The Maids never do anything half-assed. The amount of time and thought that goes into each song is baffling. Quality through and through, every time. You can really tell how much time they spent working on this song.
@@markyg236 Yep you've got to tailor what songs you recommend to which reactors to get the best response. All 3 of those reactors would've been perfect for this :)
Misa is their bass player, Saiki is the singer. Miku is the other vocalist and rhythm guitar. Kanami is the lead guitar. Akane on drums. Good recall. This is definitely one of their slower songs. Still good.
Some very nice comments that I can only agree with. Especially about Saiki's and Miku's voices and how well they fit together or complement each other. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 「 'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!' 」- from BAND-MAID 'Manners' 🕊️
Yeah Band Maid always surprises in the way they can take any genre and make it their own. No matter what they always make me smile if it's mellow (like this one) or crazy like "Black Hole", always pleasing to my ear.
Very precise and accurate reaction. I thought you might be a bit surprised by the style of this song. Probably the most jazz influenced song I've heard from them. I pretty much agree with all your opinions, especially the following. Vocals- This song showcases Saiki's vocal range. She easily maintains control from falsetto to the lower range and vibrato. I like your comment about her voice coming through the mix without being piercing. Never heard it put that way before. Definitely going to steal that line. Guitar solo seemed a little short- I've heard that Bandmaid solos are always there to service the song. Never to distract or take the song off on a tangent. And yet, I agree that in this case the song would have been better served with a longer solo. Misa- She can play any style, in any musical genre and do it better than anyone else on planet earth. Simply put, my all time favourite bassist. I suggest you listen to the recently released live version of Manners and Black Hole from Day of the Maids May 10th 2021. Misa drives both of these songs. The jazz intro to Manners featuring Misa and Akane is outstanding. Your score was fair. Thanks Dave. Cheers from Canada
Has anyone yet heard Miku come in off pitch. I've listened to a lot of live amateur video of them. She always nails it. Thing is, her backing vocal parts are not easy.
I'm glad to hear that you as a bass player recognize that MISA is capable of filling in for anyone playing bass in the jazz world. Yeah, I think she's been at that level for the past 3 or 4 years.
hahaha, when does Band Maid ever do what you expect??? This was a new level for the girls . Takes a few listens ti you realise the magic Kanami and Miku have worked out. Beautiful singing from Saiki. This a real grower as with each listen ,and you peel back the layers , so many gem moments from all of the girls, and a very sophisticated bed track created by Misa and Akane.
It took me a few times through this to catch all the stuff they were doing. A lot of subtle stuff on this one. Lots of chordal harmonies going on involving both voices and instruments. Miku does octave up on some parts, counter melody in other places, and also some low harmonizing stuff complimenting Saiki's lead vocal. The rhythm on this is deceptively difficult.
Nice review! Think the song is specifically intended to be a vocal showcase for Saiki why the guitar part was so restrained. This video was really popular when it first dropped over a year ago, so am really surprised the original video doesn't have at least 2-3 times the number of views by now, although if I'm honest I hadn't watched it myself in many, many months (while Band Maid is great, I personally prefer the heavier bands like Lovebites and Nemophila). Trust in your first instincts, each name you got right the first time and then you immediately started talking yourself out of it (it's a funny thing we all do a surprising amount of time). You actually did talk yourself out of the correct pronunciation on Saiki, you were right the first time when you said "sigh - key" :)
Thx for the shoutout and for another great Band-Maid reaction, David. Wonderland is a unique song for the group but the way they are able to meld multi genres in this jazzy mid-tempo is not. It's just what Band-Maid does.
I don't know what the rules are on this channel for double features, but we really need to get him to check out the "Manners/Black Hole" Official Live video. Magic.
I definitely agree about the Black Hole part. That version of Manners is a bit lacklustre I think. For me it’s a shame they’re both on the same video as I only ever want to listen to the Black Hole performance!
This song is an example of the diversity and unselfish character of Band-Maid. Specifically Kanami. She is the definition of selfless. I will take the bullet for Kanami. Peace.
BAND-MAID, worlds best Hard Rock band, international film stars & now David Heretic reacts to "Wonderland". That's stage 3 of World Domination complete then :)
@@GaryHolloway-810 I guess it's gonna be an intense fight scene between us for Kanami! Maybe we even get to do some wire rope stunts 😃 Just ordered the 'Sense' single w/ DVD. I wonder what bonus magnet I get from cdjapan ☺️
@@Jonas_S_ Hey that's great, i don't mean us fighting but i'm good with some crazy wire stunts. i've spent quite a bit ordering presents so my cash is limited. Hey you could break a limb & hope to have a metal plate put in, then you could walk around with your cool magnet on you all the time :)
That's a really interesting point about the falsetto, but I kinda feel that without some breathiness when doing it in a rock song (no matter how jazzy) it would sound either shrill or overly operatic. Then again that's probably why I can never really (so far) get into Nightwish who a lotta people LOVE, but that's mostly just personal taste.
I'd suggest next "DayDreaming". Showcases their vocals while still providing the great rocking Band Maid guitaring that you've grown to love and expect.
David, your channel is special. Enjoy hearing your take on the songwriting, musicianship and production. Oustanding ! Misa, yes ,it is the one and only Misa . All in black , Black Smoke Bass (usually) and barefoot !
This type of song is very difficult to pull off live; not only performance wise but particularly sonically. Getting the mix right, the relative volume levels correct is damn near impossible. Sure, this video has some post-production but they couldn’t have been far off live. The subtleties in the song are beautiful and this shows how Kanami is simply an absolute genius for her arrangements and lead guitar parts.
Totally agree with all you said.another song in the ballet sence with the additional acoustic guitar in the mix is Page definitely worth a look at some stage.
Great mid-tempo song from Band Maid! Saiki really gets to shine in this song, love her voice! Love how hard Kanami is working at the end of the song! Misa, Misa, Misa, Bad Ass Bass Assassin! The other "M" is Miku, rhythm guitar and backing vocals, also the bands lyricist. Akane on the drums, always on point!
Great review, thank you. I love this song’s inventive arrangement and vocal melody. Perhaps live it’s a bit too reliant on the backing track… and probably autotune given how tight the harmonies sound… generous of you not to mention it :)
So glad you chose a slower Band Maid track. Saiki's voice is more suited to a lower tone in my opinion so she did really well to hit those high notes. Kanami, often plays a short lead guitar solo, which you will discover as you look at more Band Maid tracks. You may of had this earlier song from Band Maid already requested? It is a music video to the song Real Existence: ua-cam.com/video/9TkHpvaO09c/v-deo.html I may of mentioned before, Band Maid used to be a four piece with Miku singing lead but they very quickly realised her voice was not strong enough for lead and so they auditioned for Saiki. I always think this is amazing as Miku formed Band Maid and for her not to have the ego to say no, I am lead singer and I will not give up that role.
I don't know if it's your cup of tea. I would like to see you reactin to online live of videos like "Manners/Black Hole" or "warning!" or "No God" or "Real Existence". You would enjoy more I think.
Kanami's always doing something interesting with her guitar, which you will realise if you isolate the guitar sound. Guitar is very low in the mix, so you can hear Misa and Akane loud and clear but unfortunately not Kanami. If you listen through a good headphone, it will give you another level experience. Cheers.
As far as everything I have heard Band-Maid is one of the few who doesn't block any of their reaction videos. Did they block one of yours? Just curious.
Well it's not Band-maid that does the blocking, it's their record company. I have had a couple of Band-maid videos blocked, but I disputed the blocks and they never responded so after 30 days the blocks were lifted. I'll never understand the mentality of blocking from record companies. Copyright claim,? Yes absolutely by all means, it's their material so if any money is made it should go to them. Blocking? I don't get it, they're literally stopping free exposure and free advertising.
