nice video. I have the non "smart" version of this brush as recommended by my dentist. They advised that I shouldn't "brush", bur rather hold the brush on the gumline for 5 seconds per tooth area. As the brush ihead is spinning, there is no need to move your hand in the conventional sense. Once I got my head around that, my teeth cleaning has improved.
I love the round head. I feel it hugs the tooth and cleans so much better than my Sonicare brush. My hygienist suggested it and I am thrilled with it. I have used a Sonicare brush for 18 years an I find this one so much better.
The iO3 is a lot more affordable but missing the fancy digital display and interface to the phone app. Still works the same overall is my guess at nearly 1/3 the cost.
I’ve had my io for over a year Because there is no manual or instructions included in the package, and I was too lazy to look it up online, I did not know about all the features of the toothbrush. This review provides so much more information than Oral B does
I just purchased. Mine does not display in English plus I saw Bluetooth pop in the menu but cannot sync with my devices or find the Bluetooth setting Tried to update but unsuccessful. Overall happy
batteries have short run time (~5 brushings) and die after a year of double daily use, but for $7 ebay and 5m, easy to replace Sanyo UR14500AC 740mAh, just use a pipe wrench or vice grip to lightly grasp the bottom cap, twist (standard thread) and use pick tool etc to remove snap ring top (it's really on there), and then battery simply drops into the holder.
Love the Oral B for the oscillation...my teeth feel alot cleaner. It’s definitely a game changer. But there’s Also cheaper brands that are great options (fairywill / burst). Definitely better than manual.
Thanks for video! It looks like your possibly still brushing your teeth rather than maybe letting the brush do the work and you moving it to the spot you want. Just something I noticed and I do the same thing but with the io9 I'm getting a little better at it. It oscillates more than my old inexpensive electric toothbrush. Overall really like the io9 although the app doesn't seem perfect sometimes I'm doing a section of teeth and the app is confused what teeth I'm brushing. Probably me doing something not quite right. Like the pressure feature. I used to brush far too hard and long. Its an expensive toothbrush but I just needed a little help so I spent extra. No regrets it cleans good and its helping me.
I love mine, I bought it a couple of days ago. The only thing is I used the whiten mode, after brushing it tells me to clean my tounge, but I don’t understand, am I supposed to use the toothbrush for that? Because it mentions tounge cleaning mode, but how do I select it? Well I sent an email to the company, it’s not very clear
I have owned several oral B electric toothbrushes and this is by far is the best. I really like the round brush head no need to scrub just glide the brush and the round heads do a great job of cupping each tooth, not a fan of the app don’t need to add anymore time to my oral routine. Price is expensive I bought the series 9 if I could go back I think I would buy the series 7 and save a 100$. Great review video. You forgot to mention it only takes 3 hours to fully charge, you should try to use the gentle clean brush heads before you give up on the io.
Hey Steve!I also own IO series 9 and I'm very happy , great toothbrush as expected, silent and elegant. But how lon your battery lasts?I got 10 days only, after 2 long cleans(aroung 3 minutes) percentage drops every 10%, did you tested yours for battery life?
I wish there was an exact brush like this, but without the Bluetooth gimmick- *ahem* I mean “feature.” I looove the sleek and stylish look of this toothbrush, but I feel like the added Bluetooth technology makes it that much more expensive when I don’t see myself realistically using this feature beyond the initial excitement of getting my first electric toothbrush. I still kind of want this toothbrush so maybe I’ll wait for a really good sale. Are there any other models you’d recommend? (Great review btw)
Hi Erin, I have an Oral B; don't know the model number but can say that it is not very bright! (No prompts or reminders.) Plus=I like the round head and find it easy to reach the back teeth. Minus=the battery life and how long it takes to fully charge it.
They are really just different levels of intensity… I probably wouldn’t switch among them, but if you were trying to find the right level for you it might be different than what I would choose.
Nice review, thank you! Just bought this brush and have a problem with the brush head being too large - perhaps 50% larger than the previous model. This new design has a ring of longer brussels surrounding a shorter set. When you push on a flat surface, the outer layer spreads out. With the previous (smaller diameter brush), i could brush the surface of TEETH. The brush did NOT overlap onto the gums. How could a brush be designed to simultaneously clean both enamel and soft tissue? It can't. Guessing this new design will cause a lot of gum damage. Not from over brushing - but from poor mfr. design. This brush makes absolutely no sense. (previouly, i used the electric brush on my teeth and a soft manual brush to clean gums, etc.)
I find the vibration of sonicare irritating when the back of the head bumps against my other teeth, but I like that they are quiet. Is the IO best then since it is quieter than the regular model? Does the whole head vibrate intensely like sonicare or is it like softer like the standard oral b?
I bought this toothbrush. I use it for regular brushing. It is great! I also use a manual toothbrush after using the electric. This way I am sure I brushed properly. I can buy new brushes and different types on line or at a pharmacy near to me.
My hygienist recommended this one and it really cleans, so I don't agree with your review. I feel like I have just left the dentist every time I used it. I got mine on Amazon Prime Day for $68 us dollars.
I feel like you didn't give yourself enough time to get used to this brush. It takes a few weeks to get used to this brush, but once you do, you'll realize just how thoroughly it cleans your teeth. My teeth feel like I just came from a dental cleaning. As for the battery life, I'm a bit confused about why a toothbrush lasting 2 weeks is an issue. That's a long battery life, in my opinion. Maybe you're comparing it to some older model electric toothbrush, which isn't nearly as powerful.
@ErinLawrenceTV It took me almost a month to get used to how bulky the toothbrush felt in my mouth. It is a bit difficult to get the back molars, but I figured out how to maneuver it after a while. Now, after getting used to it, it's the best toothbrush I've owned. Of course, it's all just personal opinion.
I haven't gotten a new electric toothbrush in about 3 to 4 years! it still works but it soo dirty! debating on gettin this one! but I don't understand why they put that opening near the brush tooth paste and get in there and getting all yucky! lol
YESSSS! I mean I guess they have to have some thing there, but may be some type of silicone O-ring or some thing could help keep things tidier. I’m no engineer…
I have the regular Oral B. I got mine from Costco Canada about a year and a half ago, on sale for roughly $100 for two units. I only charge them about once a month.
Hmmm..... This review had made me think twice to perhaps go with the Philips Sonicare for the head although don't know how I'll like their ultrasonic tech as I've been a Otal B (older head) user for many years. I am a little cautious on their new larger head as it does look to be a little awkward to use. Think I'll go the Sonicare Diamomd Smart 9700 as currently I can pick one up for a steal ($270 AUD / Aussie Dollars) Anyway thanks for a honest review it'll certainly help in making the right decision for me.
@ErinLawrenceTV Yea, I suppose you're right. Maybe you can help me with a question. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but I have the Oral B io6 series, and it will not connect to the Oral B app when I try to begin brushing. It shows a timer but doesn't do anything. Are you familiar with this issue? I press power on the handle to connect via Bluetooth but it won't connect.
I got this toothbrush for half the price to test. And it kinda feels strange to use it. I’m actually using a non- electric nano toothbrush. And it feels like my tooth’s are cleaner with my nano toothbrush then the io. Not to mention the battery life but I have the io on the charger all the time. And the 3d thingy isn’t accurate. I wouldn’t buy this toothbrush again, and definitely not for the price. Go for the io8 or 7 it’s almost the same. I’ll still use this toothbrush until it died but I’ll also use my nano.
She is extremely dramatic with trying to get the brush in her mouth. It is much easier than she illustrates. I love the Oral B and been using one for years. Just got the IO 6 Series going from the 6 Pro and at this point like the Pro better but going to give it a chance.
Review was great, and toothbrush downside is as expected with me also. I wish you would’ve provided alternatives or comparisons to other electric toothbrushes
the toothbrush review queen is back!!! hahah...but in all seriousness the almost $300 toothbrush is cool and all but it is a tad expensive!...now once it can sync with Apple Health I'm in!!! lol
Greetings from sunny Florida! And thank you for posting this most informative video , Erin. You've just saved me near $300 USD on this toothbrush. Your review showed me all of what I needed to about this device. I too enjoy "mindlessly" brushing my teeth instead of making it a such a laborious and uncomfortable endeavor just to keep my teeth clean. Liked and subscribed. Keep 'em coming! Be safe and be well.

good to know, thanks!
The Oral b Genius X and oral other Oral b toothbrushes before the IO. Has round brush heads, instead of L Shape heads for the Oral B IO.

I know it’s 2 years later. But the series 3 doesn’t have Bluetooth.
How do you turn it off?
Hi! Have you ever tried Bruush? I’m curious what would be your fav electric toothbrush today?
I’ve not. Should I? My go-to brush is a Philips. The prestige I think.

I was just about ready to make the jump and you talked me out of it. Thanks for saving me the dough. You made some very good points.
I might sound really stupid but when would you use the other modes for your teeth ?
They are really just different levels of intensity… I probably wouldn’t switch among them, but if you were trying to find the right level for you it might be different than what I would choose.

Noted, thanks!
Great toothbrush. It’s something to put on the Black Friday list.

A really good thoughtful review. Thank you.
Why is the battery a problem. Put it on the charger every night easy lol but other then that great review
I have an oral b genius 6000 series and i love it
What brush do you use / recommend
Not sure if anyone else has this problem but its impossible for me to keep the pressure light green. It seems way to more force to put on my teeth..
my io9 only shows 90% battery life after 2 mins use ,is it normal?
Does the io 4 have the magnetic drive?
Is there any kind of subscription fee for making a account and using the app?
No. :)

Why is battery life so important when it stays on the charger after every brush and is essentially always full?
For folks who travel. Or who don't want the charger cluttering up the counter, I suppose.

This sounds like one of those segments on news channels
It’s the color screen and Bluetooth that drains batter
I see!
From what I understand, you can turn the Bluetooth off/disable. Not sure if you do that through the app or the brush itself.
Purchased this through my dentist but there’s no way I’m going to download an app for a toothbrush. Wow
😂 I hear that, my son did mine for me otherwise I would not either, he is more enthusiastic about brushing now as well at 13 so whatever works!!
