enormously. I only learned later Pau has a constant fear of death (Thanatophobia). Pau spoke of it, Ale has too, and how Pau regularly has these attacks after concerts. Ale constantly watches her sisters to make sure they're okay. Watch the credits at Teatro Metropólitan 2022; Pau who seemed so happy during the concert starts to break down when it ends; no one notices but Ale who has been watching Pau the entire time. Everyone is basking in the post-concert euphoria but Ale is laser focused on Pau, comes over to Pau, and comforts/ cradles Pau like she's a child. Pau is so small and hunched over and Ale so tall and strong by comparison she looks like a mother comforting a child; Ale was only 17 at the time. These are amazing songs by Pau, a great songwriter, performer, and human being, but watching the Teatro Metropólitan credits made me realize how incredibly special Ale is too. Ale may seem very introverted; but she's always aware of everything. Ale has perfect timing and pitch and it is Ale who constantly holds the band together musically by making sure her sisters are always together, on pitch and timing, and in unison, but Ale's also perfectly tuned into her sisters emotionally and there for them. These are 3 very special women; very different people but all remarkable.
Thank you so much for sharing all of that. I can relate to this. Especially with the fear of death. It's so comforting to hear I'm not the only one who thinks the way I do.
I agree with your friend. I’ve been in recovery for 30 years and Black Holes is the most haunting (and accurate) song about addiction I’ve ever heard. Destroys me every time. Agree about Ale too. She has real "mama bear" energy, holding everything down so Dany and Pau can fly.
One thing that needs to be made clear is how proud Dany is of Paulina. During a Concert with just Dany & Pau of Black Holes you can see with the look on Dany's face, it shows how very proud and how much she loves Pau. The same with the love that Ali shows comforting Pau at the end of the Teatro concert when Pau break's down at the end. Ali is right there to comfort Pau. The amount of love they have for each other is just another integral reason why we love these three beautiful ladies So, So Much!!! Inside and out.
I never thought I would ever be able to hear Breathe performed live. Such a beautiful performance along with Black Holes. Another Epic song from the Pepsi Center. "When I'm Alone" Beautiful Performance from Dany. Just her with an acoustical guitar. Very beautiful Too.
Pau's voice is so special. Listening to Black Holes and Breathe, you wouldn't picture her as the heartbeat of a hard rock group. These songs carry such an emotional punch and Pau's emotional gratitude for the fans singing along with her can't help but warm the coldest of hearts. Pau could front any number of bands and the clarity that she and Dany sing with is stunning.
I lost my wife to depression and alcoholism. Black Holes helped me through that. Then my own depression in Breathe. I cry every single time. It's still an amazing cathartic experience from someone i know has never had to deal with that level of loss. Pau sings to my heart, and helps me every day to get through. I've heard these songs a hundred times, and I'm crying, but now it's in a good way. ❤️⚡😭
Dave, thank you for sharing that. I'm so sorry for your loss. Once again, this is a beautiful example of how music gets us through our darkest moments. HUGS. 💜💜
Thank you. While there is a lot of speculation about Breathe, as Pau says, the song is personal ... and private. So, I just cry with her and don't worry about things that are not for me to know.
Here's what Pau has said about Black Holes at a storytelling concert at Agua Fria in 2018 (translated from Spanish) "This next song… people often ask me what it’s about. I used to avoid explaining it because everyone has their own interpretation. Sometimes, people tell me it’s a love song or something like that, and it’s super interesting to hear those interpretations. I love hearing how people connect with the song depending on what they’re going through. But, well, this song is actually about someone struggling with addiction and all the things they're dealing with. This is Black Holes."
Amazing that she had the talent and empathy to write such a moving song about the despair of addiction or alcoholism (Black Holes) at the age of 13. Breathe is reportedly based on her experience with panic attacks (though I don’t know that she has ever publicly explained the meaning). 😎👍
For anyone who has witnessed a loved one surrender to the black hole of addiction, Black Holes is brutal and beautiful at the same time. Genius writing and performance. Breathe hits you hard no matter how many times you see Pau do it. There are none like her.
Very nice reaction... Thank you so much for reacting to these amazing songs. Please react to "When I'm Alone" it's just Dany and her Acoustic Guitar another incredible song. She wrote at age 15. While away from some Family and Friends at Berkeley College of music.
It has been mentioned in other comments from other reactors: Their record label wanted one more song to be added to their album "ERROR" and asked Pau for her song (Breathe) she agreed with the stipulation that she will not be forced to sing this song live, it was added to their album "ERROR" as a bonus track. I believe at their concert at Teatro Metro a recording of Breathe was played during a break. Now at Pepsi Center with 8,000 in attendance Pau felt compelled to sing Breathe live as a gesture of gratitude for the love and support of the fans. Don't think she''ll do it again based on her reaction!
I've been waiting for you to do these two songs. Thank you. I cry every single time I watch. Now, react to Dany's solo version of When I'm Alone from the same show. You will not be sorry.
I think that for Black Holes, Pau is accompanied by 6 violins, 2 violas and 2 cellos. For me Black Holes is about addiction, the key lyric for me being "All alone in an alleyway, Staring at my face, In the reflections of broken bottles".
Dear MommaOG, thanks for your truely emotional and sincere reaction to these two very touching Songs. Another Absolutely Beautiful song is 'When I'm Alone ' Dany with her Fender Acoustasonic Guitar. Also very Touching. I just love when they play these kinds of songs.
Breathe got me through some tough times with the studio cut. The lyrics are so well done but this full expression with Pau live and that amazing crowd it’s legacy music for generations. Dany’s When I’m alone at this concert is just as good . The Warning are a one of kind trio. Thank you mommaOG for a great reaction .
Black Holes breaks you and Breathe crushes what's left an amazing back to back performance. When 8000 fans finish the song for her out of love well it's an incredible moment maybe the most emotional in a show I've ever seen. Great reaction thank you the fact she was sick makes it even more special. 🔥⚡
Black Holes is a song about addiction written when she was 13. The meaning of Breathe was never publicly revealed, a popular theory is it is about a friend that passed away, but there is no confirmation of that.
In Black Holes Pau was shocked how loud the audience was singing back she started telling herself silently out loud no llores, no llores, no llores (don't cry x3) snapping out of it with that huge smile there. Great reaction as always. In Breath as you mentioned the fans finished the part of the song ending after seeing her struggle. The song's about a loss of a friend thus her mentioning Breath being a personal song.
Paulina has said that "Breathe" is a panic attack set to music and that describes it perfectly. It really effects her emotionally. Maybe she has panic attacks.
LOVE IT WHEN PAU SMILES. Love the way Dany watches her when she sings Black Holes. There's a video of them doing an acoustic concert from the UK. The girls were sick
breathe was not planned, the setlist had black holes, then enter sandman, however after black holes the stage hands did not take the piano away. OMG SHE IS PLAYING BREATHE. we were shocked
From what I read in other video's comments, the setlist reported BLACK HOLES / B, so I think it was planned for Pau to choose if doing Breathe or not depending from her voice status. Also someone reported that on the sound check with closed doors they seemed to hear Breathe played as a try
Other people have tried to come up with various metaphors for the roles DPA play in the band - organs, mind/spirit, etc. The best one I’ve ever come up with is a ship: Dany plays two roles, at opposite ends: the rudder at the stern and the figurehead at the prow. Ale is the keel, the weight that holds them steady. And Pau is without a doubt the engine, the powerhouse (heh) that drives them forward. If you ever doubt her power, just watch this and remember that she can seize that entire crowd of 8000 and own them with just a few chords.
I have heard these two songs numerous times. Every time I watch this Breathe video I always say to myself, ¨ok, I know what happens, I´m not gonna cry this this time.¨ But Pau gets me every time because I can feel her emotion in that moment, it´s unavoidable. What´s cool is that after Breathe they came out and did their version of Enter Sandman (Epic BTW) and Pau went back to being the nuclear bomb she normally is behind her drum kit!
In Breath there are probably three ways here. One is the depression story you described. The second way and I don't have confirmation for that, but it is said again and again that the song hits Paulina so hard because she wrote it for a deceased friend. This friend is said to have drowned. I think the thing with the deceased friend could be true. I don't think he drowned. I think someone invented it because the lyrics of the song reflect exactly that and I think someone made it very easy for themselves to spread a rumor. Paulina is, I think, very poetic here and describes her feeling in grief or she imagined how her friend felt under depression before he left this world. Or it's just a feeling. I go with the third option. We all know, and this is confirmed through Pau, that Paulina is terrified of her own death and she wonders what will be left of her in memory when she is gone. Whether people see after their death or experience in some way what becomes of their legacy. In Breath, she describes this fear that nothing will remain of her and that she will be forgotten. Disappearance without a trace, she says in it.
The death of a friend could be right. In this clip Dany mourns the death of a friend with a song. Don't know the time frames of when Pau wrote "Breathe". The clip with Dany is from 2023 and she says that she lost the friend in 2021. I think Pau wrote "Breathe" a few years earlier, but am not sure. ua-cam.com/video/8RNTS9wAU8s/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TimberWolf762
The "Dead Friend" is a fan-fiction myth. It's pretty obvious Pau is writing about the feelings of depression and anxiety that accompanies people who suffer from panic attacks. Pau has stated it's a panic attack set to music. Please refrain from spreading this falsehood about a dead friend. Also, I should mention that even the dead friend myth takes on different versions (as any falsehood usually does) with one being its about a friend who "un-alived" themselves, or a friend who drowned, or a friend who died of cancer, or a friend who died in a car crash. Its getting ridiculous and distracts people from hearing the message Pau is trying to convey.
@@timpadgett7840 I think I've made it pretty clear that these are rumors and I've made it clear that option 3 is the one I'm going with, which logically includes your view.
@@TomTomson81 unfortunately, lots of commenters will read this rumour, and repeat and spread it as a fact. And while you think you have made your intentions clear, and I don't doubt them, you did start with the (what longtime fans know to be) fan-fiction.
For the Error album, the studio requested another song. Pau had written Breathe and agreed to have it on the album if she never had to play it live. That was written into the album contract. The recorded version was not done in a studio, but with Pau playing their slightly out of tune home piano. During the album debut concert (Teatro Metropolitan CDMX 2022 ua-cam.com/video/FGzD4PkhARk/v-deo.html), they played the album track with no one on stage. Gave me the chills. This may be the only live performance of Breathe.
Think in terms of a life that spiraled out of control due to substance abuse. She is telling her loved ones to give up on her. She does not want to hurt them anymore.
Paulina "The Powerful" (Pau-ER)... These two songs cut me every time... I absolutely Love The Warning, but Paulina has my soul... Nuff Said !!! ⚡Viva Paulina⚡ NWSU/FloorFan/Epican/Ayreonaut/TWA/PauFan 🤘😎🤘.
PAULINA PAULINA PAULINA... how does it feel to hear 8000 people chant your name? Ask Pau, she is one of the few who knows. She deserved each and every "PAULINA" she got that night. Nice t-shirt, The Last Guardian is a beautiful game.
It is amazing that these three badass rockstars, while still young, have over 50 original songs with not a bad one in the bunch. Black holes is from their first album and still the most hard hitting song about addiction I know. Breathe just breaks me... XXI Century Blood is still a prime example about the negatives of social media. Sharks is about how predatory the business can be, except when you spot a little one in the crowd! ua-cam.com/users/shortsT0ylftWWdmg
"Breathe" seems to be about what happened to people during Covid. I know quite a few who died during it, I watched one of them die through a window. Her description of "I beg myself to breathe But there's nothing within reach now" and "I try to reach over the endless waves Can't call for help, so I'll just call my name" is exactly what my friends went through. "Disappear without a trace" is what happened to many who died alone, some people died not even being known or identified. They just died. I could be wrong, but it seems we we all knew someone who died, and I would bet Pau did as well. Or she simply had deep empathy to what was happening to millions at that time.
Hola amiga. The Warning nos une.
For those who think the friend passing away is fan fiction. Please go look up the video titled Will you cry with Dany. In a Instagram midnight show Dany dedicates a song to a friend that had passed the year before. The same year Pau wrote breath. This is the only time Dany has ever talked about this. I believe its about a shared friend. Pau was having panic attacks . But imagine dealing with that tragedy and still having to tour and promote a new album. I think Pau never mentions the friend for the same reason she said she would never play this live. Its still to painful. Love you PAu. Thank you for trusting us with this.
I have watched that same video that you are talking about, and I wondered the same thing. Daniela is a beautiful Soul as well. Just watch any of her midnight concerts. They show a completely different side to Dany's amazing Vocals. All Three ladies are a blessing for us.
Best I could find out, Breathe was written after a school friend died tragically, about when Pau was 8th grade. Maybe self deleted by drowning? "Is it so wrong wrong to want to feel alright?" "The water's reaching down my throat". "Something is pulling me down". When the 3rd album was finished and was one song short her team talked her in to putting this song on the album. She refused to re-record it. Still too painful. Her original recording on the home piano was used. Just her and the famously always slightly out of tune piano. It's truly a special song from a great composer.
Momma .. great reaction .. but ... could you consider moving yourself and making the video bigger . You may be able to read the lyrics , but i cant . Thanks for the reaction
Oh don't be so dramatic. I didn't pause it every 5 seconds. 😅Either way, you don't have to watch my videos if you don't like that I pause and express my thoughts when they come to me. 👍🏻
MommaOG your fantastic reactions is why you're one of my favorite reactors. Please don't worry about silly comments. I absolutely love your Reactions. The Warning has shown us how amazingly great songwriters & Performers they really are!!!

This may be the only live performance of Breathe.
such a powerful dbl performance! ♥
Yes, it is contagious but it is beautiful.
Present.
She's another things, out of scale talent and appeal, a gigantic sensibility... she's an ANGEL! PAU forever in my heart!
and she is the drummer
I'm sending everyone they're own personal "Whambulance"🥰 🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🌎✌️(world peace)
Beautiful reaction. ❤
💙💙💙
Great reaction MommaOG, you get it.
The WARNING 😀 ...... Black Holes...😮......😢......Breathe......😞.....😥😥.......😭😭😭😭
PAU ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
She was sick with the flu.
⚡Viva Paulina⚡
NWSU/FloorFan/Epican/Ayreonaut/TWA/PauFan 🤘😎🤘.
These songs are very sad but both are beauty
PAULINA PAULINA PAULINA... how does it feel to hear 8000 people chant your name? Ask Pau, she is one of the few who knows. She deserved each and every "PAULINA" she got that night. Nice t-shirt, The Last Guardian is a beautiful game.
For me Breathe is about feeling guilty for not morning a loss forever and allowing yourself to move on.

Pau read an article on addiction what they go through and wrote this about it
🤘
Pau had a mild head cold that night which was affecting her voice. Her voice is actually better than what you hear here.
Hola amiga.
The Warning nos une.
Muchas gracias por la información. Espero que estés bien.

Pau is Wonderful !!! I love her forever. ..I'm sorry I think I got dust in my eyes...🥺🥺😢😢
I'm not crying! You're crying! 😅
What happened there? Pau just got floored by 8,000 people singing her song back at her 💙💙
Pau Pau Pau!
Its about addiction.
♥ Pau

No that 5 minutes didn't go by really fast. You paused it every 5 seconds.
Oh don't be so dramatic. I didn't pause it every 5 seconds. 😅Either way, you don't have to watch my videos if you don't like that I pause and express my thoughts when they come to me. 👍🏻
@@TheRealMommaOG Its was all part your wonderful reaction experience. Marlew6629 can go and listen to it reaction free and stop being so annoying.
@@TheRealMommaOGThat's not being dramatic.Just a fact. And what thoughts? You call those thoughts? LOL
MommaOG your fantastic reactions is why you're one of my favorite reactors. Please don't worry about silly comments. I absolutely love your Reactions. The Warning has shown us how amazingly great songwriters & Performers they really are!!!
@@RDG4005 Fantastic reactions? LOL.
Breathe is a very short song, and you butchered it with all your needless pausing.
Then you should go watch the actual video. There's no pausing in that. The link is in the description.
If I don't pause when I miss something or something I hear makes me feel something, there's no point in doing this.
