I just got a new hamster yesterday and when I looked in her cage I couldn't find her, when I looked in her hide house she was just there motionless. But her eyes were open.... I think she might have died but I'm not sure. I will try to warm her up and see what happens. P.s it's winter currently

Hey if u guys are still there, I warmed mine up and give it a bit water. Then awhile later it started moving and it looked liked like it was wheezing or idk something like that I’m the motion. Then I saw it move and lay longer and with its eyes open with something ooozimg? I warmed it up so idk of hes trying to wake up or dying

My hamster died last night, she was a dwarf hamster called munchkin and lived with her sister crunchkin. Now crunchkin is on her own 😭😭😭😭😭

Daniel Duh it is actually still better to keep dwarf hamsters alone. although they are not solitary in the wild, in captivity they can (and usually will) fight much more often because there is a limited amount of space for them to get away from each other. i've experienced it when i kept 2 russian dwarfs together (before i knew that it wasn't a good idea) and they fought quite a bit. the youtuber victoria raechel has a good video talking about why you shouldn't keep dwarf hamsters together, i would recommend checking it out.

Both of our hamsters went into torpor... We revived our teddy bear hamster (hammy) in a couple minutes... We put the other one in a shoe box and left him because he looked like rigor mortis and very much colder than the other one :(
... So we decided to to try to bring him back just too see... No movement for 5 minutes... Then all of a sudden the rigor mortis went away and started to twitch his wiskers :)
Long story short they were back running on their wheels in a few days... Such a mircle

I got home from school and went to see charlie, my hamster, and I thought he was dead. I started crying and picked him up. his. ody was so limp and cold. I held him for awhile and thought he was dying. my dad looked online and read about hibernating. I have him on a heating pad right now and he's breathing better than before. I hope he comes back. I love him so so much
This once happened to my friend- she put her hamster in an open box, preparing for burial (she thought she was dead) and left the room. She came back to a perfectly alive hamster, scuttling around the box.
If you do decide to give your hamster scrambled eggs, be VERY careful! Hamsters tend to hide any food they don't eat, and if they hide away the scrambled egg for too long it can go bad and they will die if they eat it. Be careful with giving your hamster small amounts of scrambled egg at a time, and perhaps hold them as they eat it, to make sure they don't hide it away. I had a new hamster named Zoë, and decided to give her scrambled eggs, and she passed away a couple of days later. Just be careful when giving hamsters any food that's able to go bad.

Great advice! None of my hamsters has ever gone into Torpor but I needed to know just in case.
My hamster actually did this today, but she did go quite stiff, lifted her up and she stayed in the same position...so just to let people know, another way is to look at their whiskers as they do still breath just very lightly and infrequently, so watch them for a minute for movement as the hamster breaths ( make sure your breath isn't moving them though if you're very close😂)
i always play with my robo ham and his whiskers are so cute and they viberate all the time and it tickles when it smells me
My hamster when's into torpor 1 I thought she was dead and my dad was about to Barry her when he yelled she's awake he thought she had come back from the dead so he searched it up on the internet and found out what happened I was so happy nothing happened to my little hamster I love her s much and she's here climbing all over my iPad and pressing lots of letters 😉😉

Make sure you guys are careful when you use a heating pad. I had mine on low when my hamster was in torpor but my hamster ended up passing of shock due to the change of temperature.

I own ferrets. I'm becoming used to that feeling of panic when they enter dead sleep.
I had this happen to my hamster once, quite a while ago... I must have been something like 8 years old, and I found her not moving. So I sat there with her in my lap watching TV to warm her up. She was the bitiest hamster I had ever had before that point, and I remember being happy that I could touch her at that point. She was still bitey after she woke up but she was never quite so aggressive towards me again after that.
I just spent hours trying to revive my hamster and holding her. She was only a baby I think she had a stroke Idk though I tried to find out what to do as fast as I could but I was too late and I watched her die in my hands

Thank goodness, my hamster is pretty old and I expect her not to make it past spring, but I opened her cage and instantly thought she was dead but she was moving slightly and breathing rapidly, and she was limp but definitely not cold and stiff.

Update, she died in her sleep last night at least I was there with her through it, I did the skin to skin thing and told her I love her and it’s okay to go. I’m so thankful she waited until I got home so I could say goodbye

Thank you for helping me with this, when I found my hamster I instantly thought she was dead, but when I buried her I started getting second thoughts thinking that maybe she was in torpor and that I buried her and killed her, when I saw this video it finally made me confirm that she had officially passed, thank you.
My hamster had this once, he was all cold and not moving, and we thought he was dead. We were actually about to bury him, and then i saw his nose twitch. We quickly warmed him up with towels and the fireplace. What a horror story.
I just realized the same thing happened on this show called Jessie. Ravi's hamster was in torpor and he came to later on. 😂

I've never had this happen to a hamster before but thank you for the video. I've been trying to keep my hamster warm recently and have been concerned about how cold it is in my apartment. I try to keep the heat regulated, but when it gets cold I get concerned for my hamster too.
Also forgot to ask, if they go into torpor and you want to check they haven't passed, can you pick them up and cuddle them to warm them??

thought my hamster was hibernating turned out she had a infection but I wasn’t there (i was at school) it got worse and worse and I’ll never forgive my self for not being there I promised her from now on i will do anything… i just watched her suffer (but i cuddle with her) cause my cousins mom (a vet) said if she’s doesn’t die in the morning take her to west side (animal care). I knew she was going too die, everything good happens to me then something or one gets taken away i was coming home from school after they canceled two days off and i was going to Florida Friday just sucks I love her.

In the winter it's pretty cold...It's cold in the fall and spring too. But it's down right hot in summer. Also Colorado's weather goes through mood wings. One minute it's 80 degrees out and the next minute its raining.

My hamster wasn’t coming out of his burrow, he usually doesn’t come out often but he comes up to eat and look around. He hasn’t come out at all and my room can become very very cold during night so hopefully he is alright

Hello Erin, my hamster died last winter, she was a Syrian named daisy. I believe she went into hibernation/torpor and simply didn't wake from it, as when I found her she was cold and stiff. Do you think the same?
I think she probably just didn't wake up from it, if she was stiff, she was dead..

I lost two hamsters to this. one died last night and the other died two hours ago, I wish I knew all this information then it hurts so bad that I wouldn't save them. I knew only a bit of things about this and put some heat near them. I will miss them both so much they were my everything and they both were the most joyfull creatures you would ever ask for.💜 🙁

Is a tiny bit of cooking oil bad for hamsters? its typical to put that in a pan before you make scrambled eggs, so the eggs don't stick to the pan, but I want to make sure the little bit of oil would be safe to consume. Or maybe I should get one of those oil-free nonstick pans? lol
I wouldn't suggest using oil but water works just fine to make scrambled eggs :)

I´m glad(and sad) to know that my rodentroom are nice and warm. my winterwhithe hybrid got brighter last year but not this year beacuse I moved ande the new apartment are much warmer. that´s why Im sad beacuse it was fun to see the colour change :)

Hi! My hamster is a 2 year old male Syrian named Caramel. He was very sleepy for two days, ate but not a lot and drank as normal. My mum researched and we found it he is probably hibernating. This was two days ago. I watched this and he had all the symptoms. Before I left for school this morning, I fed him and gave him a little stroke. He was okay. When I came home, I picked him up and he was colder but he isn't stiff, and is breathing very very slightly. I have put him in a blanket with a hot water bottle, some of his bedding and a treat near his nose. I will do this all night. Is there any advice you can give me? He is quite old and has been less active for about a month. I think he will die and I am very sad but he has had a great life.
My hamster went into torpor 2 times last year. I had to buy an under the cage heat mat (she is in a 40 gallon tank) I also bought an in cage thermometer. I check it a lot to make sure the temp. isnt too low. If it is, I turn on my space heater for a little bit until it warms up. We moved just before winter and during that winter I found that my room is quite drafty. its hard to keep cool in the summer as well.

My twins Guinea Pig passed away on the 5th of December due to the cold. He got sick and passed away :(. Due to how cold our house does be I'm terrified of my two hamsters passing because I don't want to feel that heart aches and plus I don't want their lives to end. I live in Ireland and the same as the UK here can get freezing.

Oh my word. Thank you for this excellent video. I found my hamster, Oscar, in this state and I didn't have a clue what do to. I hadn't seen his cute little face appear for a full day. Worried, I took the roof off his little cottage and found him curled up into a ball. My first thoughts were "oh, my, God! He's dead!" Thankfully, I followed your advice and he's now been roused and is warming up. I had absolutely no idea he could go into this state. It's only just going into autumn. So, now I have moved his little 'bedroom' to another location, where it's closer to a heat source. Thanks again so much for your advice. 😊☺️🤗🐹
My hamsters name is finfee ! My house is warm and she wakes up when I come home she climbs up her cage and mostly falls down and maybe gets hurt but gets back up!!!! She like ur other hamsters too (I let her see ur hamsters)

I'm afraid now, and I feel guilty. My hamster Marbles passed at 2 months, but when I found her she could have been in torpor. I buried her because I thought she had passed. Now I don't know if she was actually gone or not, I didn't do these tests.

I'm heartbroke and done with having pet hamsters. My 1st hamster Pumpkin died a month ago from a heat stroke after my central air broke and it was over 100 degrees outside and after it was fix and my house was cool, I bought another hamster who I named Spice and now it's not moving, i went online and found out they can go into hibernation when it's too cold, I think my hamster is hibernating. Having a hamster is too complicated.

I remember asking for a friend to care for my pet during a trip. I remember it was a moment where it started raining a lot- it was hella cold. My friend randomly stopped giving me updates, and told me a few days later that it had died and they had buried it. After I learnt this, I frequently think about wether or not they buried a dead or a hibernating hamster. I did see my small baby on torpor before- but I had the reaction of warming him and just thought it was cardiovascular; so it makes sense that he'd go in torpor again. Fml.
My hamster,Cookie, went into Torpo April last year. I was worried sick because she normally get snout her cage and runs around...
My hamster is about 2 in a half and will be doing random things but suddenly stop moving and breathing very heavily...please help.

I found my hamster cold and stiff last in his cage, he’s all warm now and I’ll update if he’s still with us 🥺🤍

My hamster is in torpor or dead...we don't know. He looks like he's in torpor and I put a blanket over her, unburied her face, and left a whole for her nose
My hamster does this alot in the winter and always scares me so I but it next to a radiator for a half hour and hes good and happy again
Help! My hamster is cold but I am warming him up and he feels light and really lethargic.
my past hamster went into torpor then passed on. he had fleas then got cold. I believe his death was due to the fleas means the fact he never woke when we warmed him up, then he died.

😔 I wish I had watched this video earlier, but, it is definite my hamster has passed away, in the morning I was still in bed and it was around 10am, my mom came upstairs and she told me there is bad news, I laughed and asked her what, and she was really upset to tell me.. and I realised.. my hamster went to Heaven that early night and I cry so much about her. I love her so much but I realised I never gave her the life she would’ve wanted, I guess it was the right decision for my hamster and for me. I hope you are resting in peace Hazel. 💖😔💜💖💜💖
