    Genbu being a province of Torna like Gormott is to Mor Ardain 500 years later could also make sense. Tantal has architecture that is clearly ancient in the main game so it could be from the same time, and when Pyra and Mythra see the Ether Accelerator, Mythra says it is one from Old Torna.

      @yum2735 6 років тому +14

      The script is actually EXTREMELY easy to decipher because we know the original Latin names of the titans in Japanese.
      All of the names are Latin transcribed to Japanese Kana transcribed to Romaji transcribed to the alphabet of Alrest, e.g.
      Tantal is called Luxuria in the Japanese version: Luxuria => ルクスリア => RUKUSURIA => "Rpapaprmr".

      @@iamsuperiortoall.3888 Interesting, indeed. The Japanese Romaji alphabet only has 19 letters. If the same is true for the Alsterian alphabet, we can infer the identity of eleven of those letters just from the names of the titans alone. It shouldn't be that hard to also decipher the remaining letters despite the shortage of text samples.

      @@yum2735 Ah. Real interesting seeing how these language translations work. I'm currently studying 日本ご and have learned all 日らがな and have studied a little かんじ but I thought they used our whole alphabet for roomaji. Apparently not.

    • @yum2735
      @yum2735 6 років тому

      @@iamsuperiortoall.3888 No, they don't use the whole alphabet, e.g. x is never used. But it also depends on the standard. Foreigners typically learn Hepburn romanization because it's based more on pronunciation (は="ha", ふ="fu") rather than the particularities of the Japanese writing system. The Japanese themselves typically use standards that favor the latter (は="ha", ふ="hu"). The Alrestian system seems to be based on some non-standard mixture of Hepburn and the other systems because し is "si" (Nihon-shiki) instead of "shi" (Hepburn), but じゅ is "ju" (Hepburn) instead of "zyu" (Nihon-shiki).

    5:10 That's not Temperantia but Coeia, because the script reads as "Sia".
    The script is actually easy to decipher because it's just the original Latin names transcribed to Japanese Kana transcribed to Romaji (not Hepburn) and lastly transcribed to the script of Alrest. This is essentially a Rosetta stone for the script of Alrest and we might be able to use this to further decipher text from the game. (In case this hasn't been done yet.)
    We now have the following letters of the alphabet of Alrest:
    A, B, D, E, G, I, J, K, P, R, S, U
    And we are still missing the following letters from the Japanese alphabet:
    H, M, N, O, T, possibly W, possibly Y, possibly Z

    The one you identified as Temperantia is actually Coeia. The map must be a bit dated (understandable since Coeia had JUST fallen).
    The runes are actually pretty easy to read. They're just the Japanese names Romanized and with each letter equaling one rune. Torna for example is Ira, so we know what runes I, R, and A are represented by. The World Tree can be read as Sekaiju. You now have all the runes to read the three above the misidentified Titan:
    Sia.

    • @yum2735
      @yum2735 6 років тому +2

      Underrated comment. I tried to decipher the Sekaijuu one as well, but I didn't expect plain Japanese and ultimately failed, but you're probably right. I'm still confused by Acedia though: Is it transcribed as "akuidia" or possibly "akeidia"? The e in Sekaijuu and in Acedia look nothing alike.

    • @hernobleness
      @hernobleness 6 років тому

      @@yum2735 I have literally been asking myself the Akedia question for the last hour XD I started trying to build a full alphabet guide and translate the maps (both this one and the one seen in Bana's room), and both map versions of Akedia have an extra letter.
      I'm only missing F, H, M, Q, X, and Z, and the third character doesn't match up to anything I've found so far. The closest is U, but even then, it barely matches up to the messy, artsy U's seen in the maps, and it doesn't match the clean U's seen on the wanted posters at all.

    • @yum2735
      @yum2735 6 років тому +4

      @@hernobleness Maybe Akuidia is just a transcription error. Because of the l/r merger and the "u"s I'm pretty sure the transcription is based on some kind of Japanese romanization. Therefore, it's to be expected that there would also be a f/h merger. X is confirmed to not exist because of the transcription of Luxuria (Rukusuria) and I think Q wouldn't exist as a distinct letter either. And a Z glyph could be merged with the D glyph, depending on the romanization standard. "Sia" instead of "Shia" confirms that it is not Hepburn romanization and "Sekaiju" instead of "Sekaizyu" confirms that it is not Nihon-shiki or Kunrei-shiki romanization, so it's actually non-standard, possibly based on keyboard input.
      By the way, I've also tried to create a table for the alphabet, but only based on this map so far. What you're doing is really interesting. Hopefully, Luxin takes notice.

    My theory for why Genbu is so big is that, at this time, it had a MUCH larger population with a tropical climate. Genbu has towers and towers of ancient architecture with enough space for massive amounts of people, and it wasn't until later that they started siphoning its ether. Plus, it must have been pretty important to be a site of the Aegis War.

    While I agree with your logic for what you called Spessia, I think Estam might be what you called Spessia and Spessia might be what you called Estam.
    My logic?
    Maybe the map is a map of "Where the Titans are at this time of year."
    This would explain how Addam's brother fled to Genbu, who was right nearby Torna, and also explain how Lora and Addam's Militia fled to Spessia in such short time.

    • @lemmyxpro
      @lemmyxpro 4 місяці тому

      The party went from Gormott to Spessia though, so it would've taken FOREVER to get to Spessia from Gormott, if the avian-looking titan north of Torna on the map was Spessia instead. And you could apply the same logic for Estham in a different way, too. If Estham was the titan to the west of Gormott on the map, then Mikhail most likely would've been sold to another titan, instead of Torna, as the 2 titans would be VERY far away.

  • @yum2735
    @yum2735 6 років тому +11

    I noticed something interesting: Genbu is called "Luxuria" in the map (Tantal's name in the Japanese version). Since this map is from before the Aegis War, this would mean that "Luxuria"/"Tantal" predates the name of the Kingdom of Luxuria/Tantal.
    So, it probably is just another name for Genbu.

    • @lemmyxpro
      @lemmyxpro 4 місяці тому

      OR, Tantal existed as a nation somewhat like how Gormott did in TTGC, and just like it, didn't really have a unified government or anything, and was just occupied by a ton of tribes, and other non-nation groups. Tantal was likely a name used when talking about all of those tribes and/or groups together, but if referring to the Titan itself, you'd obviously call it Genbu instead.

    I feel like they just showed Genbu on the map to show that the Titan was close enough for some of Tornans to have escaped to it.
    What I never got though was that there's this whole elaborate, huge ruin in Tantal that's explicitly stated to have been from the Aegis war. So clearly there was a civilization living there before the Tornans took over. What happened to them? Was everyone wiped out by Malos and the Titan left empty maybe?
    In any case, awesome video! I love this lore kind of stuff, and was hoping someone would explore Hugo's map in a bit of detail.

    • @lemmyxpro
      @lemmyxpro 4 місяці тому

      I doubt the attack on Tantal during the Aegis war was THAT devastating, especially because only a small part was affected in the war.
      As for what happened when the Tornans came, since the country was already known as Tantal/Luxuria, (which we can find out by translating the Alrestian alphabet) we can assume that the Tornans came and united Tantal under one banner, and turned into a kingdom, the Kingdom of Tantal, as before, it was likely just a bunch of tribes and/or other groups that collectively, were known as Tantal. (And then of course, the titan itself is named Genbu, which i'm going to assume was already known by the Tantalese, by this time.)
      Although, there is one problem with this explanation. And that is with the fact that the Kingdom of Tantal was cast under a complete lie of the Tantalese being descendants of Addam, and i don't think that this could've worked if there were still native Tantalese people on Genbu before the Tornans arrived... unless it was explicitly stated and made clear that those natives in particular were exempt from being descended from Addam, for the one obvious reason.

Also, i'm not sure if the position of what you're calling Uraya and Mor Ardain would make sense, considering that Temperantia is supposed to be in-between Mor Ardain & Uraya acting as a demilitarized zone in the main game, but there isn't much room in-between Mor Ardain & Uraya for Temperantia to fit in there, and even if there was, Temperantia would surely be visible, and likely also labeled.

      @@lemmyxpro I am glad you replied, but holy crap this was years ago, I had to go back and even figure out what exactly my thought process was, but I am caught back up to speed. Mor Ardain is located and marked on the map in the top right. I was assuming at the time at the large titan directly south of Mor Ardain is Uraya. I don't think it is Tantal because Tantal is suppose to be hidden. Temperatia might not be where it is in the main game because it is a dead titan, only just floating in the cloud sea. It could only be moving due to the wake of the other titans. I am thinking that Temperatia might be the titan that is label with what looks like AMR in the bottom left. I think the one directly south and the one to the right are Croatia and Estham. With the one to the right being Estham being more populated and more likely to have a trade network setup.

    • @lemmyxpro
      @lemmyxpro 4 місяці тому

      @@sethwest7655 Sorry about that, lol, but regardless, thank you for replying!
      Anyways, that's pretty clearly Genbu and not Uraya, as it looks like it, has text above it that translates to "Luxuria", (Tantal in Japanese) and also because Tantal wasn't forced to be deep under the cloud sea at this time. It only started abiding by that when Amalthus struck his deal with the Kingdom of Tantal, likely short after the ending of Torna.
      Next, the titan with the text "AMR" next to it is actually Coeia. This can be confirmed because, once again, the text "AMR" in the Alrestian alphabet translates to "Sia" which is Coeia in Japanese, although i do have to admit that from how the titan looks on this map, how Coeia looks, and how Temperantia looks, it's clear to see that the titan looks much more like Temperantia. Regardless though, this is still clearly Coeia.
      Onward, this is something i have to clarify, as i feel like i do far too often, but Temperantia is not a dead titan. Otherwise, it would've sunken to the bottom of the cloud sea, exactly like the Tornan titan, Coeia, AND Indol did, and it would have NOT kept orbiting the world tree as usual. After all, Temperantia is clearly stated to be in-between Mor Ardain & Uraya, and it even acts as a demilitarized zone between the two nations.

      @@sethwest7655 Also, the one directly south and right of what? The World Tree? If that's what you mean, then i can agree with you on Estham being the avian, draconian-like titan, but of course, because of what i already said, i obviously disagree with you on the titan south of the World Tree being Coeia. My only logical guess is that this titan is the Cliffs of Morytha, as it doesn't really look like any other titan we've ever seen, and as we know, the Cliffs of Morytha has rotted significantly by the time that we visit it in the main game of XC2.
      We don't know how long the Cliffs of Morytha have been rotting, or how the titan didn't just sink, (unless it's alive, which is kinda weirdly hinted at in Morág's line in the cutscene right after you get to the Cliffs of Morytha, but wouldn't really make sense since it's rotting, and clearly has been for a long time) but that doesn't really matter. (Although, judging by how this titan looks on Hugo's map, it may have already been rotting??? No, i HIGHLY doubt it, because it'd probably take forever to rot that much to get such a weird shape, and if it had begun rotting almost at all, it'd have likely been taken off of maps quite a long time ago, so i'm led to believe that if this titan IS the Cliffs of Morytha, that the titan had only been rotting for just a tiny bit less than 492 years, at most.)

    • @sethwest7655
      @sethwest7655 4 місяці тому

      @@lemmyxpro Sorry meant to say directly south and right of the world Tree. If Luxuria is Tantal then, then Uraya isn't on the map, as from there are only 3 titans that go under/into the cloud sea that we know of, Tantal, Uraya, and the main Letherian titan.
      What didn't occur to me until now is that Coeia and Temperantia may be the same thing, as the Sia titan looks like Temperantia, and may have lost its original name after the war / its death. But I am almost certain that Temperantia was the left over husk of the Judicium Empire's Titan, not Coeia, and (I am trusting my faulty memory here) I think even the game said it was a dead titan left over after the aegis war, but I would have to replay chapter 5 to verify that. Beside there is already precedent for dead titans not sinking with the Cliffs of Morytha, or it wouldn't even be there at the level it is at, and instead be far lower like the Torna titan seen later.
      The titan to the right of the world tree doesn't quite look like Uraya, also its placement doesn't work for the main game to have a titan between itself and Mor Ardain to act as a demilitarize zone. (Unless the dead titan drifted.) So that is why my guess was it Estham as there is nothing else available with the known knowledge we have.

    Guys you know what monolithsoft should do? Its a crazy idea and will probably never happen, but here goes
    They should release 3 more dlc packs; each one will add another nation sized explorable titan to the game. It won't have a main quest, but you will find unique NPCs and side quests on the new titans. The new titans are as follows:
    Speccia
    Coiea
    Estem
    And maybe even some more that have never been mentioned
