“Different.”
That’s how Stratton’s four-year head coach described 6-man football, the sport that defines much of small-town Colorado.
A variation on traditional, 11-man football, the sport rallies entire communities with half the players and makes fierce the names Stratton, Cheyenne Wells, Idalia and Otis, places “most people couldn’t find [if you] gave them a road map and circled it,” according to the prolific Colorado 6-man sports writer and radio broadcaster, Kerry Sherman.
“Once you’ve watched a 6-man game, you can’t get it out of your mind. It gets in the blood,” said Sherman.
“It’s something that you have to experience to understand.”

I’ve heard “full contact track” before, but I haven’t heard “nascar on grass.” Love it.
Gotta appreciate this division. Scores are crazy!
Great video. I live in big city in CO and did not know much about 6 man. What a cool version of football and community event.
Community is one of the most important things in the United States.
This was so cool to see! What a great community and American culture at it's highest level. Well played to the athletes, coaches, and community for supporting the school and football program.
I played 6man in HS for a couple years, such a blast.
I did not play HS football, though played rugby in college. This is one of the best things I've watched in weeks. Well done!
My school got so small that they now have eight man? Football. They used to be combined with two other schools.
Pretty sad compared to when I was in school and it usually took a couple years to be able to get on Varsity besides special teams.
When I was in school in the 90s they were 8 man football and were a tough team!
Brother played 8-man football that stuff was intense and the crowd would go crazy , they went to state championship and it was raining and I was able to hold the chains, the game was unforgettable
Its a shame that 6-man/8-man football does not have a professional league. I play in the A7FL which is a 7-man no pads contact football league but our field dimensions is the full 100 yrds and the out of bounds lines are from the second hash marks to the sideline.
Friday Night Lights in Colorado!
We have 8 man football in Iowa, pretty fun to watch, lots of high scoring games
Bruh 26 players playing 6 man we’ve got 15 playing 11 man 😭
Well BRUH? You probably don’t win many games either, bet you couldn’t last with these guys…lBRUH…..DUH
Bruh. Do research before you talk. Classifications are based on school numbers in Colorado. Not the amount of kids out for the sport. Einstein.
I heard of 8 man football but never 6 man. Looks fun.
would love to watch a 6 man 🏈 game
There is a channel on You Tube six man films that primarily shows teams in Texas since that state has the most teams
Buddy Garrity of Colorado lol 2:50
was thinking the same thing haha
this is awesome- eagle valley fan
I wish there were six-man leagues for adults
I knew about 6 man but did not know they play on a 80 yard field.
Different and I love different
❤Such a great experience! Sure do miss small towns❤
I wonder if anyone has ever made the jump from 6 man to D1 scholarship or NFL? Just curious
There was a lineman from NDSU that did something similar. He’s a big ginger guy who now is in the league.
Not many. Any private school in suburban Denver would wreck these dudes. And probably the entire roster at Valor Christian is better than these kids.
I played middle school football with a guy that got a D2 scholarship and played there at Chowan University who now works at the same plant as my uncle who won 2 straight 8 man straight state championships, undefeated his junior year and freshman year on JV went undefeated.
@@jacksevert3099 Durango could beat any 6-man team probably
Jesse, my brother!
What did he say about the paint on the walls? XDXXDXD
I was a sprinter in track. Running 600 yards in two hours sounds easy to me even with equipment on.
I was the fastest guy on the team but played as a lineman. I had to run windsprints with the fast guys
If anyone beat me they didn't have to run anymore. No one did after my freshman year
You’re him
CU needs some of theseboys
😂
eggbäll < >
it's called handegg. Still an amazing sport though
Rugby is better……..
they couldn't field 11, so no way to field 15
@ 7s or 10s would work…..
@@v.l.9560 7's no doubt
@@v.l.9560 football would be a better sport if they all learned rugby 🏉
@@helmcat470 football fan here. What makes rugby better ?
As someone who grew up in Stratton, they’ve been in every state championship since 2017. In 2023, but they also beat the 8 man state champions. Power. House.
